"Knock, knock, knock."
Hearing this sound, Chu Ge couldn't help but perk up, imdiately standing up from the sofa and striding to the door, pulling it open in one swift motion.
Unfortunately, appearing in his view was not the Mu Xiaoting he was expecting, but an unfamiliar little girl of about five or six years old.
The little girl had long eyelashes, big eyes, her hair in pigtails, with fair skin, and she was wearing children's clothes with a Mickey Mouse pattern, looking extrely cute.
Looking at this doll-like adorable little girl, Chu Ge was montarily stunned.
When the door suddenly opened, not only was Chu Ge taken aback, but the little girl was also clearly startled, her body even shivered slightly, and the plastic bag in her hand fell to the ground with a "plop" sound.
Though feeling disappointed, Chu Ge composed himself, gave a gentle smile, "Little sister, is there sothing you need?"
The little girl snapped to, speaking timidly in a soft, childish voice, "I was playing downstairs earlier, and an uncle bought lots of yummy things, telling to co knock on this door and give sothing if soone opened it."
Saying that, the little girl looked at the plastic bag on the ground, and Chu Ge glanced at it too.
Inside were chocolates, lollipops, chips, and other snacks, along with an envelope. The item the little girl took out of the bag was indeed that envelope.
Chu Ge took the envelope, and the little girl smiled at him, "Uncle, I delivered the item to you, goodbye uncle."
"Wait a minute."
As the little girl was about to turn away, Chu Ge called out to her, and she blinked those big eyes, "Uncle, is there sothing else?"
Chu Ge squeezed the envelope, feeling sothing square inside, perhaps like a photo, but he didn't rush to open it. He imdiately asked, "What does the person who gave you this envelope look like, what did he say, and where is he now?"
The little girl seed a bit bewildered by this barrage of questions from Chu Ge, staring blankly at him for several seconds without a word.
"Little sister, that person might be an old friend of mine I haven't seen in a long ti, and I really want to see him. Can you take to find him?"
Seeing the little girl's hesitation, Chu Ge smiled again, "Let's head downstairs, and we can talk as we walk. Later, uncle will buy you more yummy treats, okay?"
Chu Ge softened his tone even more, showing a gentle smile to the little girl, who imdiately bead and nodded eagerly, "Okay, okay."
Even though Chu Ge hadn't opened the envelope yet, just judging by the fact that the other party didn't dare face him openly and instead sent a little girl who clearly knew nothing, there was definitely sothing suspicious.
So, Chu Ge's imdiate priority was to find this sneaky and mysterious person.
Seeing the girl agree, Chu Ge imdiately closed the door, exclaid "Let's ride the horse," and scooped the girl up, seating her on his shoulders, and headed swiftly towards the elevator amidst her giggles.
As the elevator descended, the little girl told Chu Ge about the uncle, unfortunately, she couldn't really describe how the person looked, only ntioning he was on a motorcycle and wearing a helt.
Hearing this, Chu Ge couldn't help feeling a bit downcast; even though he acted quickly, if the person wanted to leave, they would certainly be long gone by now.
He could only hope that the person was still outside waiting, wanting to confirm if the girl had completed the task.
The elevator quickly descended to the ground floor, opening with a "ding" sound.
Chu Ge quickly walked out of the apartnt building, glancing around. Sure enough, about ten ters ahead stood a man leaning against a motorcycle, wearing a helt that concealed his whole face.
"That's the uncle," at the sa ti, the little girl sitting on Chu Ge's shoulders spoke up.
Before the girl finished speaking, Chu Ge placed her on the ground and quickly ran towards the man next to the motorcycle.
Chu Ge moved swiftly, but the man wasn't slow either. Just as Chu Ge stepped out of the apartnt door and their eyes t, the man leapt onto the motorcycle.
Seeing this, Chu Ge couldn't help but curse silently; the other party was obviously very cautious. The parking spot was far from the apartnt entrance, so even if he moved fast, the other person would have plenty of ti to ride away.
However, this ti Chu Ge seed to be favored by Lady Luck. Despite the motorcyclist's quick and skilled moves, he unexpectedly failed to start the engine, and with Chu Ge running at full speed, only a short six to seven ters now separated them.
Chu Ge's eyes lit up montarily, silently acknowledging a great opportunity. He pushed his speed to the limit; just one more instant and he could yank the person off the motorcycle!
But at that mont, sothing completely unexpected happened.
