Chapter 877: Chapter 877: Decisive Rejection of Cooperation
Wan Jianxin heard Sun Bo calling him and stopped abruptly; in his eyes, Sun Bo was acting irrationally today.
Previously, he had interacted with Sun Bo a few tis, and they had hit it off, with both expressing a willingness to collaborate.
Their original plan today was to et up and discuss the next steps of their cooperation, but who could have predicted so many unexpected events would occur.
“There’s no need for further consideration. We can’t cooperate. This city doesn’t welco you, and I must tell you: there will never be a Wanxin Group company here, nor will anyone cooperate with you,” Sun Bo said resolutely.
Deep down, he still felt a bit regretful. After all, working with Wanxin Group could elevate Yuran Group to new heights and open doors to a new field.
But since the other party had provoked Xiang Yu, talking about cooperation was now aningless nonsense.
“You’d better think this through again,” Wan Jianxin said through clenched teeth, before saying nothing more and hurriedly leaving.
Once outside, he kicked a nearby door in anger, breaking it open. Inside, a couple who had been whispering sweet nothings to each other jumped to their feet in fright at the sudden intrusion.
“Cheap trash,” Wan Jianxin spat disdainfully, then stord downstairs, leaving the couple standing there in utter confusion.
After Wan Jianxin left, Cheng Wanli stood awkwardly nearby. He didn’t know whether to sit or stand and simply froze where he was.
Fang Rong walked over and sat beside Xiang Yu, giving him a complicated look as she asked, “Who exactly are you?”
“I’m Xiang Yu, haven’t you lost your mind, have you?” Xiang Yu smiled at her teasingly.
Just then, a waiter from outside pushed a dining cart in and began serving dishes. Although Xiang Yu had already eaten several apples, he had been starving for a while.
Seeing the food being served, he couldn’t wait any longer and imdiately began eating.
Cheng Wanli watched Xiang Yu eat and couldn’t believe soone with such a significant background could behave this way.
This completely overturned many of his assumptions: the city contained people like Xiang Yu—dressed plainly, with average looks, acting humble—but powerful beyond asure.
Halfway through the al, Xiang Yu suddenly rembered sothing and asked, “Oh, did that bald guy pay the bill?”
Everyone: “…”
A large portion of the al had been devoured by Xiang Yu. The remaining three shared a much smaller appetite. Sun Bo, accustod to this behavior, wasn’t surprised at all.
On the other hand, Cheng Wanli admired Xiang Yu’s appetite deeply—it was almost like watching a calf eat.
After finishing the al, Cheng Wanli found the atmosphere awkward and said a few polite words before attempting to leave.
“The Chi Heng Group is quite good. You should collaborate with them more,” Xiang Yu suddenly suggested to Sun Bo.
Upon hearing this, Cheng Wanli’s eyes lit up instantly. His purpose today was to establish rapport with Sun Bo, and while Sun Bo had yet to comnt, Xiang Yu’s recomndation was a promising sign. Now the question was, how would Sun Bo react?
Cheng Wanli gazed at Sun Bo in eager anticipation. Sun Bo nodded like a child and said, “Got it, Brother Yu. I’ll steer more business toward Chi Heng Group.”
Cheng Wanli almost leaped with joy. Having made it in the business world, there weren’t many things that could still excite him anymore, but winning the favor of Yuran Group’s general manager was well worth celebrating.
He shot Xiang Yu a grateful glance, said thank you, and then rushed out. Once outside, he humd a cheerful tune—turns out, coming to freeload on dinner had been the right move.
Fang Rong sat there as if she were dreaming. At last, she understood why she had suddenly been promoted to sales vice president—it was all thanks to Xiang Yu.
Everyone is human, after all, and Fang Rong wasn’t about to feign moral superiority. The sales vice president role provided her with a bigger stage to demonstrate her abilities, and she wasn’t foolish enough to resign.
“Thank you,” Fang Rong said, punching Xiang Yu lightly.
The more she looked at Xiang Yu now, the more attractive she found him—he must be the handsost man in the world. Her criteria for a potential partner unconsciously shifted toward Xiang Yu, and stars sparkled in her eyes.
“How are you going to thank ?” Xiang Yu turned and gave her a teasing grin.
“Get lost!” Fang Rong laughed, punching Xiang Yu again. “I’ve just been promoted; there’s a lot of work waiting for . I’ll treat you to dinner another ti—I have to leave now.”
With that, Fang Rong walked out. She had spent the entire morning trembling in paranoia, thinking Cheng Wanli had mistaken her for soone else. But now, that anxiety transford into elation—she couldn’t wait to start her new role.
Only Xiang Yu and Sun Bo remained in the room.
Sun Bo lanted, “Brother Yu, Wanxin Group is very influential. If we cooperate with them, we could expand our business and open up larger markets. While Wan Jianxin has so character flaws, they’re still a viable partner.”
As a businessman, Sun Bo’s primary concern was how to grow the company and maximize its profitability.
Xiang Yu nodded in agreent. “If it were purely comrcial cooperation, they’d make ideal partners. But you don’t understand their background.”
“They’re half-business, half-criminal. On the surface, everything appears legitimate, but behind the scenes, there’s a hint of criminal activity. At the start of the partnership, things might go well—but once the stakes beco too high, they’ll surely turn on you. By then, they’d already have their roots planted in the city, looking for ways to eliminate us. The conflicts will escalate, and instead of waiting for that fallout, we should reject them outright now.”
Hearing Xiang Yu’s analysis, Sun Bo nodded vigorously. He had also heard rumors about Wan Jianxin’s questionable conduct. Wanxin Group’s expansion relied heavily on partnerships before attempting to swallow up competitors.
Sun Bo had lowered his guard because he knew Xiang Yu had his back—as long as Xiang Yu was around, he feared no threats.
Now that the situation was clearer to him, Sun Bo felt reassured.
“Brother Yu, I’ve got plenty of work to do—I need to get going,” Sun Bo said, standing up. As the company’s general manager, there were countless matters demanding his attention.
Others might think a general manager enjoyed a relaxing and leisurely life, but once seated in that role, the responsibilities proved anything but easy.
“Make sure the bill’s settled before you leave—that bald guy didn’t pay,” Xiang Yu shouted behind him.
Sun Bo: “…”
Xiang Yu stayed behind, finishing up the remaining food. True to his principle of preventing waste, as he left, he even pocketed the last apple.
On the street, Xiang Yu originally planned to visit the mall’s skyscraper for another round of inspection—it remained a significant threat.
After all, since Ren Baohe had proposed blowing up the place, it ant the threat wasn’t idle talk.
Right then, Xiang Yu’s phone rang—it was a call from Han Rui. Han Rui was the head of “Longxin,” operating in the shadows.
Previously, this line of work had been managed by Wang Ze, but under Han Rui’s leadership, intelligence operations had been streamlined effectively. However, Xiang Yu rarely deployed them; these people were his secret weapon, ant to remain hidden…
