Dr. Lee continued to chat with Wendy regarding her condition before finally prescribing so dication that would target her symptoms. By the ti Dr. Lee was done, the attending doctor who had helped with the bandage and his assistant had already left.
Sitting on a chair, Mrs. Lucas said with a smile, "No matter what, it’s good enough that your eyes have recovered. Whether your mory cos back or not is not as important."
Mary nodded in agreent. "That’s right. Wendy, you don’t have to keep trying to rember. The doctor says your mory will return in ti."
She was worried about her daughter. She worried that Wendy would again suffer excruciating headaches whenever she tried to recall sothing.
To Wendy, she hadn’t felt that recovering her mory was important before she saw Michael’s face. After seeing Michael, she wanted to rember the past too. She did not want Michael to be the only one who had their mories, good or bad.
All Wendy had was the mory from the period after her accident, where Michael treated her like she was the most important thing in his life.
If she could not rember the past, it would be really unfair to Michael.
The group remained in Wendy’s room, chit-chatting about random topics. In that ti, Michael answered a few phone calls. He had pushed back all his work appointnts for the day. He handed off whatever he could to Mr. York.
Today was the first day that Wendy could see, and he wanted to spend the day with her.
Wendy realized that he was insisting on accompanying her even though he was so busy and felt bad. "You should go to work. There are so many people accompanying . You don’t have to worry. I’m fine now and can be discharged tomorrow. You can’t possibly stay with 24/7 and not go to work."
"But..."
Before Michael could protest, Wendy gave him a gentle little shove, "Get going."
It was true that Michael had many matters to attend to. Since there were so many people accompanying her, his mind was more at ease.
There was a client that insisted on eting him personally. He said he would not sign the contract unless Michael t him in person. Michael had no choice but to go to him. He closed the deal successfully and imdiately returned to the hospital.
Just as Michael exited the elevator, he saw a familiar figure. It was Zen.
Zen did not head toward the elevator, but instead went round a corner and into another hospital room.
Michael frowned. He thought it was strange that Zen was still loitering around the hospital after she was done visiting Wendy.
’What was she up to?’
He was just about to follow her to find out what she was doing when he saw her exit the room with Dr. Lee by her side. They seed deep in discussion.
As they were headed his way, Michael turned and stood inconspicuously next to the wall. So nurses who were passing by blocked him from view.
Zen did not notice Michael standing there.
When the pair approached, Michael heard Zen say, "Dr. Lee, I would like to ask about Wendy’s condition."
"We have already discussed this at length earlier in her room. Mrs. Lucas is physically healthy. Since we have already removed the bandage from her eyes, we just need to observe her for another night before discharging her tomorrow," Dr. Lee explained.
"As for her mory, all I can do is offer so support."
"Based on her current situation, will she recover all her mory soon?" Zen asked insistently.
"I cannot tell you exactly when she will rember everything. However, as long as Mrs. Lucas remains optimistic, it will all co back sooner or later." Dr. Lee t Zen’s gaze.
"Actually, so mories aren’t that important. It doesn’t matter even if it takes a long ti to co back."
"In that case, is there any way to let her never rember?" This was Zen’s true intention.
Michael was not the only one who was afraid of what would happen when Wendy rembered everything. Zen was afraid, too. She didn’t want Wendy to recover her mories.
"Never rember?" Dr. Lee did not understand Zen’s question. "What do you an?"
Zen smiled and said, "Since the patient has blocked those mories as a ans of self-preservation, it ans those mories are harmful to her. In that case, isn’t it better if she never rembers?"
"You may say that, but regardless of whether our mories are good or bad, they are a part of us, a part of who we are," Dr. Lee disagreed. "My job is to help Mrs. Lucas recover as soon as possible."
"Dr. Lee, may I suggest..." Zen insisted quietly.
Michael was surprised by Zen’s words.
’Why has she gone to Dr. Lee privately? Why does she hope that Wendy won’t rember the past?’
He walked closer and stopped in front of Zen. He then questioned her, "Wendy thinks of you as her best friend! How could you do sothing like this to her, huh, Zen?"
Zen had not expected Michael to suddenly appear. However, she did not seem discomfited by his appearance.
Zen looked at Michael calmly. "Mr. Lucas, since you already know what I am trying to do, I feel that you and I can have a good chat."
"I have nothing to talk to you about," Michael replied coldly. "I am very thankful that you made the ti to visit Wendy every day, but it seems we have different loyalties. Wendy is well now, so I don’t think there is a need for you to contact her again. If we ever clash on the business front one day, I will not go easy on you."
"Mr. Lucas should first listen to what I have to say." Zen took a deep breath and said, "I admit I have selfish reasons for not wanting Wendy to rember.
"However, my reasons should also be yours.
"Mr. Lucas, have you not ever considered letting Wendy continue living with the mories she has now, creating new ones and living a life together as a happy family?
"What do you think Wendy would do if she ever rembered everything?
"Would she take revenge on you, or leave Lake City and return to Rheinsville City?
"Regardless of her choice, I’m sure she would find it difficult to live like she is now, harboring only love for you, without any hate or thoughts of vengeance.
"I know you love Wendy. Don’t you want her to love you too?
"If those mories from the past are so painful for Wendy, why let her rember that pain? Those mories are nothing but a burden for Wendy.
"Don’t you wish for her to be happy?"
Zen’s every word hit Michael’s heart like a hamr. His mind at this mont was in turmoil.
He knew Zen was right.
Once Wendy got her mories back, it was inevitable that their relationship would change. It was impossible for things to remain as they were.
Zen saw that Michael had been swayed by her words and pressed on, "Mr. Lucas, you should also include Christian in your considerations."
"Christian?" Michael wondered.
"If Wendy recovers her mories and drifts apart from you, Christian will have a chance with her. If not Christian, then Todd. If not Todd, then soone else. Wendy might have two children, but she is young and beautiful. Furthermore, with her current status, she won’t lack suitors. Mr. Lucas, think about it carefully. I will make a move first."
Zen had originally planned to bribe the doctor. She wanted him to find a way to prevent Wendy from recovering her mories.
However, Michael saw her. In that case, she would just nudge him in the direction she wanted, and perhaps he would bribe the doctor himself.
She believed that Michael would definitely not want Wendy to rember the past.
