Looking at Todd’s expression, Wendy knew that he was worried for her. She let out a sigh and continued, "Todd, Mr. Woods and I have already fallen out. Christian is busy with the new project and he has no ti nor effort to deal with us.

"This is the best ti for us. Once Christian has a breather, he will definitely co after us. So, we don’t have much ti to spare. If I don’t take the risk now, I am simply giving Christian a chance to breathe.

"After he sails through difficult tis, it’ll be impossible for us to live in peace in the future. We are well aware of Christian’s conduct. By then, it wouldn’t just be the company going bankrupt. We might possibly lose our lives.

"Do you understand, Todd? It’s not that I have not considered the consequences but it’s because I’ve thought it through so thoroughly. I have to do this."

"That is what’s going to happen in the future. In such short ti, Christian won’t have the ti to deal with us. You shouldn’t be worried about these matters. I am useless. I can’t protect you," Todd was still worried about Wendy.

Michael had said the sa line to her before.

Wendy smiled faintly, saying, "I don’t need any of you to protect . Plus, it is not ti for us to talk about who would be protecting whom."

The mont Wendy said ’any of you’, Todd clearly knew what she ant.

His eyes grew somber.

Todd couldn’t help but laugh to himself, saying, "You’re right."

Wendy saw Todd’s expression and she thought he was disappointed because he failed to convince her. So, she didn’t bother much about it.

She took a deep breath and said, "I am not acting on impulse. I’ve thought about it carefully for a very long ti. Don’t worry. I am not dumb. I will act according to circumstances. On top of that, didn’t you say that you are going to send soone to protect in secret? I will be fine. Don’t worry."

"If you really want to do this, you have to promise that you have to inform ahead of ti, every ti, before you see Clent," Todd failed to stop Wendy so he can now only try his best to ensure her safety.

"Alright, I promise," Wendy nodded in agreent.

"No way. I have to send more manpower to protect you. I sent five bodyguards back then. I should add another ten for you," Todd thought and said.

"That’s too many..." Wendy hadn’t known that Todd sent five bodyguards to protect her back then.

She thought Todd only sent a man or two.

"Don’t add any more bodyguards for now. Five is more than enough. Any more and it would be too noticeable," Wendy said.

"Don’t worry. All those I’ve hired are top tier. They are good at hiding. No one would notice them. Plus, they won’t show themselves unless you are in trouble," Todd insisted.

Wendy sighed and said, "Even so, you shouldn’t add so many of them. I know that you are worried about my safety but five is more than enough. I am not going to fight Clent."

Todd wanted to say sothing but Wendy chuckled and continued, "Let’s discuss how to approach Clent."

Wendy then got up and entered her room.

She took out her laptop. She turned on her laptop and tapped open the emails he sent her about Clent.

Wendy asked, "Are you busy this morning? If you have any work arrangents, go ahead and do your thing. There’s no hurry. We can discuss this when you are free."

"I’m free." No matter how busy Todd was, it was impossible for him to head to work now.

To him, Wendy was very important.

...

Wendy and Todd had a lengthy discussion in the living room.

Zen had already left her house. So, Wendy had no scruples when she spoke at ho.

The ti flew by and it was noon.

Zess was already done preparing lunch.

She saw that Wendy and Todd were still in a serious discussion. So, she walked over softly and asked, "Do you want to have lunch first? It is already noon."

Wendy heard Zess and she took a look at the ti. She let out a breath and stood up, saying with a smile, "It’s already noon! I am feeling a little hungry indeed."

Wendy rubbed her stomach, telling Todd, "Let’s have lunch."

Needless to say, Todd, of course, nodded in agreent.

He would never refuse her invitation, out of courtesy.

Jake and Leah were at school and they wouldn’t be back by noon.

There were only three of them eating lunch together at ho.

"It’s a feast! Thank you for preparing this, Zess." Todd saw the table of dishes and took a whiff of the delicious aroma. He felt even hungrier then.

"You flatter . As long as you enjoy eating," Zess said smilingly, serving them a bowl of rice each.

"Of course I do! Your cooking is amazing!" Todd praised.

"Wendy’s cooking is good. Make her cook for you next ti," Zess said, looking back and forth at Wendy and Todd.

