As soon as Wang Jian ntioned there was a problem, both Li Shuang and Cai Qiong looked over, waiting to hear what he had to say.

"Your pulse is simple overall, but there’s a slight fluctuation," Wang Jian began. "I initially thought it was just from you staying up late last night. However, after a more careful examination, I found that a parasite has been implanted in your shoulder."

He pointed to Li Shuang’s left shoulder.

Startled, Li Shuang imdiately pulled open the collar of his shirt. He twisted his body and neck to get a look, noticing so redness, but it was just so fingertip marks.

"It’s been itchy since last night," Li Shuang explained. "I just thought it was a mosquito bite."

As he spoke, Li Shuang subconsciously reached up to scratch it, but Wang Jian quickly stopped him. "Wait, don’t pick at it."

Wang Jian pointed to a spot further back on his shoulder where there was a tiny red dot.

"This is a needle mark," he said. "Didn’t you feel it? This must have been made by a fine needle."

The needle mark isn’t very conspicuous, looking just like an inflad follicle, but I can tell the difference.

Li Shuang was completely dumbfounded, having had no idea he’d been pricked by a needle. The location, however, did remind him of sothing. "I didn’t feel a thing, but... last night when Gao Yang grabbed Liu Zi and , he slapped my shoulder really hard. I was too nervous to pay it any mind and just thought it hurt because he hit with so much force."

After speaking, Li Shuang suddenly thought of the bizarre things that had happened to Zhao Chunyang. He was so frightened he blurted out, "Xiao Jian, I’m not going to end up like Uncle Zhao, am I?"

Just the thought of his own skin crawling with worms sent a shiver down Li Shuang’s spine.

"It won’t get to that point," Wang Jian said with a smile. "What Secretary Zhao had was cultivated for over a month. You’ve only had this for one night, so don’t worry. I’ll give you a prescription in a bit. Just go to a traditional Chinese pharmacy, get the herbs, and brew them into a decoction to drink."

Seeing that Li Shuang’s fear hadn’t subsided, Wang Jian added, "It’s just like taking dicine for parasites. There’s nothing to be afraid of."

Cai Qiong, who was standing nearby, heard everything. Right now, she couldn’t think about anything else. She just hoped that her family was all right.

"Really?" Li Shuang asked doubtfully. "You’re not just trying to comfort , are you?"

"How could I lie about this?" Wang Jian nodded earnestly. "Doctors don’t lie."

"Don’t be ridiculous," Li Shuang retorted. "Of course doctors have to lie sotis."

As soon as he said it, Wang Jian subconsciously wanted to argue. Even Cai Qiong opened her mouth to object, but neither of the two doctors could find the words for a rebuttal.

It was true. Sotis, you really did have to lie.

Wang Jian shrugged, tapped on his phone for a mont, and sent a prescription to Li Shuang.

Back when he was a doctor in Beijing, Wang Jian had even encountered one such case. It was a condition commonly known as hysteria. The situation was similar to when Zhao Chunyang had first sought treatnt. When Wang Jian took on the patient, her symptoms were severe. But after a full round of diagnostics and instruntal checks, they found absolutely nothing wrong. And yet, the rash and allergic symptoms on the patient’s skin were glaringly obvious. In the end, Wang Jian had to call his ntor, and only then did he learn about the possibility of hysteria. He prescribed a few vitamin tablets, accompanied by a benevolent lie, and it worked almost imdiately. The patient and her family were eternally grateful, while Wang Jian just wore the expression of a man who had seen it all. Thinking back on it now, many illnesses were actually rooted in psychological problems. A healthy person could beco sick because of them, and a sick person’s condition could worsen. In such situations, even doctors were often helpless. He found himself wondering what exactly Gu Worms were and why even modern instrunts were useless against them. And if Gu Poison existed, did that an other things, like sorcery, might exist too? It was just like how Wang Jian had never believed in the concept of Qi until he t his ntor and witnessed its power firsthand. He was now beginning to wonder if many things in this world that were thought to be nonexistent might actually be real.

When he snapped back to reality, he realized Li Shuang was gone.

