Anthony knew there was no chance to salvage the situation. He knew he had done Michael wrong by deciding to help Christian.

Michael was making it clear to him that he would do whatever it took to complete the deal with Mr. Nathan, and this was his warning and revenge on Anthony.

MC could afford to close losing deals like this but DR could not. With Christian out of commission, DR was leaderless. Anthony dared not fight head-on with Michael since Michael had already made his intention clear.

If Michael and Christian’s company engaged each other in a price war, the only ones who would benefit were their business rivals.

Once Michael signed the contract, he left to et with the representative of another company.

By the ti he had finished that day’s business and returned to the hospital, it was already midnight.

Michael entered Wendy’s room quietly, wanting to take a look at her. He had already made as little noise as possible, but he still woke Wendy up.

Wendy imdiately sat up in bed and asked loudly, "Who are you?"

The incident with Christian that happened two days ago had cast a psychological shadow over her, and she was still sensitive to unexpected sounds in the room.

"It’s , Wendy." Michael hadn’t expected to wake Wendy. He imdiately walked to her bedside and reassured her, "Don’t be afraid. It’s only ."

Wendy’s tensed-up posture relaxed visibly when she heard Michael’s voice.

She reached out for the light switch and turned the bedside lights on. In a low voice, she said, "You only just finished work? I thought you wouldn’t co since it’s already so late."

Wendy couldn’t see. She had switched on the lights for Michael’s benefit because she was afraid he might fall in the dark.

"Did I disturb your rest? I’m sorry." Michael’s voice was gentle as he reached out and held Wendy’s hand.

As Michael held Wendy’s hand, he felt how cold it was and imdiately tucked it back in under the blanket.

"You don’t have to worry about if you’re busy. The dressing over my eyes will be removed tomorrow, so you should just concentrate on your work. I can’t help you now, and I do not wish to beco a burden instead." Wendy told Michael softly.

Michael and Wendy rarely had opportunities to chat quietly with each other. At this mont, both of them were concerned and worried about the other. Michael wished they could remain like this for the rest of their lives.

"You will never be my burden." Michael declared. "Even if you are a burden, it’s one I will gladly carry."

Michael’s boorish declaration of love made Wendy laugh.

Shaking her head, she chuckled, "Okay, you should go take a shower and rest."

"Okay!" Obediently, Michael left to shower.

Michael sounded so happy Wendy knew he had mistaken her aning. Calling out after him, she said, "I’m going to sleep now. You can sleep on the cot later, don’t disturb !"

With that, she covered herself with the blanket and closed her eyes to sleep.

When Michael ca out of the ensuite bathroom after his shower and saw Wendy already lying down, he smiled devilishly.

He went to her bed then flipped open the blanket and got in next to her.

Feeling the bed sink down as Michael got on, Wendy blushed.

A little bashful, she pushed at Michael. "You, go sleep on the cot!"

"Husband and wife should sleep in the sa bed!" Michael simply reached out and pulled her into his arms. Propping his head gently on the top of her head and amusent evident in his voice, he whispered, "Goodnight."

"I’m a patient and this is a hospital. Who shares a hospital bed?" Wendy felt the warmth emanating from Michael and blushed an even deeper shade of red.

Her heart started beating faster.

There was no way Michael would get off her bed. He hugged her even tighter instead. "Your injuries have long healed, so I won’t be hurting you. Don’t worry."

Wendy did not know what secrets there were in the mory that she had lost.

However, she was very sure, based on Michael’s actions during this ti when she was hospitalised, that he was a good husband and a good father.

***

It was Saturday, and Mrs. Lucas had co to the hospital early in the morning with breakfast.

Wendy’s bandages would be removed that day.

During the last check-up, the doctor had declared that her eyes were recovering well. If everything went fine, she should be able to see when the bandages were removed.

Mrs. Lucas was concerned about her and had co early.

Other than Mrs. Lucas, Mary, Zen, Jill, and even Zess had co to offer their support.

That’s why a large group of people surrounded Wendy’s bed when the doctor ca into the room. Eyeing them, he joked, "There’s so many of you here. If the patient’s eyes have not fully recovered, will I have to run away quickly?"

"Nonsense!" old Mrs. Lucas chastised disapprovingly. "Wendy’s eyes will recover,

don’t jinx it!"

The doctor had wanted to make a joke to lighten the atmosphere in the room, but it seed to have backfired. He imdiately turned serious and apologized, "I’m sorry, I’m sorry. What was I thinking? Don’t worry, the patient’s eyes will be fine. She will definitely be able to see."

Luckily, the doctor was quick to think on his feet and managed to respond suitably,

thus placating old Mrs. Lucas.

"Wendy, it’s going to be okay." Michael felt Wendy’s hand shuddering a little as he held it. He reassured her, "You must trust the doctor and believe in yourself."

Wendy nodded and let out a small sound in acknowledgnt.

"It’s okay, you won’t be nervous anymore once the bandages are off." The doctor stood in front of Wendy and examined the bandage around her eyes. His assistant handed him a pair of scissors.

Bending over, he skilfully cut the bandage over her eyes and slowly unwound it.

"Mrs. Lucas, try to open your eyes."

Wendy squeezed Michael’s hand.

As everyone watched with bated breath, Wendy slowly opened her eyes. Her eyes had been bandaged for many days and were unused to the light. Subconsciously, Wendy closed her eyes again once the light rays hit her retina.

The doctor said encouragingly, "Mrs. Lucas, as your eyes have been covered for an extended period, they have gotten used to the dark. The light may seem uncomfortably glaring for a while when you first open your eyes, but that’s normal. You will get used to the light intensity after a while. Try to open and then close them slowly. Do that a few tis."

Following the doctor’s instructions, Wendy’s eyes slowly got used to the light again.

She held out her hand in front of her and waved it. Then, she exclaid happily, "I can see! I can see my hand!"

It was a welco news for everyone who had gathered in the room that day.

Leah was the first to reach for Wendy’s hand. She asked excitedly, "Mommy, Mommy, can you see ? It’s , Leah!"

Wendy looked down and saw an adorable little girl looking at her expectantly.

Warmth filled her chest at the sight.

Reaching out to caress Leah’s cheek, Wendy smiled and said, "You’re Leah? You’re really pretty, just like how I imagined you’d be!"

Leah giggled happily at Wendy’s remark. "That’s because Mommy is pretty, so I am pretty too!"

"Mommy, I’m Jake." Jake approached Wendy and looked up at her.

Wendy ruffled his hair with a smile. "My son is good-looking too. Seems like I did well!"

"The credit isn’t all yours," Michael interjected. "At least half of it is mine!"

That information was just a little too much, and everyone burst out laughing. Wendy was embarrassed, and her face imdiately blushed.