Zess was actually really fond of Todd. She thought it was a good if Wendy and Todd were to be together.

But Zess knew that Wendy had always liked Michael. Zess didn’t see Michael much and she didn’t know what he was like as a person. But in her mind, she had always wished for Wendy to choose Todd instead. However, only the people involved could decide for themselves when it ca to feelings.

So, Zess hardly gave Wendy any advice about it.

"Sure. I have to try Corrine’s cooking if I have a chance to," Todd said. He smiled, looking at Wendy with anticipation.

"Haven’t you tried my cooking?" Wendy asked, frowning. She seed to be surprised herself.

She rembered that Todd used to co to her house for als.

Todd had really never eaten Wendy’s cooking.

She used to be very busy with work. As a friend, Todd only ca to her house for als on occasion.

Plus, it had always been Zess cooking the als.

Wendy used to be so busy at work that she slept over in the office. She wouldn’t have had ti to cook.

On the contrary, Todd cooked for Wendy quite a number of tis.

Previously, he even ca to her house just to make breakfast for her.

Wendy looked at Todd, shaking her head. She smiled, saying, "I am not a good cook.

You’d know since you hardly see cook."

"Don’t be modest. Jake and Leah are both very picky eaters but they love Wendy’s cooking. You can totally tell how good her cooking is," Zess said.

"I feel like trying her cooking even more then," Todd was interested in finding out Wendy’s standard of cooking. He looked sideways at Wendy, asking with a cheeky smile, "I wonder if I could have the honor?"

"Of course you can. Zess has already made lunch today. So, forget it. I will cook for you so other ti," Wendy replied.

"Alright. Deal! You owe a al then." Todd began eating happily when he received Wendy’s answer.

After the al, Zess cleaned up the table while Wendy stood up and told Todd, "Our discussion is pretty much done. I guess you should head to the office in the afternoon. We will keep in touch via our phones if there’s anything else."

Todd nodded. He looked at the ti and said, "Alright, I have a eting later. I shall make a move first. You have to call if there’s anything. Do you hear ?"

"Don’t worry." Wendy walked Todd to the door and waved at him, smiling.

...

After Todd left, Wendy sat in the living room alone, looking rather glum.

Although she reassured Todd that she would be fine and that she would take care of herself, the fear in her heart wasn’t any less.

It was rely because she didn’t have any other option.

There were so things that only Wendy could attend to and resolve herself.

For example, the matter with Clent.

Wendy looked through Clent’s information. He liked beautiful won with Asian features.

He thought that Asian won had smooth delicate skin and petite figures, which could well trigger a man’s urge to protect.

In the information that Todd provided Wendy with, that was the highlight.

It was also the reason why Wendy wanted to get close to Clent on her own.

It would really be a challenge if Todd wanted to look for a beautiful Asian woman in Rheinsville who was both smart and cooperative.

So, Wendy was the most suitable candidate on hand.

Zess prepared a fruit platter. She saw that Wendy was seated on the sofa, laden with anxiety.

She then walked to Wendy and placed the fruit platter on the coffee table, asking gently, "Are you dealing with a thorny matter?"

When Wendy and Todd were talking in the living room, Zess never asked any questions.

Todd had left now and Zess saw that Wendy looked in low spirits so she expressed her concern.

Wendy turned to the side and looked at Zess. She lifted the corners of her lips and forced a smile, replying, "Nothing. I can take care of it."

Wendy didn’t tell Zess not because she didn’t trust her but because she didn’t want Zess to be bothered with these matters.

Zess couldn’t help her much.

Wendy didn’t tell Zess and Zess didn’t pursue it any further as well.

Wendy hung her head low and pursed her lips tight. She then exhorted Zess in a solemn tone, "Zess, why don’t you take the two children along with you to Lake City?"

The last ti Michael had told Wendy to bring her children back to Lake City but she refused.

Because she wanted to stay back in Rheinsville and find an opportunity to take down Christian.

Clent was the breaking point.

But it was too dangerous.

Wendy was going to deal with a person involved in illegal activities personally and she couldn’t even ensure her own safety.

If she were to be exposed, she might possibly drag her family and friends down with her.

Wendy’s family in Rheinsville were the two children and Zess.

