SQUEAK!
The falling of the torch woke up the Giant Dire Sewer Rat making it screech in anger. It had been sleeping peacefully, waiting for its kin to bring it so food but now it had all been disturbed.
Its attention was quickly pulled due to the flickering flas of the torch and it walked towards it to investigate it. Being a creature of the dark and cold recesses of the sewers it was not familiar with fire nor heat.
Thus having sothing like a torch appear here, was both irritating and interesting to it.
Arthur was taking advantage of exactly this factor and got the boss to divert its attention. The boss was basically an enlarged version of the Dire Sewer Rats. It was about a ter tall and two ters long. Its claws were sharp and long, and so were its front incisors that were like chisels.
But its large size also gave it blind spots which Arthur utilized. He slid down from them the tunnel entrance and sneaked towards the boss from the side while making sure he made no sound. The flickering light from the torch was enough for Arthur to spot the puddles of water too, preventing him from making noise.
It took him less than five seconds before he was upon the boss.
~SLICK~
The sound of steel cutting against flesh and could be heard as Arthur ambushed the boss. Blood splattered and the oversized rodent moved.
SQUEEEEEEE!
The boss let out a pain filled screech as it got slashed by the Black Tear Short Sword.
[Critical Hit!]

The benefit of the Short sword as well as Arthur's surprise attack could be seen right away. Just the first hit had taken away nearly half of the boss's HP.
"Good, just a few more slashes now!" Arthur said as he swung the short sword once again.
But this ti he was t with resistance.
CLANG!
The claws of the boss actually managed to block the short sword. They were about two inches long and could easily go against the edge of the short sword even if it was sharp.
Arthur pulled back the Short Sword and rolled to the side, avoiding the swipe of the boss. It had used its free limb to take a jab at Arthur, but had missed due to his sudden roll.
"It's still quite agile… though it makes sense with it being a rat." Arthur muttered to himself as he sprinted to the side.
~SCREECH~
The Giant Dire Sewer Rat had swiped out with its claws again, but this ti hit the rock wall, causing sparks to fly. Arthur pivoted using his leg and lunged back, stabbing with the short sword while the boss was still recovering from its last attack.

The Black Tear Short Sword sank a few inches into the leg of the Giant Dire Sewer rat, only being stopped by its bones. Still, the pain caused due to it was enough to enrage the rodent even more.
It retaliated by directly jumping towards Arthur who had to back step, to avoid being crushed by a narrow margin. He circled around the boss while slashing a few tis, causing minor cuts on the boss's body.

The damage from these attacks wasn't high as they were just surface level cuts, but they would still add up in the end.
SKREEE!
The Giant Dire Rat let out a furious cry and charged towards Arthur, intending to ram him into the wall.
"Shit!" But Arthur was still in the middle of attacking, and was barely able to change his direction.
~THUD~
Arthur was struck on his arm, causing him to be knocked away and falling to the ground. The only saving grace was that due to the angle of impact, he was knocked away diagonally.

"A boss is still a boss… hits like bull!" Arthur cursed but had no one to bla.
After all, other than the Black Tear Short Sword he actually didn't have any other good equipnt. And even if he considered his raw stats, like toughness and strength it wouldn't matter.
Going against a boss of the sa level usually ant, being outclassed in terms of raw stats. The way players overca this was by the ans of equipnt, skills and numbers. Arthur only had a single piece of equipnt going for him right now.
"Haa… I'll just have to bet it on the skill then." Arthur took a deep breath while standing up and used the skill that ca with the Black Tear Short Sword.
[Swing Boost activated!]
Arthur rushed towards the Giant Dire Sewer Rat that was turning back from its charge.
~SLICK~
He flipped the short sword backwards and slashed outwards while running just past the boss. The short sword cut from the side of the Giant Dire Sewer Rat's head all the way to the base of its tail.
The long cut bled profusely while also causing the boss to cry out in pain. The damage caused by the long gash was enough for the boss to et its end. The wound continually bled and so of its innards also spilled out.

"AHAHAHA! THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!" Arthur exclaid in joy.
He had just leveled up twice in a row!
He pulled up his status and took a look.

The level up had restored his HP, Stamina and hunger allowing him to relax.
"This'll give a decent boost now…" Arthur said while taking a look at the corpse of the boss.
The restoration of his stamina was important to him, since he would be exhausting it again now.
