Yonina had been waiting for Wendy’s reply since she sent her the email.
However, two hours had passed and still no call or email from Wendy.
Michael, Yonina, and Mr. York were worried.
Yonina looked at Michael’s gloomy face and tried to comfort him, "No worries. She’s still probably working. It must be difficult for Wendy to log in to her personal email using a company-issued computer."
"I’m not worried about that," Michael replied, though he understood Yonina’s point.
Yonina knew what Michael was indicating. With a sigh, she continued, "If only one director from HG Enterprise was involved in criminal activities, it might just be an isolated case. Rheinsville City has different laws from Lake City. One can legally own a gun in Rheinsville City. Hence, you don’t need to worry too much."
Yonina tried to be as optimistic as she could.
"I have been thinking before, how could Christian beco the boss behind HG Enterprise when he was alone abroad?" Michael expressed his thoughts. "I’m afraid that more than one director is involved in the cri. Even if the law of Rheinsville City is different from Lake City, for a person who has nothing, the quickest way to go upward is to break the law."
"Don’t overthink it. Let’s wait for Wendy’s reply and then discuss what to do." Yonina knew Michael’s concerns.
He was afraid of HG Enterprise’s severe involvent in cris. In this case, once Wendy exposed herself or was no longer useful to HG Enterprise, she would be in great danger.
Everything Michael did was to protect Wendy, even if he deliberately deceived her.
He eventually realized that HG Enterprise was the most dangerous place.
It was too late for him to regret it.
He felt he could use an undo button right now.
Yonina looked at the ti. "It is only 1 AM, and it should be around 2 PM in Rheinsville City. There are still three or four hours before work ends. In case she needs to work overti, it may be even later," she explained. "If so, let’s go ho and take so rest first while waiting for Wendy’s reply."
"I won’t be able to sleep." Michael shook his head. "You can leave first and have a rest."
"It is useless for you to wait here. Wendy has not got off work yet. Besides, you were discharged from the hospital not long ago. Do you want to be back again?" Yonina looked at Michael worriedly.
"It’s the sa when I’m back ho. I would better get more work done here."
In this situation, how could Michael still sleep?
"Well, I’m a little sleepy." Yonina yawned. "Then I’ll co back tomorrow."
Yonina was about to leave when Michael stopped her. "You cannot go."
"Mr. Lucas, it’s fine if you don’t want to go ho and sleep. However, don’t tell that I must accompany you here and wait." Yonina glanced at Mr. York, who dared not say anything. "You have to be more humane at work. Mr. York also needs to rest."
"Wendy will neither take the initiative to contact now nor answer my calls. She will only contact you," Michael said. "Please wait here with so I’ll know when Wendy calls you."
"No way, Mr. Lucas." Yonina’s eyes widened.
She wanted to say sothing, but Michael pointed to the lounge. "Go ahead and take a rest. There is a bed inside."
....
Wendy was busy with work all day, and it was about 10 PM when she got ho.
In Lake City, it was about 9 AM.
Wendy was exhausted and took a hot bath as soon as she got ho.
However, it was so cozy that she fell asleep while soaking in the tub.
If it hadn’t been for Zess who noticed that she had been in the bathroom for too long, Wendy wouldn’t realize she had been asleep. She was awakened by Zess’s relentless knocking on the door.
Wendy got dressed and lay on the big bed. It didn’t take long before she fell asleep again.
She was overworked these past few days and would be asleep in seconds.
Wendy also forgot about Yonina calling her today.
However, Michael, who had waited all night in Lake City, was becoming increasingly anxious.
He looked at the clock.
It was already over 10 PM at Rheinsville City. Could it be that Wendy still had not returned ho yet?
Michael could not help it. He took out his phone and dialed Wendy’s number.
Wendy got awakened by the ringing and saw that it was Michael calling. In a daze, she rejected the call and went back to sleep.
Hearing the call got dismissed, Michael got more impatient. He ran into the lounge and reached out to knock on the door. "Ti to get up. Quick!"
Yonina slept late last night. She managed to sleep soundly since Michael’s office had top-of-the-line soundproofing.
When Yonina heard Michael’s voice, she looked at the ti, got up, and did so stretching. "Oh, I did not realize it was so late..."
Yonina yawned and asked, "Did Wendy call you?"
"I called her, but she didn’t answer. Call her now" Michael urged, "If she wasn’t ho yet, you should remind her that she has to rest too."
"Mr. Lucas, it seems that you still have to rely on ." Yonina laughed at Michael. "Let’s wait and see. If I call her, she’ll take it for sure."