The motorcyclist pulled a knife from his coat, his wrist steady and quick. The knife sliced through the air with a bright silver flash, flying like an arrow released from a bow.
The direction the knife flew in wasn't aid at Chu Ge at all, but at the little girl standing there with big eyes, gazing up at a bird, looking like an adorable porcelain doll!
Realizing the assailant's intention, Chu Ge's expression changed dramatically. He slamd to a halt, changed his direction, and threw himself to the right, just like a goalkeeper diving to save a penalty, reaching out for the gleaming knife.
At this mont, there was only one voice in Chu Ge's mind: he had to make it!
In the critical mont, Chu Ge finally caught the knife by the handle, and at the sa ti, the sound of the motorcycle engine roared behind him.
He turned his head to see the motorcyclist already starting the motorcycle, holding the handle with his left hand, making a thumbs-up gesture with his right, and then inverting it with a harsh thumbs down.
Though only a few seconds had passed, the unmarked motorcycle was already speeding out of Chu Ge's sight.
Chu Ge was unwilling but had no choice; he was now certainly too late to catch up. He could only watch as the motorcycle disappeared into the distance.
Looking at the knife in his hand that he had just snatched, Chu Ge had a very complicated expression.
In this brief encounter, Chu Ge could tell from the opponent's response ability, the speed of his actions, and the precision of the knife throw, that this motorcyclist was anything but ordinary. Not only were his skills exceptional, but his ntal fortitude was also extrely solid.
If Chu Ge hadn't intervened, this knife would undoubtedly have hit the little girl, and... it would have been her heart. This innocent little girl would have been dood!
The motorcyclist was clearly gambling, betting whether Chu Ge would continue to chase him or save the little girl. As for the outco, he won; Chu Ge had no ti to think and instinctively lunged for the knife mid-air.
This allowed the motorcyclist enough ti to escape, while Chu Ge completely lost the chance to catch him. From a tactical standpoint, the motorcyclist's judgnt was very sharp, even though his actions could be deed despicable and cruel.
Chu Ge shifted his gaze from the knife to the path where the motorcyclist disappeared. More than regretting not catching the guy, he felt relieved to have saved the little girl.
Thank goodness he made it, otherwise, there would have been an innocent little girl who died because of him.
While Chu Ge was thinking, the little girl skipped over to him and asked curiously, "Uncle, weren't you friends? Why did he leave as soon as he saw you?"
The little girl had been distracted by a bird flying by and hadn't seen the scene where the motorcyclist threw the knife at her, unaware she had just taken a trip to the gates of hell. Her big, beautiful eyes blinked, filled with innocent wonder.
Watching the pure innocence on the little girl's face, much of Chu Ge's tension dissipated. He smiled, patting her head, "Because he's playing a ga with – he's running and I'm chasing. I lost because I didn't catch him."
"Uncle, why are you holding a knife? My mom never lets touch these things. She says they're dangerous. She doesn't even let handle the kitchen knives at ho."
"That's because you're still a child. Once you grow up a bit, your mom will teach you how to peel apples with a paring knife and cut vegetables with a kitchen knife. This knife is a gift from that uncle, and since I'm an adult, I get to handle these things."
"Oh, I see." The little girl nodded, half-understanding, glancing over at a supermarket not far away. Then she lifted her chubby hand, scratching the air a little with her fingers, and smiled shyly, "Um... Uncle, you said you'd buy sothing tasty."
Chu Ge laughed heartily, "Of course, Uncle keeps his promises. Whatever you want to eat, Uncle will buy it for you."
"Anything is fine." The little girl bead with happiness, her smile bashfully sweet and adorably cute.
Chu Ge went to the supermarket and ca back with a bunch of snacks, giving them to the little girl as he ca out. Her face lit up with a joyful grin that couldn't be contained.
She clutched the two heavy plastic bags, waving repeatedly to Chu Ge, saying "Goodbye, Uncle" several tis, before happily entering another apartnt building.
Only after the little girl's silhouette vanished did the gentle smile on Chu Ge's face gradually fade. He turned and went back into the building to Room 111, casually tossing the knife onto the dining table, then opened the envelope the little girl had brought him.
Inside the envelope were photos, three in total, all of the sa person.
And this person was Mu Xiaoting, whom Chu Ge and Mu Lingshan were currently searching everywhere for.
By now, things were clearly evident: Mu Xiaoting had indeed been kidnapped.
