Since Qin's mother questioned Chu Ge, this conversation has, in fact, beco quite clear. With the matter brought to this point, even if she feels awkward or uneasy internally, she can only brace herself and continue.
"Little Chu, to be honest, both of us sincere old folks genuinely like you. I believe you can see that, right? We... um, how should I put it..."
"Auntie, don't worry, just take your ti. I'm listening."
Qin's mother was already quite embarrassed, while Chu Ge, on the other hand, seed completely unaffected. He maintained a gentle smile on his face, diligently washing dishes, and even tried to comfort her.
Seeing this reaction from Chu Ge, Qin's mother had very mixed feelings. She couldn't understand how Chu Ge could be so certain when the topic they were discussing was about his marriage to Qin Ruojing.
Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Qin's mother said, "Little Chu, just because your Uncle doesn't say anything doesn't an he doesn't know. After all, he has worked as a senior detective his entire life, and it's quite easy for him to find out about you."
Chu Ge smiled and nodded, still maintaining an attentive deanor, waiting for Qin's mother to continue speaking.
"You know about the incident with that policewoman nad Mu Lingshan and the Jinkai Villa being aired on TV. Your Uncle and I watched it too. To be honest, I was really shocked. I didn't expect you to have such skills and courage."
"Your Uncle was full of praise for you at that ti. Later, he and Xiaoying told so things he found out about you. It's said that in Lidu, you seem to mingle smoothly with everyone from high-ranking officials to common folks. On this note, I truly admire you."
"Although this Auntie is just a housewife and not very smart, from these matters, I can at least see that you're not as simple as you seem. Granted, having great skills is a good thing, but I've learned from my years with your Uncle that people with great talents often have troubles."
At this, Qin's mother sighed wearily, a wry smile appearing on her face.
"As feared, you indeed got into big trouble this ti. When I learned about it, my heart was at a complete loss for words. To put it selfishly, even if not for you, just considering my daughter, think about it—if anything were to happen to you, how much of a blow would it be to Xiaojing?"
"It's fortunate you woke up. Seeing you now, you seem fine, but I'm still worried. Please don't take offense at my harsh words, but what if this happens again, or even a third or fourth ti? Can you promise it won't happen again?"
eting Qin's mother's expectant gaze, Chu Ge shook his head without hesitation, "I can't."
Qin's mother was stunned for several seconds, seemingly not expecting such a straightforward negative answer, as if seeing her slim hope dashed.
"Little Chu, since you said you can't, how can I trust handing my daughter over to you? As for harsh words, I won't say more, but you should understand what I an, right?"
Just as he shook his head earlier, Chu Ge nodded just as decisively.
"I understand that if I'm disabled, I beco a burden to Xiaojing. If I die, Xiaojing becos a widow. So no matter what, you don't want that to happen. Better to cut the pain short and let leave Xiaojing early so she can find a simple, honest man, and you'll feel at ease."
Every word Chu Ge spoke hit the mark. That was indeed Qin's mother's thought. Since he understood so clearly, it seed she no longer needed the words she had prepared, and could simply ask him for an answer.
"Then... what do you think, Little Chu? Can you consider a mother's heart and... leave my daughter?"
"Auntie, there might be many reasons for to leave your daughter, but if it's for this reason, then I'm sorry, I fear I will disappoint you."
As he spoke, Chu Ge had finished washing the last dish, lifted it from the sink, placing it on the counter with a ding, as firm and concise as his answer.
Qin's mother stared blankly as Chu Ge shook the water off his hands, placing the stacked dishes away, closing the cupboard with a soft click. Her brows furrowed deeply, her eyes filled with discontent.
"Chu Ge, can you really not understand the arduous kindness of a mother? Did everything I said earlier go to waste?"
"No, of course not. While I might not personally experience your love for your daughter, I can responsibly say that I fully understand it, and owe you imnse respect, even deeply envying that she has soone like you who loves her so wholeheartedly."
Qin's mother's brow furrowed tighter, her expression growing more displeased, "Whether you respect or not is irrelevant to . Right now, I just want to ask you one thing—what should I do to make you leave my daughter?"
The visibly agitated Qin's mother was t by Chu Ge's helpless smile, "Auntie, I'm truly sorry, but no matter what you do, I won't leave your daughter. She is my wife, the woman I deeply love, and I am her husband, the man she deeply loves."
"Don't keep throwing that word around. Do you children even know what love is?"
"Sotis, I feel that understanding love isn't directly related to age. For instance, when your daughter was too young to speak, she'd smile brightly just seeing you and flutter into your arms like a young bird returning to the nest. Isn't that a form of love?"
After a slight pause, Chu Ge smiled again, "By the way, whether you believe it or not, I rarely speak the word love, because I understand the gravity of that word—it is heavy, very heavy."
"I don't want to hear all that flowery talk," Qin's mother said coldly, her tone tinted with impatience and irritation.
Despite the untily circumstance, Chu Ge found a bit of humor in it. Clearly, it was Qin's mother who asked about his understanding of love, yet when he expressed his thoughts, it seed to fault him.
He certainly wouldn't leave Qin Ruojing for this reason, but he also didn't want to make his mother-in-law uncomfortable. He truly didn't want to clash with Qin's mother and, if possible, would prefer to calmly work things out with her.
After all, Qin Ruojing, along with the less-known Qin Ruoying, was caught between him and her parents. He hoped his bride wouldn't be in such a difficult position and could receive sincere blessings from her most important parents at this most significant mont in life, leaving no regrets at the sacred, beautiful occasion about to unfold.
Qin's mother turned her face away, chest heaving for a few seconds, then suddenly swung her head around, eyes fixed keenly on Chu Ge with resentnt.
"If you truly love my daughter, shouldn't you think about her? Didn't you just say you can't ensure the sa situation won't happen again? If one day you're injured, disabled, or dead, what about her? How can you be so selfish?"
"Auntie, I don't want to co up with so grand excuse for myself. I must admit that I'm not the most selfless person, but that doesn't conflict with considering Qin Ruojing."
"There's a saying I believe you've heard—'plans can't keep up with changes.' A perfectly healthy person might just be out buying groceries, eating, or taking a walk when they encounter various unforeseen dangers, getting hurt, disabled, or dying. So, what's odd about saying I can't guarantee I'll never be in danger again?"
"You're... being unreasonable."
Chu Ge shook his head, his deanor calm and respectful, neither arrogant nor submissive.
"No, I'm speaking the truth. And moreover, even if my reason seems flawed to you, may I ask, according to your logic, should Uncle have left you the day he beca a detective?"
Hearing this, Qin's mother imdiately felt a headache. She genuinely suspected Chu Ge had conspired with Qin Ruojing, otherwise, how could he raise such a similar question?
Little did she know, Chu Ge and Qin Ruojing had never discussed these matters. Perhaps it could only be attributed to so mystical affinity or perhaps during their ti knowing and loving each other, they had already subtly influenced one another to the extent of an astonishing alignnt in their perspectives.
Left speechless, Qin's mother heard Chu Ge continue.
"Auntie, one must know that being a detective is a high-risk job. They have to deal with criminals. It's no exaggeration to say they're almost constantly in danger. Even now, having soone co to seek revenge is entirely possible. Do you think I'm right?"
"If following your logic, did Uncle leaving you the mont he beca a detective prove he loved you? And by not leaving, was he selfish? Moreover, even though you might often be anxious, are you not happy every ti you see Uncle coming ho safely?"
