"The party will end here tonight. I hope that everyone has enjoyed themselves here," Christian reached out and blocked the reporters from going past him. Smiling, he said, "My brother rely left because he has an urgent matter to deal with, so I urge all of you to remain civil. Wendy is still his wife, after all. Please do not forget that she is the eldest daughter-in-law of the Lucas family." His words were ant to be threatening.

The reporters did not dare to offend mbers of the Lucas family. The only reason why they chased after Wendy was because Michael had abandoned her just like that. They believed that his actions were proof of how he did not value her much anyway. At least, this was how outsiders perceived the situation. Hence, they thought that Wendy was pathetic and ridiculous, and they could bully her. It was a good thing that Christian stepped forward, otherwise the reporters would never have allowed Wendy to get away just like that.

...

Jamus had returned from a trip to the bathroom just in ti to see the reporters crowding around Wendy.

Michael was nowhere in sight. Since he did not manage to figure out what was happening in ti, Christian stepped forward to help Wendy before he could. Jamus frowned, feeling strange about everything that had happened tonight. He took out his phone and gave Michael a call.

"Michael, the reporters are bullying your wife," said Jamus in a straightforward manner.

"Why aren’t you helping her?" Michael sounded angry.

"Hey, she’s your wife, why are you asking to help?" Jamus asked doubtfully, "Where exactly did you go? Don’t you know that everyone will mock Wendy for being left behind?"

"I know, but I have no choice," Michael inhaled deeply. "Please help comfort her. I’ll apologize to her when l get back."

"I don’t think she needs to comfort her."

"What do you an?"

"Your younger brother left with her," said Jamus as he gazed at the door. Christian and Wendy were already nowhere to be seen.

"What?!" Michael was raging now, "Why didn’t you stop them?"

Jamus felt amused when he heard Michael lose his temper at him. He said, "How am I supposed to do anything when you were the one who left her here? Also, it’s not that I didn’t want to stop them. I was in the bathroom when everything went down, and by the ti I ca back, it was chaos. There wasn’t enough ti for to do anything."

Michael shut his eyes, pinching the area between his eyebrows. Realizing how unpleasant his tone had been, he said, "In that case, please follow them and make sure that they don’t get to spend ti alone."

"I really need your help," said Michael. Jamus could not possibly reject him.

Christian, on the other hand, caught up with. Wendy after he stopped the reporters from chasing her. He took Wendy’s hand and said "Get in my car."

Wendy did not wish to follow him.

"Do you know what kind of situation you are in?You won’t be able to leave even if you want to when the reporters catch up with us."

Indeed, those reporters could not be held back for long. If Wendy wanted to get rid of them completely, she had to leave this place as soon as possible. She pursed her lips and hesitated for a mont before following Christian’s lead. However, she shook his hand off.

Christian did not harp on that. He continued leading the way for them. Soon enough, they were in his car. As he started driving, he said, "Where do you want to go?"

Wendy smiled bitterly, "Where can I go?"

"You haven’t had dinner, right? Let take you Out for a al."

Wendy did not have any appetite right now, but she did not know where else she could go at this mont. Hence, she allowed Christian to decide for them. After so ti, Christian said, "I can’t believe Michael. What else could he have had to deal with at such an important mont? Why did he have to go? He was only halfway through his speech, but he abandoned you just like that."

Wendy knew that Christian was saying all this just to get a rise out of her. However, that did not make a difference. The outco was still the sa. She lowered her head, allowing her tousled hair to fall around her shoulders and cover her face.

Unable to see her expression, Christian continued, "Don’t be too sad, Wendy, this is just the kind of person that Michael is. He has always treated relationships with indifference."

Wendy thought, does he really?

"He is not indifferent at all to Yvonne," said Wendy as she raised her head and gazed out at the night sky. Snorting, she continued, "Christian, is it true that n cannot tell when the woman standing before them is a btch?"

"A btch?" Christian was puzzled. He said, "What do you an?"

Wendy did not explain much. She only said in a disappointed tone, "Yvonne tried to threaten Michael with her own life. Do you really believe that she would have committed suicide?"

"Suicide?" Christian chuckled. "I think that’s unlikely. Even though I’m not close to Yvonne, she doesn’t seem like soone who would resort to that. This was probably just a ploy to get Michael’s attention."

"Even you can see right through her, so why did Michael fail to do that?" Wendy said quietly as she inhaled sharply.

"I think my brother does know what she is up to, just that he." Christian did not continue. Instead, he acted as if he had blurted sothing he should not have and added, "I’m just speculating."

Even though Wendy did not know what Christian truly wanted from her, she could figure out the intention behind the things that he was telling her right now.

"You can drop off in front," said Wendy. No matter what happened between her and Michael, she knew that she should not get too close to Christian.

"It’s not easy to get a cab here. Do you plan on walking ho?" Christian said, "If you don’t like the things that I’m saying, I can shut up." He did as he had promised and went quiet.

