Was he overthinking it, or had Zhang Hao reached a point where he believed he was beyond help and could do whatever he wanted?
While he pondered, Zhang Hao had already picked up a pen and scribbled a long list of items on the prescription slip.
Xia Xin turned and struggled to recognize the contents written there.
She nudged Zhang Hao’s shoulder with her elbow, "What’s this? You doctors really have handwriting like chicken scratch, but as long as it can cure my illness, I’ll consider it a rit on your part."
Those words, ’a rit on your part’, made Zhang Hao feel sowhat embarrassed.
"Don’t praise or put on a pedestal; you might be scared in a bit."
Xia Xin wasn’t concerned. Now that the dical results were out, what was there to be afraid of?
It was simply a matter of life or death at the doctor’s word, and moreover, it depended on whether the doctor had enough experience.
If it was just a regular junior doctor, then their words wouldn’t be very credible.
Perhaps later on, she would have to visit another hospital and find a more specialized doctor to check her health.
That was the worst-case scenario she had imagined.
"Take this and go pay for it. I hope your heart doesn’t skip a beat when you see the price."
The prescription was only the size of a palm at most.
But as Xia Xin took it from Zhang Hao’s hands, she felt as if the paper weighed as much as Mount Tai.
It seed like she couldn’t hold it steady with just one hand, especially with Zhang Hao’s unfathomable smile.
Xia Xin felt a hint of fear, "I’ll go first then. If anything happens to , I still have you, right? You’ll have to save my life."
The way she spoke didn’t sound like a joke. Xia Xin left the departnt and returned in less than ten minutes, hurrying back in.
She slapped the slip in front of Zhang Hao, "What kind of dicine did you prescribe? It’s costing over ten thousand! Are you fleecing because you think I’m an easy mark?"
Prescriptions costing more than ten thousand were not common in hospitals, but they weren’t rare either—so dicines were special, after all.
"But this dicine will cure you. Of course, there are cheaper options, but they won’t be effective and will be useless for you," said Zhang Hao.
Xia Xin, too upset to catch her breath, was at a loss for words to counter him.
Intuition told her that Zhang Hao was right, and it was certainly not right to lose her temper with him for no good reason.
Maybe she’d be dragged out by security and end up in another embarrassing situation, which she did not want.
"Fine, ten thousand it is. But if it doesn’t cure my ailnt, prepare to receive a summons from my lawyer," Xia Xin said, turning to leave.
The other two doctors looked over curiously, "Mr. Zhang, what kind of dicine did you prescribe her? The dicines from our departnt of traditional Chinese dicine aren’t usually that expensive."
"We’re using top-quality ingredients. You think traditional Chinese dicine is cheaper than Western dicine?" Zhang Hao replied.
At that point, the other two doctors understood as well.
"That’s true. If you’re using the best ingredients, then ten thousand won’t be enough. Seems you pulled out all the stops for her," said one doctor.
Zhang Hao sighed. With not much ti left until the end of his shift, he hurried to see one more patient.
After he finished with the last patient, Zhang Hao was ready to pack up and go ho.
But when he looked up, he saw He Qianhui standing right in front of him.
"Oh, Xiaohui, what brings you here?"
"I ca to get so dicine. Lately, I’ve been really tired, so I just ca over from the Departnt of Surgery."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Hao quickly sat back down, "Give your hand."
He Qianhui stretched her hand out, and Zhang Hao felt her pulse, which was a bit weak and erratic.
"There is indeed a problem with your health. What did the Director of Surgery say?"
He Qianhui answered, "The Director of Surgery told that it might be due to the weather being too hot lately, and there’s been a lot happening."
"This has caused a slight disturbance in my bodily functions. They prescribed a lot of dicine and told to co back for a check-up after I’ve taken it all."
"I actually wanted to co directly to you, but you weren’t here when I arrived."
As soon as Zhang Hao heard her description, he knew that he must have been in the operating room at that ti.
"I’m really sorry, I was called by the Director of Surgery to help out again today, so I wasn’t around."
"However, your condition isn’t as serious as I thought. Let see what dicine he prescribed for you."
He Qianhui took out the dicine and Zhang Hao looked at each one, then nodded.
"Not bad, the dicine prescribed is right for your issues. Make sure you take it on ti without missing any doses."
He Qianhui, seeing Zhang Hao so serious, suddenly felt a newfound respect for him.
"This is actually the first ti I’ve seen you this serious. It seems like you care about my health too."
"Nonsense, let’s go ho together."
After Zhang Hao changed his clothes and shed his white coat, he was the very image of a handso young man.
It’s no wonder so many female nurses at the hospital had their eyes on him, but while they had their thoughts,
they all knew he had a girlfriend and didn’t dare to act inappropriately.
As they were walking out, the anesthetist Han Yang happened to co by: "Mr. Zhang is off work."
"Yeah, what about you?" asked Zhang Hao.
"I have surgeries tonight and can’t leave. I just went to buy sothing to eat."
Seeing the bread and milk Han Yang was carrying, it was clear that she had several surgeries, big and small, waiting for her that night.
"You’re working hard, anesthetist."
Han Yang looked up with a smile: "Not at all, it’s all for the patients. I’m off now."
After Han Yang left, Zhang Hao, for so reason, put his arm around He Qianhui’s shoulder.
"I want to eat braised pork ribs tonight, the kind you make. Can you do that?"
He Qianhui leaned her head on Zhang Hao’s shoulder: "Sure, let’s go to the supermarket later to see if there are any ribs left."
Outside the hospital, he was no longer a doctor, just He Qianhui’s boyfriend.
On the drive ho, He Qianhui didn’t forget to take her first dose of dicine for the day.
After taking the dicine, she felt a bit better and not as uncomfortable as she had been at first.
Arriving at the supermarket downstairs, they saw that there were only three ribs left.
He Qianhui thought about how busy Zhang Hao had been all day, possibly even missing a proper lunch, and it wouldn’t be right if his dinner wasn’t good either.
So she bought all three ribs in one go and had the staff cut them into evenly sized pieces.
After buying these items and heading ho, Zhang Hao wanted to help in the kitchen but was pushed out by He Qianhui.
"The two dishes you cooked yesterday were just too awful, so you better not step into the kitchen today. Go take a shower and relax, I’ll call you when dinner is ready."
Zhang Hao objected: "You’re also not feeling well today, I should do it. After all, I’ve been busy all day, what’s a little more ti?"
"Although the food I make isn’t as delicious as yours, it’s not inedible."
The two of them in the kitchen, neither willing to back down, but in the end, He Qianhui won over Zhang Hao.
She bluntly said she had slept all day and feared she would gain another two pounds if she didn’t move around.
She might as well consider cooking a way to lose weight. After all, cleaning and blanching the ribs then putting them in the pressure cooker,
there wasn’t much else to do but wash so vegetables and stir-fry them.
Zhang Hao really couldn’t argue with her and agreed.
After his shower, dinner was almost ready. Zhang Hao ca over to help set the table and even took the opportunity to give her a kiss on the face!
