"Corrine, I contacted all the directors. Half of the directors agreed to join the board eting. So were too busy or far away to co. However, the total shareholding of these directors exceeded 68 percent, and they have absolute power to make the decision. Therefore, you do not have to worry about the validity of the eting," Timothy said, "the eting ti is 9 p.m. tomorrow. Please check if it works for you."
"Is it 9 p.m. tomorrow?" Wendy nodded. "Fine by ."
"Okay, see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
After a brief conversation, Wendy hung up the phone.
Wendy was ready to join the board of directors long before.
The next day ca soon.
Wendy dressed up and picked up the jewelry in her box.
This jewelry is not a simple one.
It was the latest surveillance cara that Wendy asked Michael to prepare it for her so ti ago.
In this necklace, there was a large diamond in the middle and many small diamonds around it. In one of the diamonds, there was a hidden micro cara.
Putting on the necklace, Wendy stood in front of the mirror and looked at herself carefully. There was nothing unusual.
"All done?" Todd asked.
"Yes." Wendy picked up her bag and walked out of the room.
Todd looked at Wendy, who had been well dressed and pretty, and a trace of worries arose between his eyebrows.
"Let’s go. I will drive you to HG Enterprise," Todd said.
When the two got in the car together, Todd was still worried. "Corrine, are you really going to participate in the board eting?"
Until now, Todd still did not want Wendy to take risks.
Unfortunately, he knew very well that Wendy’s answer was yes.
Sure enough, Wendy nodded.
"And the surveillance cara you are carrying can pass the inspection?" Todd asked.
"Michael said that it was difficult to be detected," Wendy pursed her lips, stayed silent for a while, and said, "allegedly, he had soone researched and developed it in particular, so there should not be a big problem. Besides, it is just a board eting. In general, how can the inspection be so precise? If the inspection is really cautious and ticulous, I can question Mr. Woods at once if he still does not trust . At that ti, I could rely pull a long face and leave. I do not think Mr. Woods may dare to go too far."
"You must pay attention to safety. I will wait for you at HG Enterprise until you finish the board eting," Todd said.
"Okay." Wendy nodded and did not refuse Todd.
After all, it was indeed risky.
The car quickly arrived at HG Enterprise.
It was already 8:30 p.m.
Wendy and Todd went directly to Timothy’s office.
Timothy sat on the couch as if waiting for them.
"There you are," Timothy glanced at Todd and said, "but Todd, you cannot co with us."
"I understand. I will wait for you two here," Todd nodded and said.
"There is still half an hour, Mr. Woods. Do we need to prepare anything in advance?"
Wendy asked, "or it is better to go there on ti."
"We need to go now," Timothy picked up the phone and car key on the table, stood up, and said, "I am just waiting for you."
"Let’s go then." Wendy followed Timothy.
Following Timothy into the elevator, Wendy found that the elevator was going down.
She frowned and asked, "Mr. Woods, the place for our eting is downstairs?
Nonetheless, isn’t the eting room supposed to be upstairs?"
...
"The eting room is not in HG Enterprise," Timothy said.
"Not in HG Enterprise?" Wendy was puzzled and asked, "How could the board of directors of HG Enterprise gather elsewhere but not in the company?"
"HG Enterprise is not a small company, and the directors pay more attention to their privacy. Therefore, the location of the board eting changes every ti. It is also to avoid HG Enterprise’s internal etings known by others, in case soone sneaks into the eting room in advance to do sothing, you know," Timothy said.
"This is the first ti you have participated in the board eting of HG Enterprise.
You will know its model if you attend a few more tis."
"This is too much emphasis on privacy," Wendy deliberately smiled and said, "MC Enterprise is not a small company either. When I cooperated with MC Enterprise as the head of HG Enterprise before, I also participated in MC Enterprise’s board eting. It was seemingly not such a hassle."
"Maybe the policies are different. It is a quite common way of doing things in Rheinsville City," Timothy explained casually.
Common? It was HG Enterprise that tended to be so special.
However, Wendy said nothing on the surface.
