Logan scread in pain as blood oozed out, staining the bedsheet and the floor. The pain almost blinded him, and out of instinct, he tried to get away from Ranon, whose expression didn’t change at all.

However, that was what scared Logan the most. Ranon’s coldness was unnerving. He didn’t even want to fathom what was in his mind. The thing that he would do to him after he learned that Logan was the cause of his missing wife and daughter.

"I am sorry.... I am sorry... I was desperate and didn’t know what to do." Logan stopped talking when Ranon’s fingers wrapped around his neck, and he pushed Logan down to the bed.

Logan was terrified and speechless. He clawed at Ranon’s arm to escape his strong grip, but Ranon didn’t budge even though Logan had scratched him. Yet, the blood made it slippery.

"Ranon... Mr. Leighton..." Logan didn’t have enough strength to fight back; the car crash had broken so of his ribs and twisted his ankles, and he had a concussion from it. In addition to so minor injuries, he was very frail.

But then, even if Logan were at his best, it was still doubtful that he could beat Ranon in a fight when he couldn’t even stand against Hazel.

"Please... you are going to kill ..." Logan tried to talk his way out, but his vision started to get blurry. "Please, we need to find Hazel... I can help you." He was in a desperate attempt to save his life; he knew Ranon would kill him without hesitation after learning what he had done to Ashlyn.

And now, Hazel and Ashlyn were in danger.

Logan knew he had fucked up big ti. But he was going to die if Ranon didn’t stop.

His vision was blurry, and he saw black dots as his attempt to push Ranon away beca sluggish. He was nearly losing it, as he thought this was it; it was the end of his life.

It was such an irony that he was going to be killed in the hospital after being saved from a near-death experience.

However, suddenly Ranon let him go, and Logan imdiately breathed greedily, filling his lungs as he coughed.

"Who was your accomplice?" That was the first question that Ranon asked Logan. "You couldn’t have done it alone."

For Logan to be able to sneak Ashlyn out of the apartnt was a far stretch if he had done it alone. Soone must have helped him.

"Leon..." Logan heaved; his mind was still swirling in fear, as he was so close to death. Thus, he answered Ranon’s question without thinking twice; he was too scared to lie. "Your head of security... he helped ."

Leon...

"Let’s play a ga, okay?" Hazel kissed Ashlyn’s forehead and both of her cheeks, her nose, and her eyes. She liked kisses. "Don’t make a sound, okay, baby? Don’t speak until Mama says so."

"When do I speak?" Ashlyn blinked her eyes. She raised both of her arms, asking her mother to hug her.

Her daughter was very affectionate. She liked hugs and kisses. She was so different from Hazel, or even Ranon, in this matter, because Hazel knew for sure that her husband didn’t like to be touched casually by other people.

Ashlyn’s upbringing could have been a factor in this.

Her little girl was perfect, and Hazel couldn’t believe how lucky she was to have her.

"Bunny eats a carrot, and I kiss you like this." Hazel kissed the tip of her nose three tis. "Then, it will be the code for you to speak again. Okay? No matter what, don’t make a sound; okay, baby?"

Ashlyn then rembered her stuffed bunny and her mother’s promise. "Two bunnies?" She raised two of her fingers, and Hazel chuckled.

"Yes, two bunnies. I promised to buy you two, right? Let’s buy them when we get ho, okay?" Hazel prayed they would get ho.

"Okay." Ashlyn hugged Hazel’s neck tightly. "Love you, Mama..."

"I love you too, my little girl." Hazel grabbed a blanket to tie around Ashlyn’s body and hers so that she could use both of her hands. "Now, let’s play the ga, okay?"

Ashlyn snuggled against Hazel’s chest, but she didn’t make a sound.

"Good job." Hazel kissed her forehead and checked the ti. She had one minute before Lyle turned off all the CCTV in this house and fifteen minutes to get away from here.