Since Christian refused to stop the car, there was no way that Wendy could get out. Just like that, they arrived at a restaurant with three Michelin stars. Since she did not have any appetite, she planned on leaving from there. Christian said, "Even if you don’t want to eat, you should think of your baby, because you went to such great lengths to protect him. Are you going to torture both yourself and your child just because my brother chose to let you down?"

Christian understood Wendy’s personality well enough to know that she would relent if he brought up the baby. Just as he had expected, she halted.

Taking advantage of the situation, Christian took her hand, and they walked into the restaurant. He handed the nu to Wendy when they were seated at the table and ordered according to his personal preferences when she had seemingly no intention of choosing anything.

Soon, the dishes were served. Christian filled Wendy’s bowl with food as a smile appeared on his face. He said, "Dig in."

As Wendy observed his gesture, she set down her fork. With a sullen face, she said seriously, "Christian, I will tell you the sa thing that I told Michael." After a mont, she continued, "I don’t wish to be a pawn between the two of you anymore. If you think that Michael’s abandonnt of tonight is a chance for you, you are terribly wrong. I am grateful to you for holding the reporters back earlier and helping escape from them. However, your intention is obvious, and I wont fall for it."

Staring at the dishes on the table, Wendy asserted herself in a determined manner, and she said, "No matter what happens between and Michael in the future, I hope that you won’t get any ideas about . You saw for yourself how Yvonne is the most important person to him. If you really want to get revenge on Michael, you should steal Yvonne from him. That is the only thing that will be effective." With that, she stood up to leave.

Christian knew very well who was more important to Michael between Yvonne and Wendy. He was the mastermind behind everything that had happened today. If Yvonne was left to her own devices, all she could co up with were low-level ploys like framing Wendy for sothing she did not do or crying like a baby. Those tricks were no longer effective with Michael.

Since Wendy was under the impression that he was only trying to get close to her to get revenge on Michael, he would deliberately pretend to make that look even more obvious.

At least she would think that he was being honest.

Wendy managed to take two steps before she was t with the sight of Jamus standing before her. When they made eye-contact, Jamus laughed out loud, "Hey, what a coincidence. Fancy seeing you here, Wendy." As he spoke, he touched his head awkwardly. He had in fact followed Christian’s car the entire way here.

Since Michael had asked for his help, he could only agree to it.

Since Wendy had just t Jamus and she did not know him very well, she simply nodded politely, "Are you here for a al?"

Jamus nodded quickly, "This restaurant serves fantastic food. I co here often." When he saw Christian sitting behind her, he waved at him. "Hi, Mr. Lucas. I didn’t expect to see you here too."

Then, he pointed at Christian and Wendy one after another and said, "Did you co here together? Do you mind letting join you since ca alone?"

"I have sothing on so I’m leaving now, please go ahead and enjoy yourselves," said Wendy as she nodded politely again. With that, she walked past Jamus and left the restaurant.

As Jamus watched Wendy leave, he scratched his head with a frown. He thought, should I continue following her? But I’m not even close to her, what can I possibly say to her? It would be awful for things to be awkward between us.

Just as Jamus was contemplating his next step, Christian spoke up calmly, "My brother asked you to co after us, didn’t he?"

Jamus knew that the two brothers did not get along. Hence, he did not find it weird that Christian was able to figure this out, "You should sit down and join . These dishes were just served, but Wendy left without taking a single bite. I don’t want it to go to waste," said Christian. "DoDon’torry, I won’t continue to go after her tonight, so you can stop following her too."

Since Wendy had completely disappeared out of sight, Jamus hesitated for a mont but then joined Christian.

...

When Michael arrived at Yvonne’s apartnt, he reached out to knock on the door only to discover that it was unlocked anyway.

Evidently, she had deliberately left it open for Michael. The mont he entered the apartnt, he saw Yvonne lying on the floor. Her wrist was bleeding, and there was blood all over the floor.

He imdiately rushed over and carried Yvonne in his arms. He said, "Let take you to the hospital."

The truth was that Michael had spent the entire way here wondering if Yvonne was lying to him. Perhaps she never intended to kill herself.

However, he did not dare to leave her alone. If Yvonne’s threats were real and she did end up committing suicide, he would feel like he had let his friend down. It was fortunate that he had made it in ti. Otherwise, Yvonne might really have died from excessive blood loss.

"Michael. You’re... Finally here .." Yvonne reached out to take Michael’s hand. The mont she did, more blood flowed from her wound. She was in so much pain that she felt like she would pass out soon.

Christian was the one who had suggested this fake suicide attempt. When Yvonne first heard his idea, she imdiately felt that it was a good one. However, the more blood flowed from her wound, the more she felt like her life was slowly being drained from her. She had been terrified that Michael might not show up.

She wondered if she would die here. In fact, she was just starting to regret using such an extre thod. But now, as Michael materialized before her eyes, she suddenly felt that everything she had been through was worth it.
