After work, Michael received a call from his grandmother.

Mrs. Lucas wanted him to make a trip back to the main house.

Michael could hear Anthony Lucas and Winnie Quinn arguing the mont he stepped into the main house.

"Anthony Lucas, you piece of trash! Did the dog eat your conscience? Where were you the past three days? Were you at that bttch’s house again? I resisted filing for divorce so as not to embarrass the Lucases reputation! Do you think I’m a pushover?"

Winnie got so angry that she picked up things around the house and threw them at Anthony. Anthony had stopped loving Winnie a long ti ago and would not put up with her violence.

He dragged her arm and pushed her down against the sofa. Pointing his finger at her, he shouted back, "Did I force you to stay? I can’t wait for you to file for divorce! I have had enough of you! I beg you, please, file for divorce. Spare ."

"B*strd! If it weren’t for , would you have beco so influential in Lake City so quickly? If it weren’t for , you would still be slogging it out as a nobody! After you’d gotten power and money, you want to push aside and return to your old fla? Dream on!" Winnie dragged herself up. "We’ll die together today!" she said as she walked into the kitchen.

Michael had long grown numb to his parent’s argunts.

Since he was ten years old, such scenes were common.

At first, he had tried to persuade his mother to divorce his father and not drag it out. But Winnie refused to leave and insisted on dragging it out.

As long as she did not file for divorce, all the other won Anthony had could only be mistresses. So, Michael was reluctant to get involved with his parents’ problems.

He hardly ca ho so he did not care how much they argued.

Winnie walked out holding a kitchen knife.

Several maids followed behind her, hoping to take the knife out of her hands, afraid of what she might do. But with Winnie’s nacing look, nobody dared to stop her.

When she saw Michael, she lowered her hand that was holding the knife a little, her face showed so guilt and awkwardness.

Winnie knew that she owed her son quite a lot. She had caused him to grow up in a dysfunctional ho, which caused him to beco stubborn and dark.

That was also the reason Winnie did not want him to live in the main house. She and Anthony argued and fought with each other every other day. If Michael were to live in the main house, that would only add to his misery.

Michael reached out and took the knife from Winnie’s hand. Then, without a word, he turned around and walked upstairs, his face dark.

His father used to be a powerful man of high standing in Lake City, and his mother was an elegant socialite.

Now, they were behaving like mad people.

All traces of their glorious past seed to have disappeared.

Michael felt amused and pitiful.

"Michael..." Winnie called out after her son apologetically.

She did not know her son would be coming ho today. If she had known, she would have tried to control herself and not argue with Anthony.

Michael continued climbing the stairs without once looking back.

It was his grandmother who had asked him to co today.

Mrs. Lucas was the most clear-headed person in this entire house. She had been standing on the second floor, watching the ruckus in the large hall.

Michael walked up to her and held out his hand to support her. "Grandmother," he said quietly.

"Let’s go to the study for a chat," Mrs. Lucas replied. "It is quieter in there." With her walking stick in one hand and another holding Michael, she walked slowly to the study.

Once inside the study, Michael closed the door. That instantly shut out the arguing voices downstairs.

It was quiet inside.

Michael broke the silence first. "Why did you ask to co?"

"I want to ask you about Wendy." Mrs. Lucas let out a small sigh and asked, "Do you still love her?"

Mrs. Lucas was overjoyed when she learned that Wendy was still alive.

She had always wished for Wendy and Michael to make up and live happily ever after. But she beca very disappointed after Wendy ran over Michael.

Under such circumstances, Mrs. Lucas no longer wished for him and Wendy to get back together. No matter how much she loved Wendy, she could not risk her grandson’s life. She was afraid that if they continued, Wendy might hurt Michael again.

Over this period of ti, the relationship between Michael and Wendy had been in a deadlock.

She had thought that maybe that was for the better. For the two of them to be more like strangers and not have any more feelings for each other.

However, she had not expected Michael to secretly buy an airplane ticket and follow Wendy to Rheinsville City.

What Michael did had made his grandmother realize that he still loved Wendy.

That he had truly fallen in love with Wendy. His heart hung on Wendy’s every move. He did not bear any grudges against Wendy after she tried to run him over. Instead, he went to the police the next day to clear things up. So, Mrs. Lucas started to waver from her initial stance.

Michael lowered his head a little and made a small grunt in answer to his grandmother’s question.

Mrs. Lucas let out a deeper sigh at his answer. She took Michael’s hand in hers and patted the back of his hand. "Your father and mother have quarreled for almost a lifeti and there has not been any peace at ho. That is because there is no more love between them."

"If a husband and wife want to live happily, love must be at the foundation of their relationship"

"Wendy had loved you so much but you did not love her. Now that Wendy no longer loves you, you have fallen head over heels for her. The relationship between the two of you is really complicated. I need to clarify sothing with you before I can help you with your next step."