Hazel ignored the pain in her shoulder as she carried Ashlyn out of the room. She must have twisted her ankle at so point, because it was a little bit sore, yet she ignored that one, too; there was no ti for her to dwell on the pain.

It was fortunate that she had a high pain tolerance to deal with it.

And when the ti ca, Hazel tightened the knot on the blanket around Ashlyn’s body, secured her before she walked out of the room, and imdiately went to the back door.

She knew where it was without Lyle providing details, as she was familiar with the layout of the house.

Just like Lyle said, he had secured this area too, because Hazel didn’t see anyone here, but she heard a few people laughing and chatting in the distance.

Hazel didn’t waste her ti and moved quickly as she found the back door. She did it in less than five minutes; her heart was racing.

The back door led to the backyard, where she could find a small door that would take her to a small alley, and if she followed it, she would reach the side street. It would be a five-minute walk before she could reach the main road.

Hazel didn’t have money on her, but she could get a cab to the apartnt; soone would pay for it. It was not a problem.

This plan was simple; in fact, everything seed uncomplicated if the plan worked well.

However, just like any other plans, it had a hole. And nothing had ever been simple with Hazel’s life... or River’s...

Because the mont Hazel opened the door, two barreled guns greeted her. Out of instinct, Hazel put her hand on Ashlyn’s head, pressed her face further against her chest, and turned her body around so that the gun wouldn’t be directed at her daughter.

She scanned the situation even before Kyle could speak, and the first thing that she saw was Lyle, who had been beaten black and blue. He was lying on the ground, breathing heavily, as he curled his body in pain.

His arm was twisted in a weird position.

"Where are you going, Mrs. Leighton?" Kyle asked with a mocking smirk on the corner of his lips.

"Going ho, of course. This is not my ho, after all." Hazel forced calmness into her voice. There were only Kyle and one other man, who stepped on Lyle’s back.

Hazel had never t with this second man, but she knew him. He was Axel Duncan. His little sister was currently in Ranon’s hand.

She wondered if she could make a deal with it.

"I have told you that your brother can’t be trusted," Axel said, as he gave a kick to Lyle’s head. He grunted in pain. "Good thing I put another tapper in that room. Now, you know that you can’t even trust your family."

Kyle glanced at Lyle condescendingly. "Disappointing. I thought you could do better than this," he said to his brother. There was no pity whatsoever in his voice upon seeing his brother’s current condition.

"Why don’t we talk about it?" Hazel tried to talk her way out of this situation, even though it was not her strong suit.

"There is no need for the conversation, Mrs. Leighton. This is a done deal."

"What deal? I thought the person who had ordered the hit had withdrawn the offer. You have nothing to gain here." Hazel caressed the back of Ashlyn’s head; her daughter did very well at not making a sound.

"Yes, the deal is canceled, but I just made another deal," Kyle said. He glanced at Axel and then took two steps back. "They are yours now," he said.

Hazel could guess more or less what was going on here.

"Fine." Hazel then shifted her attention to Axel, who was now approaching her. "Let leave, and I will convince Ranon to let go of your sister. You can keep my word."

"My sister? Issabella? That’s the crazy one?" Axel scoffed. "I lost her a long ti ago. Your husband can have her. She only brings problems to ."

Hazel narrowed her eyes. She was trying to see whether Axel was putting on a brave front to make her lower her guard, but he seed genuine with his indifference toward his sister.

"Do you really think that Ranon will not seek revenge if he knows this?"

"Or do you think he will not know this?" Hazel smirked. "My husband is smart enough to know your petty trick."

"Petty trick or not, he can’t prove the involvent of the McKennas and the Denvers."

Axel was right in a way, because the people who had kidnapped Logan’s son were the Barlowes and Gayle Lennox. The McKennas and the Denvers sneaked behind their backs and snatched the opportunity.

Technically, no one could prove their involvent.

However, it would be a different story if they returned Hazel and Ashlyn, as it would only expose the fact that they were the ones who had attacked at the outskirts.

And Hazel rembered what Lyle said to her...
