"Is your injury feeling any better?"

Wang Jian’s body stiffened. He had assud that when Li Liping embraced him, she would imdiately start getting handsy. To his surprise, she rely asked a simple question.

For the first ti ever, a strange feeling stirred in Wang Jian’s heart. After breaking free, he didn’t comnt on her feigning sleep and instead replied, "It’s much better. It was just a superficial wound, so it’s already healing. I figure it’ll be completely healed in a week."

Forming a scab within a week shouldn’t be a problem given his physique and resilience. It was quite normal for him.

"As long as it’s nothing serious, the clinic can probably reopen soon."

Hearing Wang Jian say this brought Li Liping a great deal of relief. So much had happened recently, and with guests staying at Wang Jian’s ho, she hadn’t gone to see him. That didn’t an she wasn’t concerned. She just didn’t want to give people reason to gossip.

Besides, Li Liping certainly hadn’t forgotten their last encounter. They had argued in the Wang family’s kitchen. She had finally realized that this Wang Jian truly didn’t understand a woman’s heart. As such, she no longer expected him to be so kind of Lord Xin.

Seeing Wang Jian pull away, Li Liping rolled her eyes at him. Acting as if nothing had happened, she said, "I actually wanted to visit you earlier, but I heard you have guests."

"The young lady from the Cai Family?"

Without waiting for a response, Li Liping smiled. "I caught a glimpse of her from a distance. With a figure and face like that, she looks just like a movie star on TV."

"Aren’t you tempted?" Li Liping teased, her hand touching his chest. "If I were a man, I’d be tempted too."

"Oh, there’s no need for that," Wang Jian quipped. "She might not even like n. You’d probably have a better shot if you pursued her now."

Li Liping froze, slowly pulling her hand back as she stared at Wang Jian in disbelief.

Although Li Liping wasn’t from the village, she had grown up in the countryside. Working out of town for a few years had exposed her to many new things. She had heard of relationships between n, but this was the first ti she’d encountered the idea of one between won so directly.

"Really?"

Seeing her intrigued expression, Wang Jian silently rolled his eyes. "Look at you. Does Zhang Li know you’re like this?"

"Pah!" Upon hearing Zhang Li’s na, Li Liping scoffed, her expression turning angry. "I don’t care if he knows or not."

Soti after she’d heard Wang Jian might be able to cure Zhang Li’s hidden ailnt, she had called him. But his attitude had left her utterly speechless, extinguishing any lingering affection she had for the man. She told him Wang Jian could cure his condition, but Zhang Li refused to believe her, acting as if he were possessed. He claid that Wang Jian was just making up excuses to avoid the task and urged Li Liping to be more proactive about getting pregnant before they returned.

The words had made her fight the urge to smash her phone to pieces. In the end, the phone was innocent. There was no need to waste the money.

After the anger passed, it was as if a switch had flipped within Li Liping. She felt completely liberated, adopting an attitude of reckless abandon. So, she wasn’t angry with Wang Jian anymore. Whatever happened, happened. A fleeting affair wasn’t out of the question.

"Don’t ntion him to ."

After Li Liping briefly explained the situation with Zhang Li, Wang Jian was dumbfounded. He had never imagined such an outco. Based on this, even when Zhang Li returned, he would surely continue to push the two of them together as long as she wasn’t pregnant.

What was this all about? Was this so kind of extre psychological distortion born from utter hopelessness?

Wang Jian fell silent, then decisively changed the subject. "Actually, I ca over today because sothing happened, and I was a little worried..."

"Worried about ?"

Hearing this, Li Liping’s eyes lit up. She eagerly snatched the conversational thread, pressing herself against Wang Jian as she moved closer. Her reaction was like an ember being fanned back into a roaring fla.

Wang Jian felt it too. For the first ti, he didn’t resist her advance. His gaze drifted unnaturally to the side as he touched his nose and nodded.

I’ll just think of this as comforting her, Wang Jian told himself.

"You brute."

It was unclear if Li Liping saw through him, but she was inexplicably happy that he seed to care. This ti, she hugged him head-on.

The stifling sumr heat, stirred by the electric fan, quickly baked their bodies. After only a few seconds, their sweat had soaked through two layers of clothing.

She isn’t wearing a bra.

Wang Jian could feel it with startling clarity. For so reason, the sight of her feigning sleep from earlier flashed through his mind, and his heart began to pound.

"You brute!"

Li Liping chided him again, but her voice was completely different this ti, tinged with a playful coyness. She could feel Wang Jian’s reaction—the first ti he had responded to her so clearly—and it was impossible for her not to have ideas.

But just as she decided to take the initiative, Wang Jian spoke up. "Hold on. I ca to do a health check. With the Gu Poison spreading, I don’t want anything to happen to you."

"Hahaha."

Li Liping released him, her laughter growing even brighter. "Since it’s a check-up, wouldn’t this be better?"

As soon as the words left her mouth, she spread her arms and rolled up her shirt, standing before him completely exposed from the waist up.

It was the first ti Wang Jian had ever seen her so directly. For a mont, he didn’t even know where to look. So lingering thread of reason kept his gaze drifting uncertainly. It wasn’t until he picked up a silver needle that he finally cald down. A physical examination didn’t actually require a silver needle, but holding one served as a stark reminder of his identity as a doctor.

Composed now, Wang Jian approached Li Liping and began to observe her carefully. He looked her over from head to toe and followed up with a careful tactile examination to be thorough.

Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief. He was almost certain that, at the very least, their village had not been affected. The troublemakers had really been targeting the Cai Family. Ordinary people like them could rest easy.

"What is it?" Li Liping, who was still feeling flustered, asked when she saw the change in his expression. "Is there a problem?"

"No." Wang Jian grinned, putting his needle pack away. He looked at Li Liping and said, "You’re very healthy. You can rest assured."

"Then..." Li Liping pouted. "Why don’t you check sothing else for ?"

As she spoke, she took hold of Wang Jian’s hand. "Help check... and see if I can have children."

Like dry tinder eting a fla, Wang Jian was ignited once more.

This ti, he didn’t reach for the silver needle. He knew he had no desire to be clear-headed at that mont.

By the ti Wang Jian thought of leaving, a great deal of ti had passed. The sunlight outside had dimd considerably. Through the window, he could hear the sounds of neighbors enjoying the cool evening air.

"Is it that late already?"

Wang Jian had originally planned to visit Ren Yu’s place as well. But a glance outside showed it was already late afternoon, the mountain peaks blocking most of the sun. If he delayed any longer, he worried Xu Qian might co looking for him. At that thought, Wang Jian couldn’t risk staying any longer. He pulled up his pants and said a hasty goodbye to Li Liping.

Watching his frantic departure, Li Liping trembled with laughter on the sofa, calling him a brute one more ti.

Only this ti, as she called him a brute for the third ti, her laughter was filled with genuine happiness.
