In NieR: Automata's story, alien lifeforms invaded Earth. Humanity was defeated and forced to flee to the Moon, where they struggled to survive. Still, humans never gave up the dream of reclaiming Earth, and began creating artificial intelligence (AI) to fight on their behalf.

That's how characters like 2B and other AI protectors of humanity were born.

These AI looked very close to humans, but at the end of the day, AI were still just machines—not truly human. However, over ti, they began to slowly change.

Thus began the long war to reclaim Earth.

Clearly, humanity didn't expect the war to last so long. By the ti the ga starts, it's already the distant year 11945, and Earth still hasn't been taken back.

But to 2B and the other androids, ti doesn't matter. As long as they're functioning, they will continue to fight for humanity.

This is where the story begins—2B is shot down during a mission and is forced to land among the ruins of human civilization, trying to find a way back.

"Wow, the world looks so broken. Can humanity really fall this far? These alien creatures seem really scary and powerful."

...

...

"Heh, don't overestimate humans. Humans are fragile. It's totally normal for AI to end up replacing them. Compared to our weaknesses, AI are practically omnipotent. Having AI fight aliens makes way more sense."

"Sounds like you're a die-hard AI supporter?"

"Of course. I think humans are too weak. If AI really started to replace us, I'd definitely side with them."

"I don't know... I think humans are more creative. AI can't compare with that kind of imagination."

"Maintaining balance in civilization is the hardest part. As for creativity? It's just a brief spark. Don't assu creativity alone can do everything."

In the strear's chat, the conversation had shifted away from the ga itself. People were now debating whether AI deserved to beco rulers of Earth.

Clearly, they had gone off-topic, but the mods didn't intervene.

The conversation was evolving into sothing deeper, and no one was sure whether to stop it.

anwhile, the strear was still fully imrsed in NieR: Automata.

She had already been drawn in by the ga's unique world. The background setting was incredibly interesting—and even she thought 2B looked amazing.

She stared at 2B's black dress, wondering if she could get one just like it.

Maybe in a few days she could find soone to custom-make one. It would probably look beautiful.

But for now, she just wanted to focus on the ga and enjoy the story.

Still, she couldn't help thinking—2B really was stunning.

In this bleak world where humanity had long since fallen, AI still fought for their creators.

Many of them had never even seen a real human—yet they continued to follow their mission faithfully.

Clearly, 2B was more than just a pretty face.

This ga wasn't just about a beautiful lead—it had a aningful story and setting behind it.

At the sa ti, in the U.S., a gar nad Gary also started playing NieR: Automata right at launch.

But besides being a gar, Gary had another identity: he was a researcher in the field of artificial intelligence.

His job involved programming, analyzing, and evaluating AI systems.

In the original world, there was a thod to assess AI called the Turing Test.

In this world, a more advanced evaluation system had been developed: the AI Intelligence Rating System.

This system was more complex than the Turing Test and was the result of years of work by many scientists. It was designed to rate AI by potential and developnt stage.

There were 10 levels in total:

Levels 1–3 represented basic AI—comparable to a human child under five.

Levels 4–7 represented AI that could match average human intelligence.

Levels 8–10 were considered beyond human understanding—if an AI reached these levels, it would essentially be like a god.

So far, no AI had ever reached even Level 3.

As a senior researcher, Gary had started studying NieR: Automata's world as soon as the ga's lore was announced.

A humanity on the brink of extinction, relying entirely on AI to reclaim Earth—he found the premise fascinating.

Before playing, Gary even visited Gastar Electronic Entertainnt's official forums to read the detailed background. The AI lore was incredibly thorough. Even 2B had detailed settings that went far beyond what most gas include.

There were deep references to AI theories—so of which were still in early conceptual stages.

Clearly, whoever wrote this ga's story had a strong understanding of AI.

It made Gary wonder: which expert from the AI field had worked with Gastar on this ga?

He was captivated by 2B's character, but also deeply intrigued by who might be behind the scenes writing such an advanced AI story.

Tonight would be a sleepless one for many gars.

But Takayuki slept peacefully.

He no longer needed to stress about a single ga's success. Even if NieR: Automata didn't fully resonate with this world, he didn't care. He had brought a masterpiece here—and whether this world embraced it or not was up to them.

That very day, NieR: Automata beca a trending topic on Facebook. The discussion forums exploded with activity.

At the sa ti, another topic began to quietly rise in popularity: artificial intelligence.
