There are a lot.

I cracked my neck.

Imdiately, like a hail storm, the swarm of hundreds of Ferins made their way toward , their murderous beaks and sharpened talons glistening under the sun rays.

My smirk deepened. I rolled my shoulders.

I crouched, clenching the steel pipe. I didn’t drag it out yet.

Just a little bit closer.

I turned toward Marcus and Jericho. They both stood at the broken entrance of the mall, their mouths closed and widened as they spilled out inaudible words. All I could hear was the symphony of the sounds of hundreds of screeches and hundreds of flapping.

Seeing their worried reactions and the way Marcus jumped, waving at to co over, I couldn’t help but smile, shaking my head as I mouthed, ’Go secure the food.’

I faced the monsters, dragging the steel pipe from the ground.

—Leap

I controlled my breath, channeling the air I breathed into raw strength, fueling my muscles as I stread through the air, toward the hundreds of Ferins in the sky.

The mont I reached one, I swung the steel pipe hard, targeting the head.

The Dormant Grade monster moved its head slightly, screeching and alerting the others.

Missing my hit, I beca disoriented in the air, missing my stability.

Imdiately, I grabbed onto the sharp, long beak of the Ferin that dodged.

I clenched it tight, holding my steel pipe with the other hand as my legs dangled freely in the air.

From above, with gritted teeth and sweat-blotted vision, I stared at Marcus and Jericho.

Jericho dragged Marcus into the building as the latter fought to force his way into the swarm, probably trying to fight alongside .

Hold him for now.

I clenched the Ferin’s beak more tightly as I faced it, gazing straight into its eyes.

The pupils were thin slants that rested just above its beak as unending dark spirals. I wondered how it even saw properly.

Locking eyes with , it shook its beak in a pathetic effort to throw off.

I strengthened my grip, whispering, "You ain’t getting rid of easily, buddy."

But those wings of its, though. They were really strong, still flapping and carrying my full weight even while in the air like this.

Using the beak like a bar of sorts, I swung myself, lifting myself in the air just before the beaks of ten Ferins — with speed almost equal to those super jets — pierced the area where I once hung.

I stood on top of the back of the Ferin.

From above, I stared down at the world, smirking.

Well, isn’t this exciting.

I raised my steel pipes, tightly wrapping both of my palms around them as I gritted my teeth, lifting them.

Bam–!

I struck the head of the Ferin.

It began to descend imdiately, with still on its body.

Imdiately, I jumped, finding the sharpened talon of an incoming Ferin that aid to strike mid-air.

I grabbed onto the monster’s leg, holding my steel pipe with my other hand as I stared down at the falling Ferin.

Plop!

The mont it hit the floor, it twitched a little bit, then remained still forever.

[You have slain a Dormant Grade Monster. 10Exp.]

I smirked.

Nice.

I looked up at the monster whose leg I held onto.

"Hi," I greeted with an immaculate smile.

The monster screeched, black saliva sprinkling on my face as its lean, dark, forked tongue stretched out of its mouth.

My smile faded instantly, replaced by a frown.

I was just greeting.

I tightened my grip on its leg, swinging imdiately to land on its back, just like the first.

"You didn’t have to spit on , you disgusting bird brain!"

I hit its head too, and I jumped, just before it fell to the ground.

[ 10Exp.]

Bam!

I landed on the ground, holding my steel pipe tight.

Ouch.

My waist cracked from the force of my landing.

I raised my neck.

I’m not done yet.

Man, these things are kinda hard to kill.

Fwoosh—

—Fwah

Overhead, the once gathered monsters, as if coordinated, flew above in arranged groups.

Once in a few seconds, talons or beaks aid at areas of my body like my head, shoulder, ribs, or eyes flew with fear-inducing precision.

I dodged most of them, swung wildly with my steel pipe at the others, and the rest... I began to devise a way to end them. Without climbing them like an idiot again, of course.

"Heyy!!!!" Marcus scread out.

I opened my eyes wide, staring back at Marcus, who ran from the direction of the mall. He threw off his shirt, running with unbridled speed. Face all hardened and concentrated, fists clenched.

"We’ve got so unsmashed food, Duz!" He yelled out. "Now I’m gonna fight."

Imdiately, Marcus halted, crouched, and leaped high into the air.

For a stunned mont, I even wondered if he leaped higher than I.

As he clenched and drew his right fist back — aiming to land a heavy punch — a faint, greyish glow rotated around his clenched fist.

In fact, as I looked closer, I noticed the faint glow all around his body.

Boom–!

His punch landed, and the targeted Ferin fell to the ground imdiately.

Marcus didn’t stop, grabbing onto the talon of another, swinging like a monkey and landing on another.

He stepped on the head of every Ferin he landed on and jumped to another. Every Ferin he stepped on fell to the ground imdiately. Either stunned or dead.

That’s good.

Why didn’t I think of that?

I moved, locating the already stunned Ferins and finishing them off.

After a while of constant Exp flooding ssages, I looked up.

Marcus continued his hunt, not even showing the slightest hint of hesitation or tiredness.

Seriously, what’s with him? Did he learn how to use his awakened powers?

Ferins still dropped left, right and center.

Even in the air, Marcus stood on top of a floating Ferin, fighting off two other Ferins that attacked him. One with its beak, the other with its talons.

Marcus clenched the beak of one, and the leg of the other, and — without forgetting to step on the head of the one he stood on — he jumped, with the two Ferins in hand, hitting them hard on the ground as he landed.

Imdiately, the head of one burst open, black, gooey blood spilling out, while the other’s legs broke, and it coughed out black blood.

Marcus stood, and as he did, he stepped on the head of the coughing monster, ending it.

Damn. Ain’t that brutal.

At this point, I won’t even have enough Exp to farm.

Marcus stood, staring at his own palms with a small smile on his lips. He seed pleased and satisfied.

Taking advantage of his celebratory act, I leaped high into the air.

Let’s try out what he did.

In the air — like a javelin — I threw my steel pipe with all my strength, and it flew with precision, finding the head of an unsuspecting, flying Ferin.

The result was instant death.

With both of my palms, I grabbed onto the two legs of a Ferin, clenching it tightly.

"Nng!" I groaned, swinging high.

I flipped, landing on the back of the monster. And, after gathering strength in my legs, I stepped on the Ferin’s head, jumping imdiately to another monster.

My eyes widened as I landed and stepped on another Ferin.

It worked.