Timothy personally drove for twenty minutes and went outside the urban area.
It was relatively remote here, and at this point, there were not many people on the road.
The car stopped in front of a villa.
Wendy got out of the car and frowned as she looked at the villa in front of her.
It was probably a villa owned by HG Enterprise.
"This ti, we are holding the board eting here." Timothy made a please gesture.
"This way."
Wendy walked towards the gate.
However, at the door, soone stopped them.
Timothy went up first, taking off his coat, watch, and cellphone.
The person at the door was holding a detector, looking for sothing on Timothy.
After a while, as no problem ca up, he made a please gesture and let Timothy in.
"Does it take so much preparation to hold a board eting?" Wendy said with a smile, "how can this be the sa as the etups of the gang leaders?"
The words ’gang’ made Timothy frown.
He looked solemn and said, "This is the convention of HG Enterprise. I am acting cooperative. You should do the sa."
Wendy was a little worried about the necklace worn on her neck.
Michael said that it was the latest model of a hidden cara, which general detectors could not detect.
According to these procedures, it was certainly not an ordinary inspection.
If her necklace got detected, Wendy could not explain it.
When the ti ca, she would be in great danger.
Therefore, Wendy said as per her original plan, "Mr. Woods, didn’t you deliberately set it up to take precaution against ? Don’t try to fool . It is not that I do not know what a board eting is. For such action of HG Enterprise, I am seeing and hearing it for the first ti. If you really don’t believe , why do you pretend to let attend the board eting? Since there are so many rules in HG Enterprise, as a smaller designer, I am out of your league. Go to the eting on your own. I am not going to ask for embarrassnt."
With that said, Wendy turned and walked out, looking furious.
"Corrine..." Timothy imdiately caught up and stretched out his hand to hold Wendy, accompanied by a smiling face. "You see, I have already gone through the inspection. It does not hurt to do a quick check that only takes a few seconds. As these are all the latest detectors, we can enter soon if there is nothing wrong."
"So, you still an to doubt ." Wendy sneered and looked at Timothy.
"I don’t doubt you. It’s just the rules," Timothy was helpless and explained again, "everyone who attends the board eting must go through the inspection. There is no exception."
...
"Mr. Woods, do you think I will believe what you said?" Wendy glanced at the bodyguard standing at the door. "The latest detector? Do you suspect that I will carry a bug or a surveillance cara? I have never heard of any company that needs these procedures to attend a board eting. It is an insult to ."
"Corrine..." Timothy had to be patient and persuaded her over and over again. "The rule is not only against you, but every director must go through it. As the chairman of the board, even I have no exception. It is also for the personal safety of all directors, including you."
"For the personal safety?" Wendy frowned and asked. "Is there any inherent risk when participating in the board eting of HG Enterprise?"
"That is not what I ant..." Timothy did not know how to explain, feeling that the more he explained, the less his statents made sense. "Just in case sothing happens."
"Mr. Woods, based on your action, I only have two thoughts," Wendy said.
Timothy did not talk as if waiting for Wendy to continue.
"One is that you suspect and set up this kind of inspection specifically. The second is that the board eting of HG Enterprise is not accessible to ordinary people. Sothing or soone inside has to be kept secret from the outside world," Wendy said, "except for these two points, I cannot think of other reasons."
"Neither of the two reasons is true. It is just for everyone’s safety." Timothy was really helpless.
"It seems that Mr. Woods still does not want to tell the truth. Forget about it. I do not think I need to walk in anymore." Wendy threatened Timothy again. "I am not going to attend the board eting. What’s more, please do not notify of anything about HG Enterprise in the future."
Seeing Wendy turning away again, Timothy was really stressed out.
In the end, he shouted to Wendy, trying to stop her from leaving. "Corrine, please wait a mont..."
Wendy was quite cooperative and stopped.
"It was not that set the rule, therefore I cannot decide on my own," Timothy looked at Wendy’s back and said, "give a few minutes. I will ask the directors for their opinions, okay?"