"What is it?" Michael asked. He had never hidden anything from his grandmother.

In this family, he could not depend on his parents, only his grandmother could really help him.

"What really happened five years ago? Why does Wendy hate you so much?" she asked. All she knew about what happened five years ago was that Michael was an towards Wendy, and nothing more.

Michael thought back on the events that took place five years ago. He beca silent for a while before telling his grandmother the truth. "Five years ago, I was set up by Christian and was falsely led to believe that Wendy was carrying his child and I forced her to the operating theatre. She knelt on the floor and begged to let her and the child go. At first, I refused. But later, I could not bear to do it. I was about to keep that child when Christian ca and took Wendy away..."

Michael recounted everything that happened five years ago to Mrs. Lucas. After she had heard the entire story, she nodded.

"Now I know why Wendy would try to run you over. Whether it was a misunderstanding or not, you had wronged Wendy. It seems to that Wendy still has so feelings for you. It has been five years. She could have chosen to remain in Rheinsville City with her child and lead a peaceful life. Instead, she chose to return to take revenge. This shows that she still loves you. Because without love, there will be no hate."

"But, Grandmother, if Wendy hates so much, I will only bring her more hurt," Michael said, no longer believing that Wendy still loved him.

So what if she still had so love for him?

Her hatred was so deeply rooted in her heart.

"Doesn’t matter whether it is love or hate. As long as she still feels sothing for you, there is hope to turn this around." His grandmother patted the back of Michael’s hand again and a smile spread across her aged face. "Besides, now the two of you have a child. There is an unbreakable blood tie."

His grandmother’s words gave Michael a small ray of hope again.

Maybe things could still work out between him and Wendy?

Holding his grandmother’s hand, Michael told her about Wendy’s intention of leaving MC Enterprise. "Grandmother, Wendy has tendered her resignation to HG. She wants to leave Lake City with Jake. Grandmother, could you help think of sothing to make her stay?"

"I asked you ho today so that I could think of ideas to help you." She had asked him so many questions because she wanted to be sure of their feelings toward each other.

She was not particular about Wendy’s family background, and she also hated howreckers But in all things, there was always hope. Mrs. Lucas hoped that Wendy and Michael could make up.

Furthermore, they have a child.

Once Michael and Wendy start their own separate families, that child’s existence would beco the most pitiful.

That was why Mrs. Lucas did not think the sa way as Michael’s mother.

Mrs. Lucas did not wish for Yonina and Michael to be together.

She continued, "Jake is your strongest connection to Wendy. I will give her a call in a couple of days and ask her to bring Jake to et . Then I will try to speak up for you and hopefully, I can help to clear your misunderstandings. As long as what happened five years ago is cleared up, I am sure Wendy’s heart will soften."

Michael nodded his head.

As long as there was hope.

...

Three days later, Michael’s grandmother gave Wendy a call.

Wendy was not surprised to receive a call from her. Wendy could hear a friendly smile in the elderly lady’s voice. "Wendy, I miss your lotus cake, and I haven’t seen you and Jake in a while. Could you bring Jake along and visit at the main house when you have the ti?"

Wendy did not want to go to the main house. She had already guessed that if she were to go to the main house, Michael would definitely be there.

Wendy had already sent out her resignation and was waiting for the board of directors to approve.

The mont the board of directors approved her resignation, she planned to leave Lake City imdiately with Jake and return to Rheinsville City. So, she did not wish to have any more dealings with Michael.

She also did not wish to continue with her revenge plans.

She did not want to continue being separated from her daughter Leah, and did not want her son Jake to be affected by her hatred.

Wendy was still a mother at heart. All she wished was for her two children to grow up happy and healthy.

In other words, running down Michael was enough to answer to herself for what happened five years ago. Although that was not entirely satisfactory.

"You don’t have to make a lotus cake if you’re too busy," Mrs. Lucas said, purposely compromising a little. "But Jake is my great-grandson. It should be reasonable for to et my great-grandson, right?"

Wendy pursed her lips. She wanted to reject but also could not bear to say no.

If it were Michael who requested to et his son, she would flat-out reject the request. But Mrs. Lucas was already eighty years old and had always been kind to her.

Mrs. Lucas sighed when she did not hear an answer. "All right," she said.

And she hung up.

Listening to the busy tone on the phone, Wendy lowered her eyes.

Actually, she had wanted to say she would bring Jake over to visit Mrs. Lucas in a couple of days during the coming weekend. But before Wendy could respond, Mrs. Lucas had already hung up.

Not long after that, Wendy heard her doorbell ring.

Less opened the door and saw an old lady.

"Ma’am, who are you looking for?" she asked in surprise.

Wendy and Jake were in the middle of their dinner. When she heard Zess say "ma’am’, her heart sorsaulted. She stood up straight away and went to the door to take a look.

Mrs. Lucas had really co.
