Desmond Fairchild frowned slightly, not quite understanding Seraphina Sinclair’s aning: "What are you talking about?"

"Are you still playing dumb? Where did the newspapers in your room co from? Why did you investigate ?"

Desmond thought about the things he had left there and hesitated for a mont before explaining, "I saw the scar on your back and was just curious...."

"Who do you think you are!" Seraphina cut Desmond off without hesitation, speaking coldly, "You, a kept man, just need to do your job and that’s it, why ddle in other people’s business! Who do you think you are, Desmond Fairchild?"

The incident from five years ago touched Seraphina’s most sensitive spot, and all the harsh words ca out uncontrollably.

Both ends of the phone call fell into an awkward silence because of these unrestrained words.

"Is this how you see ?"

Desmond couldn’t believe his ears, his voice low and deep as he asked. The company employees outside didn’t know what was going on, so they could only stay in the break room, not daring to breathe too loudly.

Seraphina knew her words were too harsh, but she couldn’t take back what had been said.

After waiting for a long ti without an answer from Seraphina, Desmond’s heart gradually sank. He curved the corners of his mouth into a bitter smile, realizing that after all this ti, this was still the role he played in her heart.

"I don’t want to argue with you now."

Seraphina sat rigidly on the sofa, her hands and feet icy cold, her body uncontrollably trembling. She hung up the phone before Desmond could answer.

If she continued the conversation, she worried she might say sothing even more hurtful.

The happy family scene from last night was still vivid, but it had now turned into such a state.

"Ring ring—"

The abrupt ringtone of the phone startled Desmond. He picked it up with surprise, but his joy vanished in an instant when he saw the caller ID.

"Grandma, what’s up?"

Desmond’s temples throbbed, and he tiredly massaged them, trying to keep his voice from sounding too exhausted.

But Old Mrs. Fairchild, having experienced a lifeti, sensed sothing was wrong imdiately: "Desmond, what’s the matter? Is work too tiring?"

"Sothing like that."

"Asking what’s up, when will you bring my granddaughter-in-law back so Grandma can et her!"

The thought of her granddaughter-in-law and great-grandson made Old Mrs. Fairchild extrely happy. The old lady always looked forward to family reunions, but Desmond was taking his ti.

Desmond suddenly rembered he did promise to bring her ho for a al last ti. But now, after the fight they just had, how could he lower himself to invite Seraphina Sinclair to co ho with him?

After pondering for a long ti, he finally said, "Grandma, I’ll be ho for dinner tonight."

"Aren’t you bringing my darling grandson?"

"We’ll see then." Desmond answered in a deep voice.

Old Mrs. Fairchild hung up the phone full of joy and imdiately instructed the servants to prepare several dishes that Desmond loved.

Desmond tightly clenched the phone in his hand, his distinct knuckles slightly turning white, as he looked at the busy street below the building, montarily dazed.

No matter how chaotic his private affairs were, he could imdiately return to his work mode, ticulously handling his tasks. By the ti he finished everything, it was already evening and the city lights were bright.

The illumination of thousands of hos reflected a warm, breathing world.

He drove all the way back to the old family ho. Old Mrs. Fairchild looked expectantly behind him, not seeing who she wanted, with a slight touch of disappointnt. But noticing her grandson’s not-so-good expression, she didn’t press further, smiling as she said, "You’re back. These are all the dishes you love. Go wash your hands and co taste them."