Wendy turned around, looked at Timothy again, and stayed silent for a while before saying yes to him.
Under Wendy’s gaze, Timothy took out his cellphone.
It was just that he did not ask any directors’ but Christian’s opinions.
It was inconvenient to call in front of Wendy, so he turned around and walked a long distance to ensure that Wendy could not hear his voice. Then Timothy dialled Christian’s number.
Soon, the phone got through, and Timothy briefly explained the matter. "Corrine did not accept the inspection, saying that I did not trust her, and it was an insult to her.
Can we just let her in without the inspection?"
"No. If we don’t check, who knows whether Wendy has anything with her." Christian refused.
He initially suspected Wendy, and he was even more worried if she was exempt from the inspection.
"However, she is pretty tough-minded," Timothy said in a low voice, "actually, I can understand Corrine’s feelings. If she is really wronged by us, she certainly will not accept such an inspection. In addition, she will presu that we have specifically got sothing against her and set up the inspection."
"What you said is an assumption. There is another possibility, one with a great likelihood that Wendy deliberately used this pretext to avoid inspection," Christian said.
...
"I know, but we have no other choice," Timothy was still giving the sa answer.
"Christian, if we had a choice, do we still need to play along with Corrine?"
Christian closed his eyes on the other end of the phone. He knew that he had no choice too.
However, he felt horrible to be led by the nose and could not do anything at all.
In the past, he was always the one who led other’s noses.
"Trust , Christian. My choice is definitely for HG Enterprise’s good," persuaded Timothy hoping that Christian would agree with him.
After so ti, Christian finally compromised. "Do as you say then. However, you have to pay more attention to every single movent that she takes."
"Rest assured. I know what to do."
Once he obtained Christian’s approval, Timothy hung up the phone.
He took a deep breath as he put aside his fretful feeling. He smiled and turned around to look at Wendy. Then, he approached her and said, "You may proceed to go in without the inspection."
When she heard what Timothy had said, Wendy felt more relaxed.
Wendy then walked behind Timothy as they proceeded.
"No inspection needed," said Timothy to the person at the door.
The bodyguard nodded as he invited them in.
Wendy then said on purpose, "So, Mr. Woods, you still have the final call, right?"
"I... " Timothy wanted to explain that it was because the mbers of the board eting had agreed to it.
However, he was the chairman of the board.
Therefore, he could not tell Wendy that Christian was the one who made the final call.
Wendy would not believe it for sure if he said so.
So, he might as well not further explain it.
After all, Wendy did not turn around and walk away just like that.
Wendy followed Timothy step by step closer to the eting venue.
He brought Wendy to the second floor.
Wendy took a good look at the villa. She kept turning around on purpose so that the pin-hole cara in her necklace could capture every corner in the villa.
However, she could not be too obvious. She was sure that Christian would have them captured under the surveillance cara too.
"The eting room is on the third floor. Most of the directors are already inside the room," said Timothy to Wendy, who was standing next to him.
Before Wendy could say anything, Timothy’s phone rang again.
He suddenly halted.
He took out his phone and took a glance at the screen. Then, he answered it imdiately.
"Speak right away if there are any important matters. Or else, call back after one hour." The call was from Timothy’s assistant.
He knew that Timothy was attending the board eting tonight. He would never call him at this hour if it was not sothing important.
Wendy stood a distance away from Timothy. She could not hear their conversation.
She did not know what they were talking about.
However, she could feel that Timothy’s gaze was kind of weird.
As if he was suspecting and angry about sothing.
"Got it," Timothy hung up the call as soon as he finished his words.
Wendy saw his ghastly face, so she asked, "Is there anything wrong, Mr. Woods?"
Wendy lifted her head slightly as she looked at the eting room above. She could not contain herself any longer.
After all the wait, she could finally attend the board eting.
She had got everything prepared.
However, she had a bad feeling about it at that mont.
All because of that call Timothy had just received.
After Timothy hung up the call, his gaze towards Wendy looked completely different.
"What happened?" Wendy asked Timothy again when he remained silent.
