After saying all those things, Christian paused for a while. A self-deprecating smile appeared on his lips. "No, my mother didn’t love him.

"He and my mother had indeed known each other for many years, even earlier than Winnie Quinn.

"My mother had eyes for Anthony because she felt that he was intelligent and promising, but she was also hoping that Anthony would strike it rich in the future.

"If she had truly loved Anthony, it would be impossible for her to still be willing to be with him after knowing that Anthony had married Winnie.

"It was just that Anthony was going after Winnie’s rich family and my mother was going after Anthony’s money.

"Indeed, Anthony had beco rich.

"After he had completely secured MC Enterprise, he beca open in his relationship with my mother.

"My mom was right to place her hopes on Anthony, and he had never let her down financially.

"How hilarious, I have a pair of parents, and I am a bastard who can’t seem to see the light.

"Many tis, I feel that my parents are scoundrels who deserve a terrible death.

"But then again, who am I to talk?

"I’m a bastard who the Lucas family isn’t willing to accept.

"I know why you like Michael. It’s because he’s righteous and kind. The sun is always shining on him.

"? I haven’t seen the light since I was born.

"I want the sun to shine on as well... to be a kind and righteous person.

"But I don’t have the right to.

"Sotis, I’d be especially defiant.

"Why was I born like that? why was I a bastard?

"I even thought before, my mother should have strangled to death the mont I was born.

"With this mindset through the years, you’ll know why I’ve beco like this...

"Say, how could a drug lord possibly lead a normal and peaceful life?

"Just when I thought that I could only live in the darkness my whole life, I t you.

"Wendy, you had no idea, but the first ti I t you, I actually didn’t think that you were very special.

"Back then, I only wanted to snatch everything from Michael.

"As his wife, you’ve beco my target.

"I thought that with my capabilities and charm, you’d slowly fall in love with .

"But I overestimated myself.

"After exhausting all ans, not only did I not make you fall in love with , but I fell in love with you instead.

"The first ti I realized that I was in love with you was on your birthday, when you were in Rheinville City.

"That day, I threw aside all my work and was set on traveling to Rheinsville City to see you, even if it was only to see you from afar.

"I could not accept the truth that I had fallen in love with you, so when you returned from Rheinsville City, I asked Yvonne to destroy your car brake.

"It was a sha that you didn’t die.

"It was also from then on that I realized that I love you. It was just that I was unwilling to admit it.

"Wendy, loving soone is actually pretty painful.

"I really wanted to ask the hypnotist to hypnotize as well... to make forget loving you. I want to be that coldhearted Christian again.

"I know that I don’t deserve you.

"You are... you... you are perfect.

"Even if you pointed a gun at , I realized that I have no way of getting myself to kill you..." Christian reluctantly looked at Wendy’s face. He had said so many things... things that only he could know.

This was the only ti that he let his feelings be known.

...

Wendy Stewart gradually woke up as ti ticked by.

Seeing that her eyelids moved, Christian Lucas imdiately wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes and stood up. "Wendy," he called out softly.

Wendy opened her eyes. She was still feeling a little groggy. Christian quickly reached out to help her as she struggled to sit up.

"You finally woke up," Christian said with a smile.

Wendy looked at the man standing before her. He looked foreign yet familiar at the sa ti. Frowning slightly, she asked, "Who are you?"

"It’s , Christian. I’m your husband, Christian. Don’t you rember?" Christian replied.

"Christian?" Wendy muttered his na under her breath. A voice rang in her mind. It was hollow and ethereal and kept repeating the sa line, "Your husband is Christian Lucas. He’s the person you love the most."

"You really have no mory of ?" The joy on Christian’s face quickly morphed into worry and fear. His acting skills were indeed good.

Wendy continued the conversation, "Did sothing happen to ?"

"You were abducted by Michael Lucas; do you still rember that? You were already unconscious when I found you. To make you fall in love with him, Michael injected you with a serum that could make you lose part of your mory or even distort your mory."

Christian had long prepared his explanation. "Earlier, the doctor ntioned that you may not be able to rember many events and people after you regain consciousness. You may even forget about .

"It seems that the effect of the drug has really materialized. But it’s all right, Wendy.

I will get them to formulate an antidote to restore your mory."

Christian sounded genuinely sincere and worried as he said that. His expression was also impeccable. Wendy nodded as she listened to him.