Seeing Yonina’s smug look, Michael held back his temper and tried not to be annoyed.
At this ti, it would be good news as long as Wendy answered the phone.
Yonina looked for her phone and called Wendy.
Wendy was about to fall asleep before getting awakened again.
She was getting annoyed. Seeing that it was Yonina calling, she initially wanted to dismiss the call. Then she rembered that Yonina had also called her during the day and thought that she must have sothing important to say.
Picking up the phone, Wendy yawned. "Hey, Ms. Collins..."
Hearing Wendy’s voice over the phone, Yonina gave Michael a triumphant look.
Michael did not have ti for Yonina’s teasing. He pointed to the phone and whispered, "Get to the point."
"Wendy, are you back ho?" Yonina heard Wendy yawn and realized that she got awakened by the call. She apologized out of courtesy.
"Yeah, you called twice today. Let’s get down to business."
"I sent an email to your secret account. Have you seen it?" Yonina guessed that Wendy had not read it yet. Otherwise, Wendy would have contacted her as soon as possible.
"Not yet." Wendy beca alert when she heard Yonina’s words. She got up and turned on the computer.
After quickly logging in to the account, Wendy said, "I’m checking it now."
Wendy opened Yonina’s email. She couldn’t believe her eyes as she read through its content.
What she learned shook her.
"Are you sure of the veracity of this information?" Wendy asked cautiously.
"Yes." Yonina nodded, and then she realized that Wendy could not see her on the phone. "Michael asked Mr. York to investigate. There should not be a problem with its veracity."
"It was unexpected that HG Enterprise has a director involved in gangs. If so, is it possible that the other directors are involved as well?" Wendy analyzed the situation carefully. "As for other companies, a director’s involvent in gangs might be an isolated case.
"But HG Enterprise is not an ordinary company, and we have never found if Christian was involved.
"Moreover, when Todd asked HG Enterprise for his share of equity, he was refused. That’s why Todd fell out with the company.
"However, I asked Todd about it and deduced that the reason he fell out with HG Enterprise had nothing to do with equity.
"Furthermore, although I have now obtained the equity from HG Enterprise, it was my ntor, Mr. Timothy Woods, that signed the equity agreent on behalf of the board of directors.
"Up to now, I have not seen any other directors of HG Enterprise except Mr. Woods.
"In other words, HG Enterprise did not want to be on the board of directors at all."
Wendy had everything figured out.
Knowing that Wendy shared the sa thoughts as him, Michael quickly took the phone over and said, "Wendy, we thought the sa."
"I’m afraid that all board mbers of HG Enterprise do not have a clean history, especially Christian.
"However, since Christian has been sly with his dealings for so many years, it won’t so easy for us to implicate him.
"And before we find out everything that will involve Christian, you are in a situation even more dangerous than that we have previously expected."
Hearing Michael’s voice, Wendy said coldly, "Give the phone to Yonina."
"Wendy, I..." Michael could only do what he’s told.
Wendy would not listen to him at all. "I will only talk to Yonina. If there is anything, just let her tell ."
Yonina could hear everything Wendy had said. Michael switched the phone to speaker mode since the beginning of their conversation.
Yonina snatched the phone from Michael and said, "It’s , Wendy. Let’s talk."
Wendy breathed heavily on the phone and then said, "Please try to check other people on the list. Now that you know that Clent is a director of HG Enterprise, I will also do so digging and see if I can find any useful information from him."
"No!" Michael dismissed Wendy’s plan. "You cannot take risks. Since you knew that Clent was involved in a cri, it is too dangerous for you to get close to him. You have already got his information. Once he finds out that you’re investigating him, you will be in danger. Moreover, you are in Rheinsville City. If sothing happens, I will not be able to save you in ti."
"Ms. Collins, could you do a favor and find a place where you can be alone?" Michael’s words sohow rendered Wendy speechless.
Although he was concerned about Wendy, there seed to be no better alternative at present.
Michael shook his head at Yonina.
Yonina understood what he ant. She mouthed quietly, "Then you are supposed to keep quiet, okay?"
Michael nodded obediently.
Yonina deliberately walked a few steps around and then said to Wendy on the phone, "Okay for now."
"I also need your help," Wendy said. "I emailed you before that HG Enterprise had asked to release the second collection in advance. It was a bit unusual.
"Christian’s goal is a quick capital return, and then he will use the money in the bidding.
"I will send you soone’s personal information, and you need to buy him off within five days.
"It is not convenient for to step in, so I need your help."
