Chapter 932: Chapter 932: The Dilemma in the Middle
Zhang Dacheng felt a bit defeated because he failed to accomplish the task Gao Mantang had assigned to him.
Now they were caught in a crossfire, with ard police lurking outside and those inside chattering away endlessly.
“Everyone, stay put,” Zhang Dacheng commanded.
Earlier, Gao Mantang had told him to think of a solution. The opponents were certainly hatching plans, and his role was to wait.
anwhile, outside, Kong Shenghui was pacing about anxiously. He considered many options, including reporting to his superiors or calling the military headquarters.
But he had rejected all of these ideas. If Gao Mantang found out he had reported to a superior, Gao Mantang would personally co for him.
Finally, Kong Shenghui thought of Gao Zhitao. Right now, Gao Mantang cared most about his grandson. Maybe persuading Gao Zhitao to help could work.
Upon this realization, Kong Shenghui quickly dialed Gao Zhitao’s number. Although Gao Zhitao was stubborn, he was still easier to deal with than his grandfather.
At the hospital, Tie Zhuzi was bragging with Gao Zhitao. Gao Zhitao wasn’t one to back down, and the two were shalessly boasting back and forth, filling the room with smoke and nonsense.
Xiang Yu couldn’t be bothered with them and sat calmly peeling an apple to eat.
In his view, the call Gao Zhitao had just received definitely wouldn’t have been from Huang Yi.
If the Falcon Organization truly ca, the first person they’d target for vengeance would surely be Gao Zhitao. As long as he stayed by Gao Zhitao’s side, catching them wouldn’t be a problem.
In fact, Xiang Yu had never had direct contact with the Falcon Organization, but their notorious reputation alone was enough to make people avoid them.
At that mont, Gao Zhitao’s phone suddenly rang, and Xiang Yu instantly perked up.
Wrapped in bandages, Gao Zhitao glanced pleadingly at Tie Zhuzi and said, “Old Tie, help answer it.”
Tie Zhuzi took an arrogant stance and replied, “Weren’t you bragging just now, claiming you’ve dated more girls than I have? Call one of your girls instead.”
Worried the call might be important, Gao Zhitao chuckled and replied, “Compared to the legendary Old Tie, my exploits are nothing. Who are you, after all? Tall, burly, and unmatched even in bed…”
Even Gao Zhitao himself was cringing at his own words, and Tie Zhuzi, disgusted, finally picked up the phone.
“Who is this, and what do you want with Xiao Gao?” Tie Zhuzi boldly asked.
Kong Shenghui held the phone dumbfounded for a mont. What was this? How could the voice be so crude? Had he dialed the wrong number?
He checked the phone again and confird it was indeed Gao Zhitao’s number.
“Hello, this is Kong Shenghui. I urgently need to speak to Gao Zhitao,” Kong Shenghui said politely.
“Kong Shenghui? So, it’s not a chick then,” Tie Zhuzi said with so disappointnt, before placing the phone by Gao Zhitao’s ear.
Kong Shenghui: “…”
“Hello, Uncle Kong,” Gao Zhitao quickly greeted.
Despite so previous dissatisfaction during the Central Tower incident, Gao Zhitao still regarded Kong Shenghui with respect and addressed him as “Uncle” after it was over.
“Zhitao, I need your help with sothing,” Kong Shenghui cut straight to the point. “Your grandfather has surrounded the City Administration Bureau with troops. You need to persuade him to withdraw them imdiately. This situation can escalate, and if word gets out, it won’t look good.”
When Gao Zhitao heard his grandfather had surrounded the City Administration Bureau, he couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
That old man truly didn’t hold back—this much he knew.
Gao Zhitao figured his grandfather was aiming to arrest Huang Yi. Since Huang Yi was now the bureau chief, it had stirred up a commotion among so many people.
“And you find this funny? Your grandfather listens to no one now. Only you can handle this,” Kong Shenghui said angrily.
Gao Zhitao cleared his throat and suppressed his laughter before replying, “My grandfather has never listened to . Do you really think I can convince him?”
“Bullshit! In this Number Two City, everyone knows you’re the person he dotes on the most. You’re the only one who can persuade him effectively. Don’t waste ti. Call him now. If this drags on, things might take a turn for the worse,” Kong Shenghui said anxiously.
“Uncle Kong, hey, Uncle Kong…”
Kong Shenghui, worried about delays, hung up directly, hoping that Gao Zhitao could dissuade Gao Mantang in ti.
Xiang Yu listened attentively from the side and grew even more impressed with Gao Mantang. That’s what a true man should be—do whatever he wants, whenever he wants.
Xiang Yu had gotten used to his independence while in the military. During missions, he would often act alone, doing things his own way without following procedures. People like him were the scariest.
Clearly, Gao Mantang was also one of those kinds of people. In him, Xiang Yu saw a reflection of himself.
If Gao Mantang were younger, Xiang Yu might even feel inclined to pledge brotherhood with him.
Gao Zhitao chuckled sheepishly and looked at Xiang Yu. “That old man is up to his tricks again.”
Gao Zhitao now felt conflicted. After all, he held the position of Director of the Public Security Bureau, aning his official allegiance was to Kong Shenghui. Yet Gao Mantang was his grandfather.
“Xiang Yu, what do you think I should do?” Gao Zhitao asked.
Lounging in the chair and nibbling on his apple, Xiang Yu replied, “No idea.”
After pondering for a while, Gao Zhitao eventually asked Tie Zhuzi to make the call to his grandfather.
“I’m busy right now. Don’t ss with ,” Gao Mantang shouted imdiately upon answering, the volu so loud it left Gao Zhitao’s ears ringing.
“I’m not interrupting. Just wanted to ask, have you eaten yet?” Gao Zhitao asked.
“Get lost,” Gao Mantang cursed and hung up directly.
Tie Zhuzi burst into laughter, almost rolling on the floor. This grandfather-grandson duo clearly had no barriers between them.
“Should we head to the scene and take a look?” Gao Zhitao asked Xiang Yu. Since he couldn’t move on his own, he had to rely on Xiang Yu.
Xiang Yu, curious about what was happening at the site, nodded in agreent. From Kong Shenghui’s earlier call, he had gathered that things were heating up over there.
At the scene, Zhang Dacheng stood rigidly with his hands behind his back at the glass doors of the lobby. Ten minutes had already passed, and the longer the standoff lasted, the worse their situation beca.
Neither the ard police outside nor the regular officers bunched up inside could hold themselves back. The tension was ready to spill over at any mont.
One person who remained calm, however, was Huang Yi, shackled in the center. With everything escalating to this point, he was curious how Gao Mantang intended to clean up this ss.
If he happened to get a chance to turn the tables, he would ensure the fallout was imnse. By then, Gao Mantang would be dood.
Moreover, all the police here could serve as witnesses, and the place was littered with surveillance caras. Gao Mantang would stand no chance of refuting the evidence later.
anwhile outside, Fang Shichao was restless, pacing back and forth before finally approaching Kong Shenghui. “Secretary Kong, this isn’t getting us anywhere. Why don’t I lead a team and charge in…”
