"Dad went out this morning because he had so things to do."

Rembering his father-in-law’s instructions, Mo Han replied in haste, "Mom, please rest on the sofa for a while, I’ll take you to the hospital later."

"Mhm."

The tornt of her illness had stripped Yang ifeng of her usual brash and domineering deanor. She answered softly, her eyelids growing heavier until she finally fell into a deep sleep.

"Ning’er, call 120 first. Renkang Hospital is the nearest, and they’re likely to send an ambulance first."

Mo Han instructed his wife and then, with great patience, started searching the room.

His mother-in-law was definitely poisoned, but the source of the poison was not easy to find.

According to his mother-in-law, she had a falling out with the family last night, then sat on the sofa eating fruit and watching a TV drama.

Could it be that the fruit was laced with poison?

No, that’s not right!

Mo Han shook his head; the fruit was bought by him, and in the afternoon, he had peeled two for his daughter Chen Chen. If there really was a problem with the fruit, Chen Chen would have been affected in the afternoon.

But if it wasn’t the fruit, it couldn’t be that his mother-in-law got poisoned without any reason, right?

"So annoying! Dad is also to bla, why doesn’t he answer his phone? What’s the point of having a cellphone?" It was at this mont that Luo Ning said frantically, holding her cellphone.

Mo Han shook his head with a bitter smile. How could his father-in-law possibly answer the phone right now? He was still out trying to raise four hundred thousand by selling tea leaves.

Father-in-law? Tea leaves? Four hundred thousand?

Wait a minute!

A bold thought rose up in Mo Han’s mind. He took a deep breath and walked seriously over to the coffee table.

On the table was the cup from which his mother-in-law had drunk milk, now with a white film on it, presumably because it hadn’t been cleaned imdiately.

Mo Han picked up the cup and sared the inside with his index finger before bringing it close to his nose to sniff.

Suddenly, his eyes shot open.

That was the scent of Lycoris!

As a descendant of the legendary healer Ye Lingfeng, Mo Han imdiately recognized the lingering scent of Lycoris in the milk cup.

He sniffed again and found a faint fragrance of Lycoris also emanating from the trash can next to it, almost imperceptible unless one intentionally slled it.

Mo Han rummaged through the trash can and retrieved a plastic bottle the length of a finger.

There were no words on it, and it still contained a small amount of liquid.

He dripped a couple of drops on his hand and sniffed them, confirming his suspicion.

The substance that had poisoned his mother-in-law was indeed the Lycoris liquid contained in this plastic bottle.

Lycoris, also known as red spider lily, grows in gloomy and damp areas. It sprouts flower stems and blooms in autumn, and following the blossoming the leaves grow; but by the spring and sumr seasons, the leaves gradually wither, and the bulbs enter a dormant state.

The flower is predominantly blood-red in color, which looks both enchanting and eerie.

Nearly every part of it is poisonous, from root to stem to fruit to seed, everything is toxic.

The seeds, in particular, contain enough poison that a small extract can kill a cow in a short period of ti.

The toxicity of the leaves cos next, which can paralyze the nerves of humans and animals, causing extrely severe impact to the body.

Based on the toxicity, Mo Han could confirm that the bottle contained a diluted essence of Lycoris leaves.

"Mo Han, what are you doing?"

Seeing her husband staring at the plastic bottle, Luo Ning asked with a frown.

At a ti like this, why was Mo Han still interested in looking at a bottle?

"Nothing."

Mo Han pocketed the half bottle of Lycoris and changed the subject, "Has the ambulance from Renkang Hospital arrived?"

"Yes, it’s downstairs!"

Luo Ning said with a bitter smile, "What’s been happening to my mom this year? A few days ago, she was locked up, and today she suffers this..."

Two minutes later, three people in white coats carried Yang ifeng out on a stretcher.

Anxious about her mother, Luo Ning followed the staff and accompanied them in the ambulance.

Mo Han had no choice but to follow the ambulance on an electric scooter, speeding along with his daughter in tow.

In the hallway of the ergency room.

Seeing Yang ifeng being moved from the stretcher to the hospital bed, the attending physician Doctor Fang hurried over, picked up a stethoscope and listened for over a minute at her chest, then shook his head repeatedly.

Having practiced dicine for many years, he could tell from the patient’s heart rate and its frequency, together with her dark, purplish complexion, that there was an eighty percent chance that she wouldn’t make it.

He sighed and said to Luo Ning, the family mber accompanying the patient, "You better be ntally prepared."

"ntally prepared? What do you an by that?"

Luo Ning panicked, "My mother has only been ill for half an hour, how could she..."

Doctor Fang shook his head and pointed at the heart monitor on the patient’s bed, "I understand your feelings, but the machine doesn’t lie. Your mother is in extrely critical condition right now and could pass away at any mont."

"As for the onset of the illness, I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, ’Illness cos on like a landslide’—no one can predict when sickness will strike."

"Whimper, whimper, whimper..."

In an instant, Luo Ning could no longer hold back her tears, which flowed down in torrents.

She had never imagined that her mother, who had been talking to her the night before, might never be seen again today.

Seemingly used to such scenes, Doctor Fang patted Luo Ning’s shoulder and slowly turned away.

"No, that’s not right! It’s poisoning, she was poisoned!"

Luo Ning suddenly recalled what Mo Han had said. She grabbed the attending physician’s hands, her voice frantic, "Doctor! Please take a blood sample from my mother and check what poison she has ingested!"

"Poisoning?"

Doctor Fang, a conventional Western dical practitioner, frowned at the ntion of poisoning, his face showing imdiate discomfort, "Who told you she was poisoned? That’s ridiculous!"

"Your mother is suffering from an aortic dissection aneurysm."

"dically speaking, when blood from within the aortic lun enters the middle layer of the aorta through a tear in the intima, the dia layers separate, causing a two-layer separation of the aortic wall along its longitudinal axis."

"In simple terms, it’s intense abdominal pain caused by tearing of the intima, compounded by myocardial ischemia, insufficient cerebral blood supply, coma, hemiplegia, and acute cardiac tamponade."

"Your mother’s condition is very critical right now and she must undergo surgery imdiately!"
