At this mont, Ada Wong finally revealed an expression of surprise. She glanced at Aiden, a bit astonished by his shooting skills. After all, the shots she fired earlier were all nimbly dodged by the Lickers.
Of course, at that ti she was in a state of panic and didn't aim deliberately, it didn't an her marksmanship was poor.
However, Ada Wong also let out a breath of relief. The man's performance could at least help her get through the imdiate crisis. Although, just now, her intention was to abandon him and escape when Aiden fired his gun and attracted those monsters.
Aiden naturally didn't know what Ada Wong was thinking. In just a few seconds, he emptied a magazine. Noticing Ada Wong dazing out, he shouted in dissatisfaction, "Change the magazine!"
Ada Wong understood the tone in Aiden's voice. Itwas a reminder to keep firing while he reloaded. She glanced at him again before opening fire.
But her weapon was a Browning pistol. Its power naturally couldn't compare to Aiden's rifle. Even though her shots hit the targets with deliberate aim, they didn't achieve anything.
Aiden had already replaced his magazine. Seeing Ada Wong's shots yield no results, he said, "There's a weapon in the bag I'm carrying."
Ada Wong didn't stand on ceremony. She opened Aiden's gun bag and picked a rifle and a few magazines.
But before she could fire, Aiden shouted again, "They're getting closer. We need to widen the distance."
After saying that, Aiden didn't move. He stayed in place and continued shooting. He was waiting for Ada Wong to move first.
Of course, this wasn't to protect her, it was still a reminder.
Ada Wong indeed understood what he ant. After backing up a few steps, she started firing from behind Aiden.
Once he heard Ada Wong's gunfire, Aiden moved, ran a short distance behind her, and stopped again to open fire.
This kind of alternating cover-fire tactic usually requires long-term cooperation and training, but the two of them had received extensive professional training and were elites among elites. Even though it was their first eting, they displayed more coordination than many veteran soldiers.
This made Ada Wong even more surprised and deeply curious about Aiden's identity. But Ada Wong was a reserved woman. She didn't ask directly, instead, she changed the topic.
When passing Aiden again, Ada Wong suddenly asked, "You seem to trust quite a bit. Aren't you afraid I'll shoot you in the back?"
"Not afraid."
"Why?"
Aiden fired several shots at the last Licker. Seeing it fall and not get up again, he turned to Ada Wong and said, "My sixth sense tells you're not that kind of person."
"But we've only just t." Ada Wong was stunned. "And I thought only we won believed in things like a sixth sense."
Aiden removed the magazine from his rifle and took a look. Seeing there were still quite a few bullets left, he reinserted it and said, "Normally, I don't believe in so-called sixth senses, but today is different."
"What's different?" Ada Wong's curiosity was piqued.
Aiden didn't answer. He glanced at the trashed store and silently pulled out a cigarette and lit it.
Ada Wong imdiately gave him a dissatisfied look. She hated people who only said half of what they ant. Although she often did the sa, she hated it even more when others did it to her.
Luckily, she was a woman trained as an agent, extrely adept at emotional control. She quickly cald down and put on a smile.
"Do I still need to treat you to coffee?" she asked with a perfect professional smile.
Aiden pointed at the store with his cigarette and said, "If you can still find a complete cup in there, I'd actually like that."
"Unfortunately, we went a little overboard with the destruction. Looks like it'll have to wait until next ti," Ada Wong said with a regretful expression.
Aiden casually waved his hand. He wasn't actually that into coffee. He'd only said that earlier to tease Ada Wong.
After throwing his half-smoked cigarette to the ground, Aiden asked Ada Wong, "Want to travel together next?"
Faced with this question, Ada Wong was silent for a mont, seemingly thinking about sothing. After a while, she asked back, "Where are you planning to go?"
"The Raccoon City Police Departnt. I have a friend there." Even after eting Ada Wong, Aiden still wanted to find Jill first.
Of course, this also matched Ada Wong's plan. She also wanted to go there. Although Aiden said the police station area, it was on the way anyway.
But she didn't agree imdiately. Instead, she proposed going sowhere first. She needed to grab sothing.
Aiden thought about it for a bit and agreed. After all, at this ti, Jill probably hadn't arrived yet. If they went too early, only zombies would be there to welco them. Don't forget, the police station had already been overrun, and there were far more zombies than living people.
After a brief rest, the two of them left the store. Not far ahead, Ada Wong suddenly looked back and said, "I seem to still not know what to call you."
Aiden didn't imdiately reveal his na but instead asked back, "Before asking soone else's na, shouldn't you introduce yourself first?"
Ada Wong looked at Aiden in surprise and sized him up again. After confirming that the man before her had nothing to do with being a gentleman, she said, "Ada Wong. That's my na."
