Guo Jie walked out of the cinema after being fired once again, feeling utterly alone as she wandered the streets.

This was already the seventh job she had lost this month.

Ever since being expelled from school, Guo Jie’s life had plunged into its darkest period.

The second-generation wealthy kids who used to flock around her had all disappeared.

Accustod to spending lavishly, Guo Jie quickly ran out of money.

Without financial support from those wealthy kids, she had no choice but to find a job to support herself.

But what kind of good job could soone expelled from university, without a diploma or any skills, possibly find?

Guo Jie tried various jobs, but none lasted long.

She couldn't handle hardship, and her high-minded, arrogant nature made it impossible for her to do low-paying, service-oriented jobs.

She had hoped to use her looks to attract a few wealthy guys at work.

Unfortunately, she didn’t et any rich n, only a bunch of broke losers hitting on her.

Today, she couldn't hold it in any longer and quit her job on the spot.

Walking down the street, Guo Jie felt utterly disheartened, as if the heavens were against her.

She was a student at Jiangling Normal University, a beloved princess.

Yet in less than a month, her life had turned upside down.

Now, she couldn't even afford a decent set of costics.

Without makeup, her looks had taken a hit. Her skin had beco dull and acne-ridden due to anxiety and sleepless nights.

If her made-up looks used to score an 80, now they wouldn’t even reach 60.

Guo Jie had tried to be proactive and affectionate with those wealthy kids, even boldly confessing her feelings.

But they all avoided her like the plague, as if they had taken a weighty decision.

With no hope left, Guo Jie suddenly thought of Lin Jichen, her college boyfriend.

Though Lin Jichen was poor, he had always been devoted to her, giving her his best, always being there when she needed him, and treating her unconditionally well.

Thinking of Lin Jichen’s kindness made Guo Jie miss the boyfriend she had so easily discarded.

Now, she wanted to reconcile with Lin Jichen.

She wanted to enjoy his care and attention again, to have him cater to her every whim.

She took out her phone to call Lin Jichen, only to find that his number had changed, and all other contact thods were invalid.

Guo Jie had no choice but to call her forr college roommate, asking her to check on Lin Jichen in his dorm.

But the reply she got was that Lin Jichen had taken a leave of absence and was no longer at school.

Feeling utterly hopeless, Guo Jie walked back to her rented apartnt, her face ashen.

As she passed by a virtual gaming store, her attention was caught by the large screen at the entrance.

The virtual gaming store was similar to the internet cafes of the past, now called virtual cafes, where people played virtual or VR gas.

Just like "Tale of Immortal," many people couldn’t afford the gaming ring, but no problem—the cafes had dedicated channels for "Tale of Immortal."

It was just like the old internet cafes where players who couldn’t afford a computer or preferred the cafe environnt could enjoy gas.

Guo Jie stood still, staring blankly at the promotional video playing on the screen.

The video was an advertisent for the virtual cafe, but what caught Guo Jie’s attention was a very familiar face.

"Want to play 'Tale of Immortal'? Want to experience the virtual ga but can't afford the gaming ring? Co to Blue Aurora Virtual Cafe! No need to buy a gaming ring, you can enter 'Tale of Immortal' and maybe beco the next top player, Lin Jichen!"

As the voiceover passionately introduced, the video showed Lin Jichen wielding a sword, fighting off a thousand enemies, his graceful figure and dazzling sword moves making the viewers’ blood boil.

The video clearly captured Lin Jichen’s handso and ethereal appearance, which made Guo Jie stop in her tracks.

Although Lin Jichen was dressed in ancient attire with long hair and had a significantly different aura, Guo Jie recognized him imdiately.

She had been his girlfriend, after all, and knew him too well.

Moreover, she knew about Lin Jichen’s exceptional gaming talent. Seeing him introduced as the top player in "Tale of Immortal" only confird her suspicions.

To verify her guess, Guo Jie took out her phone and searched for news about Lin Jichen. What she found shocked her.

She hadn’t expected that in just over a month after leaving her, Lin Jichen had beco so famous.

Titles like "Top Player in Tale of Immortal," "Sword God," and "The Man Who Plays Like He’s Cheating" were all associated with him.

Even the most famous search entries had detailed introductions about him; he had beco a celebrity.

Nurous guilds were offering exorbitant amounts to recruit him.

Although Guo Jie didn’t play "Tale of Immortal," she knew about the ga.

Every day on her way to work, she saw its advertisents everywhere.

Being the top player in this ga ant sothing significant, and Guo Jie, being smart, understood this well.

With so many guilds vying to recruit him with outrageous offers, she realized that Lin Jichen had likely escaped his impoverished situation and soared to new heights through this ga.

Guo Jie’s eyes were filled with complex emotions, regret and remorse washing over her.

She hadn’t realized Lin Jichen’s potential and now regretted letting him slip away so easily.

Guo Jie believed that the reason Lin Jichen broke up with her was because Ren Lan had shown him a video of her kissing a wealthy guy on the street.

At the ti, she couldn’t explain herself, was infuriated by Ren Lan, and, coupled with Lin Jichen’s inability to satisfy her material desires, chose to break up.

Now, thinking back, Guo Jie realized how foolish her actions had been.

With Lin Jichen’s talent, he was outstanding both academically and in gaming.

Even if she had to coax and deceive him, once Lin Jichen graduated, he would undoubtedly achieve great things.

But in a fit of anger, she chose to break up.

Guo Jie believed that if she had apologized and acted pitifully, maybe even shed so fake tears, and promised Lin Jichen she would never do it again, he would have forgiven her given how much he adored her.

But she did nothing, letting a potential goldmine slip away.

Guo Jie regretted it deeply.

Suddenly, she made a decision!

"Jichen, wait for . If I can’t find you in reality, I’ll find you in the ga!"

Guo Jie decided to reconcile with Lin Jichen! With her tactics and understanding of Lin Jichen, she believed that with a little manipulation, he would surely soften and take her back!
