Chapter 135: The Dirty Secret
"Her? Really? They can just... Do that? Make you have a girlfriend?" Valerie asked in complete disbelief. It sounded utterly ridiculous, but it wasn’t too hard to believe.
For decades previously, individuals like Idols and Reality Stars had a lot of their relationships either heavily regulated or scripted. Internet personalities too had faked plenty of relationships for the views that it brought.
So Corpo’s engineering a fake relationship based off of a popular ship? She absolutely believed that it could happen, but she had never actually experienced it in real life. It was like getting struck by lightning.
Yeah it happened, but you didn’t expect it to happen to you or soone you knew just completely out of the blue.
Percy nodded solemnly at her question, sighing again.
"Yup, they can and they did. It didn’t start imdiately, but with Kaleigh feeding the rumours even more and managent refusing to let
deny them publicly because of the ratings it was getting them, they eventually had us announce it.
We’re official." He said with a miserable expression
Valerie took a few seconds to process it all, thinking of the logistics of it all and how weird that must have been, especially with how overly eager the other party was.
"Damn, That’s rough dude. Wait... You and haven’t... You know..." She looked at him with slight suspicion and wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.
He frowned, not quite getting what she was talking about until it finally clicked and his face twisted with disgust,
"What? No! I’m an E-sports player, not a hooker! No matter how much they pay
I am not doing that. No we haven’t even kissed outside of public events. I would rather cut off my you-know-what with a rusty butter knife than do it with her.
Hell, I can barely stand to be in the sa room as her, as you saw. Which makes the fact they are bringing her into the guild even worse."
"Huh?! She gets in? That Bimbo? But she’s terrible!"
"I know!" He shouted back to her, planting his hands over his face and letting out a long, miserable groan before letting his arms flop by his side.
"But they kept insisting and insisting for so long, and I kept delaying it. But now Dawd has co out, my excuses about training and composition aren’t working. Especially with how visual and realistic it is.
They decided last week, after the Beta Test closed, but it’s not been made official just yet. They say because I’m the prince, they need soone to be the guilds Queen. That’s their excuse. To have a Queen in the mix."
"But that doesn’t make any sense..." Valerie muttered, shaking her head before adding, "And what about Sandra? Isn’t she technically a Queen? Can’t you just date her instead?"
"Dude... Sandra’s gay, and engaged. Besides, they said she doesn’t count."
"Damn, It’s always the good ones." Valerie muttered, shaking her head like she had lost a good soldier in the fight against evil.
Percy glanced at her, shaking his head at her antics, before saying with a smirk, "You know I’m surprised you don’t know all this already. I an there has been plenty of streams and stuff of us together online.
Plus posts by the guild. Surely you must have seen so of it, right?"
Valerie winced in pain, letting out a nervous laugh and suddenly finding sothing very interesting on the buildings around her. Oh look at that, a new favour of protein-paste.
"I don’t believe it... You don’t follow us, do you?" Percy asked with a slight smirk and a shake of his head.
"Okay... Fine... No, I don’t. When Jason left I kinda picked sides between you and only really paid attention to what he was doing."
"Unbelievable. And here I thought I was talking to my biggest fan. Maybe I should just reconsider helping you," He muttered with a click of his tongue, shaking his head in faux disappointnt, before laughing as Valerie punched him in the leg.
They chatted so more, moving onto less intense and depressing subjects until they eventually made it to Percy’s car that was parked in a secure garage built exclusively for n of his stature, aka well out of Valerie’s price range.
Percy’s car was nothing special. That is, if what you called ’Nothing special’ included the latest model Soaring Shuttle, equipped with full hovering and flight capabilities, a pollutant free air conditioning unit for easy and fresh breathing, as well as four whole cup holders amongst a plethora of other less important features.
And as it happens, Percy’s definition did include that. Valerie’s, however, did not. Not even close. If she spent every penny that she got from her six months rent cheque, she might be able to afford to repair any scratches she might leave on the cars body.
As for actually affording the car itself? She couldn’t even dream of such a thing, just as she could not even dream of living on Mars, although the colonies there weren’t terribly good after the Trillionaire running the program declared the planet his personal kingdom. But still, it was unrealistic to dream of such things.
Percy helped her get into the shuttle, it’s heavenly comfortable seats conforming to her body perfectly and even warming themselves up to just the right temperature automatically, as Percy put her wheelchair in the boot.
Unfortunately Valerie could not enjoy all of the pri comfort features, as she instead sat up straight in the chair completely frozen in fear, not daring to touch anything in case she broke anything.
She was left there, sitting like a statue, for a few minutes while Percy struggled with the wheelchair, before he finally got it in and moved into the drivers seat. He glanced over at her, letting out a soft chuckle as he patted her shoulder reassuringly.
"Ray, relax. If I can afford to own the car, then I can definitely afford to repair it. You won’t break anything, so just sit back, relax and put on your seatbelt. Then once you look like you aren’t about to be electrocuted for touching a button, you can tell
where your apartnt is."
"My apartnt? I thought we were going sowhere to train."
"Yeah, But unless you plan on wearing that every day, you’re gonna need a change of clothes. After all, you said we have a week right? So let’s use it."