The place Ada wanted to go wasn't far, it was on the sa street. They didn't walk far before arriving at a two-bedroom, one-living room rental apartnt.
Just like in the original plot, she had arrived in Raccoon City early. Aiden even saw her laundry drying on the balcony.
"Want to sit down? Or I could show you around?" Seeing Aiden curiously looking around the room, Ada politely offered.
"No need. Just looking around." Aiden waved his hand and declined, then saw Ada dragging a large suitcase out from under the bedroom bed.
As Aiden got closer, he saw the box contained a small backpack and waist bag, along with plenty of weapons, ammunition, and communication devices—including a small radio.
If it were soone else, they would have shown a shocked expression or asked questions. But Aiden didn't, so Ada's ti spent preparing a lie was wasted.
After equipping the backpack and waist bag, Ada tossed a small walkie-talkie to Aiden. It still had an earpiece connected.
"Channel one." Ada pointed at the walkie-talkie.
Aiden nodded, adjusted the communication channel, then powered it on and tested it, both sending and receiving worked perfectly.
His professional handling made Ada very satisfied. Her evaluation of him went up again.
'He's definitely not so grunt who only received military training. He must be a professional soldier, at least he was before,' Ada thought.
Tactical skills can be learned and practiced through daily training, but certain details require real experience to master.
Clearly, Aiden was that kind of person.
Of course, if it were the Aiden from two months ago, who had just arrived, he definitely wouldn't have been so ticulous. But after experiencing the mansion incident, he spent a lot of ti on recovery training. While he still wasn't quite back to his peak, he was not far off.
After storing the communicator, Aiden saw Ada tidying things up, so he turned on the radio in the room and leaned against the wall to listen. But the radio was still repeating the mayor's speech from a few days ago. Feeling irritated, he turned it off and silently watched Ada.
Ada spent more than ten minutes organizing everything. When she saw Aiden staring blankly at her, she thought for a mont and asked, "Sure you don't want sothing to drink? I don't have coffee, but I could boil so hot water. I know you people have that habit."
Aiden shook his head, so Ada didn't insist and turned to leave the room.
———
On the street, the two of them walked toward the Raccoon City Police Departnt.
Originally, Aiden wanted to get a vehicle. But their luck was terrible. They searched more than a dozen cars and none worked.
They eventually found a functioning classic Arican pickup truck in front of a store, but shortly after driving off, the road was blocked, so they had to abandon it.
With no other option, they continued on foot.
Although Raccoon City only had a population of a little over 100,000, its area was quite large. Plus, with zombies and infected disturbing them from ti to ti, their walking speed was extrely slow.
By noon, they had only made it through a small part of the city, not even near the edge of the upper district.
Aiden had every reason to doubt whether they could reach the police station before nightfall.
"Still want to keep walking?" Ada asked Aiden inside a small accessory shop.
Glancing at the gloomy sky outside, Aiden sighed, "It's going to rain. Let's rest for a bit, eat sothing, and replenish energy."
Ada nodded. His response was within her expectations, she didn't want to walk in the rain either. Besides wet clothes being uncomfortable, rain would cause body heat loss and speed up fatigue.
Ada took out so food from her bag and tossed a can of beef to Aiden.
Aiden took one look at it and tossed it back. "Get sothing fresher."
Ada raised a pouch of Italian pasta and asked curiously, "How about this?"
Aiden nodded. He'd been eating canned beef and bread for days. He was tired of it and just wanted a change.
"I thought you n preferred at." Ada shook her head, confused, and tossed over the pasta.
Aiden opened the pouch and looked inside. It didn't look great, but after tasting a bite, he found it decent. He said with satisfaction, "If you ate canned beef and bread for ten straight days, you'd be just like ."
"Then why not cook sothing or buy so vegetables and make it yourself?" Ada was puzzled. "I rember Z-country n all know how to cook."
"That's a stereotype," Aiden said, annoyed, though he actually could cook.
Ada suddenly laughed, "Fragile excuse. You're probably just too lazy. That's a common trait among single n."
Hearing that, Aiden froze for a mont, but quickly resud eating without speaking.
Seeing this, a trace of amusent flashed in Ada's eyes. She quietly ate her own canned food, but her eating manner was very refined, unlike Aiden, who practically inhaled the pasta.
After finishing his portion, Aiden felt a bit of regret. He didn't think his earlier performance had left a good impression on Ada, but now she'd definitely think he'd never had good food.
Of course, more importantly the pasta portion was too small. He wasn't full.
"Want more?" Ada raised the half-eaten can in her hand.
"Uh… no need." Although it was a treat, Aiden felt too embarrassed to accept.
But Ada still handed him the leftover can. "Don't be polite… I'm already full," she said.