As for Todd, it was impossible for him to leave Rheinsville because his company was here.

But if Zess and her two children were to leave Rheinsville and head to Lake City, they would at least be safer than following her.

Lake City was Michael’s territory after all.

Zess heard Wendy’s suggestion and her face grew grave.

She quickly grabbed Wendy’s hand and said solemnly, "Wendy, did sothing happen?"

Although Zess never questioned Wendy about her things, she knew of the drama that happened recently.

Wendy suddenly told her to take the two children and leave Rheinsville. It was obvious that Wendy was planning for a worst-case scenario.

Wendy smiled. She patted the back of Zess’s hand, reassuring her, "Nothing. Don’t worry. I just think that it is only a matter of ti before Jake and Leah must go back to Lake City. You might as well head back early and familiarize yourselves with the environnt in Lake City."

However, Zess didn’t believe what Wendy said.

"Wendy, I didn’t want to ask you at first. But as you told to leave with the two children, you have to at least let know what you are up to next and what could happen," Zess said, gripping Wendy’s hand tightly. Her eyes were fueled with anxiety.

...

Wendy knew it was impossible to not make it clear to Zess.

Wendy let out a sigh and said, "I do have sothing to do. I am not going to tell you exactly what it is. It is inconvenient for to do it if you were to stay back in Rheinsville. I would worry about the family. Do you understand what I an?"

"Is it very dangerous?" Zess didn’t care what Wendy was going to do, but she was worried for Wendy’s safety.

As Zess looked at her anxiously, Wendy pursed her lips tightly and nodded in the end.

Zess was worried that Wendy would be alone. "I will stay back then. I will stay back and take care of you. Although I can’t help you much, I can still cook you als and clean the house. It is indeed inconvenient for the two children to stay here in Rheinsville. You can just send them away. Mr. Lucas is Jake and Leah’s biological father. He wouldn’t mistreat them."

Wendy shook her head, obviously disagreeing with Zess. She said, "No, you shall leave with them. I don’t need you to take care of . My two children need you."

"But, Wendy, it is too dangerous for you to stay here alone," Zess said.

"You can’t help much if you stay here. Like you said earlier, you can only cook als and clean up the house for . You can’t help with anything else. It is a special period. These are all trivial matters. If you were to stay back, I have to worry for another extra person," Wendy analyzed.

Zess knew what Wendy said made sense.

She couldn’t help much indeed.

She couldn’t understand what was going on.

"Zess..." Wendy held her hand and sighed. She then continued, "I know that you are worried for . But the biggest help you can provide with is to leave with my two children. Jake and Leah had lived in Rheinsville all their lives. Now, they have to live in Lake City suddenly and they would definitely feel uneasy. With you around to take care of them, it could put my mind at ease."

"This..." Zess didn’t know what to say.

"It’s final," Wendy said. She took a deep breath and picked up the fruit platter from the table. She then handed a piece to Zess, saying, "It is better to get it done earlier than later. I will pick Jake and Leah up from school later. I will complete the procedure to transfer schools as well."

The procedure to transfer them was easy.

With Michael’s identity and status in Lake City, it would be impossible for the children to have nowhere to go to school, with or without the procedure done.

Zess sighed and said, "As you have already decided, I will give you my full support.

But Wendy, you have to be really careful."

"I will. don’t worry," Wendy reassured Zess, lifting the corners of her lips and smiled faintly.

Wendy let out a breath of relief after the decision had been made.

In the afternoon, Wendy went to pick Jake and Leah up from school personally.

Zess had nothing much to do. So, she went along with Wendy.

After the procedure was done, Wendy waited for them to be done with school.

Ti ticked by slowly.

After school, Jake and Leah were excited to see their mom had co to pick them up.

The two of them ran into Wendy’s embrace, chuckling.

"Mommy, why did you co and pick us up today?" Leah asked with a wide smile, showing her two snaggleteeth, looking extrely adorable.

"Mommy doesn’t have much to do today. So, I ca to pick you up. Are you happy?"

Wendy asked, holding her children’s hands on each side.

Jake and Leah nodded and replied simultaneously, "Yes."

Wendy brought her two children to the car park. Leah asked confusedly, "Mommy, you drove here today?"