"Stop looking, he went to get his dicine," Cai Qiong teased. "I just made a call. Gao Yang has already released Liu Zi, so he’ll probably call Li Shuang. He’ll likely head out for good after picking up his prescription. I saw you were spacing out and called to you twice with no response, so I just told him not to stand on ceremony."

Wang Jian nodded and glanced at his phone. Sure enough, there was a ssage from Li Shuang saying he had left. In the ssage, Li Shuang also profusely thanked him for his help with Liu Zi. If it hadn’t been for Cai Qiong’s call, there was no way Gao Yang would have let him go so easily.

However, the matter wasn’t over. Since neither side had completely broken ties yet, they would have to continue this tug-of-war for a while longer.

Seeing that their business here was concluded, Cai Qiong said, "Let’s go. Co ho with . My dad and brother are on their way ho now."

"Alright."

It was impossible to rest easy until this whole Gu business was sorted out. That wasn’t just for the Cai Family, but for Wang Jian himself.

Cai Qiong smiled. "This must be your first ti visiting our ho, right?"

"That’s right." Wang Jian rubbed his nose. "Perfect timing."

Cai Qiong had driven, so the two of them headed straight to the Cai family ho in her car. Before they got in, Cai Qiong tossed the keys to Wang Jian, wanting him to drive.

After all, for so n, being the one to drive is a matter of pride.

But Wang Jian tossed the keys right back. "I can’t drive."

"Oh?" Cai Qiong paused, startled, then broke into a laugh. "Well, that’s a novelty. I can’t believe you don’t know how to drive."

Wang Jian spread his hands and walked straight to the passenger seat. He didn’t feel the slightest bit embarrassed; in fact, he felt quite comfortable. "When would I have had ti to learn? In college, I was either studying, interning, or following my ntor around learning dical Skills. I simply had no ti to learn how to drive. Besides, I have no desire to learn now, either."

At this, Wang Jian gave Cai Qiong a deliberate look. "You see, if I knew how to drive, I wouldn’t get to enjoy the pleasure of having a beautiful woman as my chauffeur, would I?"

Cai Qiong was in the driver’s seat, her gorgeous legs particularly dazzling. When Wang Jian looked over, his vision was filled with an expanse of brilliant white.

He couldn’t help but want to reach out and touch them.

Wang Jian restrained the impulse, however, settling for a few extra glances.

Cai Qiong was no naive girl; this kind of flirtation was re child’s play to her. She scoffed, "With such sweet talk, you must have fooled plenty of little girls."

"How about it?" Cai Qiong continued. "Like looking at legs, huh? Want to feel them? Seeing as you saved yesterday, I wouldn’t mind letting you."

As she said it, Cai Qiong was actually quite nervous, but she didn’t let any of it show on the surface, appearing completely unfazed. She imdiately regretted her words. How could she say sothing like that so casually? She was just trying to be a little cheeky, but what would she do if Wang Jian actually tried to touch them?

Her face flushed slightly, and she quickly added, "You’re not a leg man, are you?"

The braver she acted, the more flustered she felt. If Wang Jian reached out his hand right now, she would crumble instantly.

But Wang Jian just raised his eyebrows, showing no intention of touching her. "I’m really not," he said. "I’m not so pervert. Your legs are indeed beautiful, but I don’t feel the need to touch them."

Cai Qiong could tell from his tone that he was telling the truth. She felt a wave of relief, but also a twinge of disappointnt. However, his next words left her speechless.

"I’m not a leg man. I’m a butt man."

Wang Jian laughed. "I saw a joke online once about how a man’s aesthetic preferences shift downwards with age.

"When they’re young, n look at faces. Once they know a thing or two, they like chests. Then, when they get a bit older, they discover the beauty of legs and buttocks.

"Unfortunately, I’m not young anymore, but I’m not that old either. So right now, I prefer buttocks."

"Pfft."

Cai Qiong had never heard such a ridiculous theory before. She was focused on driving and couldn’t move, otherwise she would have surely given him a playful smack.

Because of that one sentence, her understanding of Wang Jian’s character deepened.

The man was dead serious when he needed to be, but when he was fooling around, he was truly wicked.

A wolf in sheep’s clothing—that’s exactly what he was.