"I seem to rember parts of it, but I only rember the part where I was kidnapped by Michael Lucas. Why can’t I recall anything else at all?" asked Wendy.

Of course, she would not be able to. These mories were forcefully instilled in her by the hypnotist and did not exist at all.

"It’s okay; it doesn’t matter if you can’t rember." Christian stretched out his arms to hug Wendy and sighed, "As long as you and our baby are well, it doesn’t matter if you rember or not."

"Baby?" Upon hearing that, Wendy pushed Christian away and touched her belly. "Is the baby almost four months old?" she asked.

Wendy still has so recollection of her pregnancy. A mory of her going for a birth check erged in her mind.

"Yes, we are almost four months in," Christian nodded.

Wendy scrutinized Christian’s face again. His face was indeed familiar to her, but she still had many questions. "Why did Michael Lucas kidnap ? Who is he, really?"

"He is a drug lord who is in love with you. He abducted you because he could not have you," Christian lied without blinking.

"Drug lord... " Wendy was not surprised to hear that. Although she could not rember things clearly, she did recall the existence of a certain drug lord.

She blinked in contemplation. Looking at Christian, she frowned slightly and asked again, "Are you really my husband?"

Christian nodded, "Of course, how can this be feigned? It doesn’t matter if you can’t rember now; you will definitely regain your mory over ti. As long as both you and our baby are fine, nothing else matters."

Wendy looked at him with wary in her eyes and nodded after so hesitation.

...

Christian Lucas could tell that Wendy Stewart was still sowhat skeptical.

He sighed and hesitated. Finally, he took off his shirt as if he had co to this decision after much contemplation. Wendy shut her eyes.

"I didn’t want to tell you this because I think these are just my responsibilities as a husband," said Christian.

Wendy slowed opened her eyes upon hearing what Christian said. The wound on his midriff ca into sight. "How did you get that injury?" she imdiately asked with her eyes widened.

On top of the fresh wound on his abdon, there were many old scars on his body.

Wendy had mixed feelings about what she saw.

"I was injured by Michael Lucas when I was rescuing you." Christian looked into Wendy’s eyes and continued, "As your husband, it’s my responsibility to keep you safe."

An image ca up in Wendy’s mind. On a certain street, a man had shielded her with his body and taken a bullet for her. The face in her mory overlapped with Christian’s.

Wendy reached out her trembling hand to gently brush the wound on his chest, "I’m sorry I was the one who caused you this."

"What are you saying? We are one; there’s no saying who is at fault between us.

Besides, I had sworn that I would protect you and our child for the rest of my life," Christian’s tone was very sincere.

"Does it still hurt?" asked Wendy.

Christian smiled and shook his head, "No, it doesn’t. With your care, it doesn’t hurt at all."

Wendy bit her lip, and another picture appeared in her mind. The man in her mory was holding a gun and shot himself in the leg.

His face looked very much like that of Christian’s but was not the sa.

Wendy frowned again. After so hesitation, she decided to pose the question, "Did you injure your leg as well?"

Hearing this, Christian could guess what she had recalled. He got dressed and blinked. "I do have so old wounds on my legs, but they are almost healed by now.

It’s not a problem."

Wendy paused for a mont before asking, "Can I look?"

Christian knew that with her astuteness, she would sense sothing if he did not agree to show her. So, he removed his pants.

There were many scars on Christian’s legs, but Wendy did not spot any gunshot wounds.

"How did you get so many injuries?" she asked.

"It’s all Michael Lucas," Christian continued fabricating lies. "He is a massive drug lord with vicious and ruthless ways. There was a period when I was careless and held captive by him. He had ordered his n to beat up back then."

"Michael Lucas," Wendy had heard this na several tis.

Seeing Wendy lowered her head in contemplation, Christian sighed and said, "Let’s not talk about this for now. You will regain your mory sooner or later, and I will get soone to formulate an antidote for the ti being.

"Are you hungry? Let’s head down for dinner. Dinner is ready in the kitchen; it’s all the dishes you like to eat."

Wendy thought that sothing was amiss, but there was nothing questionable about Christian’s explanation. She was indeed feeling hungry, so she nodded in agreent.

Christian imdiately brought Wendy a coat and put it on for her. Then, he bent over, picked up her shoes, and helped Wendy put them on.

Seeing that Christian was so considerate and gentle, the doubts Wendy had dissipated a little. However, she could not help but feel a little flustered.
