Chapter 904: Chapter 904: Suddenly Gained a Grandfather

Gao Mantang noticed the hesitation in Xiang Yu’s eyes and hurriedly said, “What do you think? Co on, this is your ho.”

Just then, Gao Zhitao coughed and interjected, “Brother Xiang Yu, don’t listen to him. Let tell you, you absolutely shouldn’t join the military. The military is like a prison. Once you’re in, don’t even think about coming back out. And besides, it’s full of n. Good luck even finding a female soldier there…”

Gao Zhitao was about to continue when he was silenced by a glare from Gao Mantang, so he stopped speaking.

Back in the day, Gao Zhitao also spent ti in the army, but life in the military was too harsh for him. He often snuck out to enjoy himself.

Thanks to Gao Mantang and his two uncles, he had good relationships with many officers in the military.

Because of this, the instructors often turned a blind eye. So older soldiers who didn’t know about Gao Zhitao’s connections tried to teach him a lesson, only to get disciplined by even older veterans in his defense.

From then on, Gao Zhitao just idled his way through the army for two years before being transferred to the police departnt. Not long after that, he was promoted to deputy director.

Well, they say people shouldn’t compare themselves to others—comparison only leads to frustration.

Xiang Yu sat there, staring at Gao Mantang in front of him with a sowhat dazed expression. He knew that if he joined the military now, he’d definitely be under Gao Mantang’s care.

Getting promotions and climbing ranks would be a simple matter. But these external factors weren’t what Xiang Yu was considering. He was thinking: if he really returned to the military, would he end up back at the borders, conducting missions abroad, returning to that battlefield he knew all too well?

He sat there lost in thought for quite a while. Gao Mantang didn’t disturb him and just waited silently.

On the side, Gao Zhitao grew restless. He nudged Gao Mantang and said, “Grandpa, can you stop ruining soone’s life already?”

Gao Mantang imdiately gave his grandson a stern look and said, “Stop making noise. Be quiet.”

The longer Gao Mantang observed Xiang Yu, the more he admired him. If this young man joined the military, he’d absolutely want him as his personal guard.

“Don’t worry. As long as you enlist, I promise no one will bully you,” Gao Mantang said, noticing the light returning to Xiang Yu’s eyes and seizing the mont to entice him.

The hesitancy in Xiang Yu’s eyes slowly gave way to resolve. He smiled lightly at Gao Mantang and said, “Thank you, but I don’t plan to enlist just yet.”

Hearing Xiang Yu’s answer, Gao Mantang’s eyes widened. “Then when do you plan to enlist? Let tell you, now is the best ti! I can arrange the best position for you with the best training, and when you erge, you’ll have Special Forces status.”

Gao Mantang was eager to win Xiang Yu over, so he pulled out all the stops.

Seeing Xiang Yu’s determination, he turned to Gao Zhitao and said, “Say sothing already! Wasn’t your ti in the military great?”

Gao Zhitao had never seen his grandfather go to such lengths for soone. He coughed awkwardly and said, “Well, I know for sure I won’t be going back.”

Gao Mantang nearly exploded with anger. He hit Gao Zhitao’s leg hard, causing him to grit his teeth in pain.

“Grandpa, are you sure I’m your real grandson?” Gao Zhitao muttered through gritted teeth.

Xiang Yu could see Gao Mantang’s sincerity. He gave an apologetic smile and said, “I’m really sorry. It’s not that I don’t want to join the military; it’s just not the right ti. I still have many things left unfinished.”

Gao Mantang, being an experienced and shrewd man, could tell from the expression on Xiang Yu’s face—an expression weathered far beyond his years—that this young man had a story.

Realizing he couldn’t persuade Xiang Yu, Gao Mantang sighed helplessly. Sotis, fate just plays out this way.

In truth, Xiang Yu wasn’t much older than Gao Zhitao. But Gao Zhitao grew up sheltered and cared for.

No matter what mistakes Gao Zhitao made, there was always soone to clean up after him, pointing him towards the right path in life.

Xiang Yu, on the other hand, was always on his own. Even if he made mistakes, there was no one to correct him. He relied solely on his own two hands.

“Child, if you don’t mind, you can call Grandpa just like Zhitao. If anything ever happens, co find . As long as it’s within my power, I’ll help you,” Gao Mantang said sincerely.

On the side, Gao Zhitao pouted and muttered, “So he’s your biological grandson, and I’m just soone else’s.”

Hearing this, Gao Mantang smacked Gao Zhitao again, who yelped in pain. Though he said those words, deep down he was happy.

If even his grandfather acknowledged Xiang Yu, it ant his choice of friend was undoubtedly a good one.

“Thank you,” Xiang Yu quickly said. In truth, he deeply respected Gao Mantang, but calling soone “Grandpa” was not in his nature. He had never called anyone by that term in his entire life.

Gao Mantang was pleased and patted Xiang Yu’s shoulder. Gao Zhitao grinned and exclaid, “Great! This way, I’ve gained another younger brother.”

“I’m older than you,” Xiang Yu replied with a simple smile.

Gao Zhitao didn’t care. He lazily said, “Doesn’t matter to . I’m thirsty and feel like eating so fruit.”

Gao Mantang could only shake his head in resignation. He knew Gao Zhitao too well; the boy was basically trying to chase him out.

“You two talk. I’ll head outside,” Gao Mantang said, then left the room.

Once he left, Gao Zhitao chuckled and said, “Brother, how’s my grandpa? Pretty loyal, huh?”

Xiang Yu responded with a faint smile but said nothing. Gao Zhitao, despite being a second-generation official, didn’t seem as obnoxious as he might have been.

Gao Zhitao sneakily glanced around and, seeing no one else, lowered his voice and said, “Xiang Yu, now everyone knows I defused the bomb, so please don’t let it slip.”

Xiang Yu understood that Gao Zhitao wanted credit and didn’t bother arguing, so he simply nodded.

Seeing this, Gao Zhitao grinned foolishly again and said, “Since you’re being so helpful, why not go all the way and find the culprit for ?”

Xiang Yu nodded and said, “Don’t worry. The culprit is no longer in this world.”

Hearing this, Gao Zhitao looked at Xiang Yu in disbelief. “What do you an?”

“He’s dead,” Xiang Yu said flatly.

“What?” Gao Zhitao exclaid, full of doubt. But seeing the seriousness in Xiang Yu’s eyes, he realized he wasn’t lying.

Taking a cautious look around, Gao Zhitao whispered, “Xiang Yu, tell Grandfather if there’s anything going on. He can still help you.”

Xiang Yu nodded but didn’t elaborate. His mind was preoccupied with one thought—would mbers of the Falcon Organization co here?

These people operated with no rules or accountability, with utter disregard for governnts. Now that Ren Baohe had **** died here, would they co seeking revenge by instigating a terror attack to vent their fury…
