"Shut up, Ivy Sumrs, shut up! I don’t want to hear it!"
Ivy Sumrs opened her mouth, blood continuously flowing from the corners of her lips. The blood wasn’t a normal red, but a dark red.
Damien Lancaster didn’t want to listen to Ivy Sumrs right now, but Ivy’s hand clutched him tightly, forcing him to listen.
"The children have always dread of a ho with both a mom and a dad... I’m not a good mother, I can’t give them that... If, if I die, just tell them I’ve gone sowhere far away... You must be a good father, love them well... You promise ..."
"Ivy Sumrs, you can be cruel to , but not to the children. They need you, they can’t live without you."
Ivy looked at Damien Lancaster with an indescribable complexity in her eyes. She struggled to open her mouth, "My mother said when I was young that I had a bad fate... Maybe it’s true, after so many tis, I still couldn’t escape death..."
Ivy looked at Damien, feeling both complex and helpless, "Damien Lancaster, why turn back now? Why not always be heartless, always be indifferent?"
Damien Lancaster trembled all over, holding her tightly, "It was my fault, Ivy Sumrs. Those five years, my mind was filled with you, I’ve always been looking for you, always... Please don’t leave ... Please..."
Ivy Sumrs said nothing, closed her eyes, and tears slipped from the corners of her eyes.
Seeing her close her eyes, Damien panicked, "Don’t sleep, don’t sleep, we’ll be there soon, don’t sleep, I beg you."
"But I..."
I’m really so tired.
The words were unfinished.
The hand holding his suddenly loosened.
Damien’s whole body tensed, the woman in his arms was no longer moving.
"Ivy? Ivy? Ivy—"
Damien Lancaster’s pupils trembled as he repeated her na, trying to wake her up.
"Ivy Sumrs... wake up, wake up, I won’t promise you. If you die, I’ll tell the children you abandoned them, that you’re a heartless mother, and you left them, and I’ll marry another woman, have the children recognize that woman as mother. Ivy Sumrs, you wouldn’t want to see that, would you?"
No matter what Damien said, Ivy had no response.
Her blood flowed more and more, Damien couldn’t stop it.
Tears continuously slipped from his eyes, and Damien lowered his head deeply.
"The one who should die is , Ivy Sumrs, the one who should die is . Let die instead of you, let die instead of you, alright..."
Ahead, Zachary Lancaster’s eyes were already blood-red, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, his foot not moving an inch from the accelerator.
But now it was rush hour, everywhere was traffic jamd.
The road ahead was blocked, the car couldn’t move an inch.
Zachary turned back with red eyes, "Bro, there’s a traffic jam ahead."
Damien lifted his empty gaze, the road was tightly blocked, the honking sounded all around, the noise suffocating.
Damien suddenly pulled open the car door, carrying Ivy out of the car and dashed down the street. Zachary also opened the car door and got out, but Damien had already run far with Ivy in his arms.
Damien looked like a madman out of control, holding a bloody woman in his arms, everyone was giving way for him.
But at this mont, he could no longer feel the woman’s breath, Damien was in despair, terrified to the extre.
Finally reaching the nearest hospital, he shouted for doctors, and doctors imdiately rushed over when they saw.
Ivy was placed on a gurney and wheeled into the operating room. Soon a nurse ca out to ask Damien for Ivy’s na, age, ID number, blood type, dical history, and any drug allergies.
Especially the blood type, Ivy lost so much blood, she would need a transfusion, they needed to get blood from the blood bank.
Damien froze, "Ivy Sumrs, twenty-nine years old..."
The nurse looked up at him, "Blood type, dical history, allergies?"
Damien didn’t know.
"You must at least know her ID number?"
"I..."
Seeing the man unable to respond, the nurse frowned at him, "What are you to her?"
"Husband."
The nurse paused, looking strangely at Damien.
As a husband, only knowing the wife’s na and age!
What an odd one!
"She has been taking antidepressants and sleeping pills."
The nurse noted it down, hearing the word antidepressant, recalling the scene when Ivy was brought in, "How was she injured? Suicide?"
Damien fell silent again.
"Knife wound, not suicide."
Seeing she couldn’t get more information, the nurse quickly went back inside to have Ivy’s blood type tested.
Soon, the nurse returned with a surgical form for Damien to sign.
His vision blurred, hands trembling, all his strength used to sign his na.
The nurse reminded, "She’s very seriously injured, call all her family mbers."
Damien tightened his grip on the pen, a loud buzzing in his ears.
"Her injury is in the lower back, not a fatal area."
The nurse looked at the blood-covered and sowhat disheveled man, sighed, "She’s not just got a knife wound, she’s been poisoned."
"Poisoned?"
The nurse nodded, as several doctors quickly entered the ergency room.
Seeing he had signed, the nurse took the form, "The poisoning is not mild, several directors have been called, we’ll do our best."
The operating room doors opened and closed.
Damien clenched his hands tightly, feeling cold, the blood on his hands had solidified, but his clothes were wet.
Wet with blood.
The wind blew, a chill rushed over his body.
"Bro!" Zachary ran breathlessly, "How’s Ivy? What did the doctors say?"
Damien drooped his eyes, "The doctors said knife wound plus poisoning."
"Poisoning?" Zachary frowned tightly, "Soone wants Ivy dead!"
Knife wound and poisoning, indicating the perpetrator’s cruelty.
Damien closed his eyes, "Why hasn’t there been any news of Rachel Shaw for so long?"
"Bro, you suspect it was Rachel Shaw?"
Damien raised his eyes, "It’s been so long and we still can’t find a woman in shackles, who miscarried. Do you think that’s normal?"
Not to say suspecting Rachel Shaw, but the fact they hadn’t found her was a problem.
"Yes, we’ve stationed people at hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, airports, ports, stations with police checks, Rachel Shaw is a wanted person, she can’t book a hotel. How co we can’t find her yet, could soone be helping her?"
"Who in Aethelgard would dare help her."
That engagent party, Damien believed everyone saw, especially with her in shackles, who would dare help her.
Zachary Lancaster, "Then it’s even stranger, but this matter with sister-in-law..."
Damien Lancaster couldn’t figure it out. He trusted Rachel Shaw didn’t have the capability.
When she was caught, she didn’t even have money on her; she couldn’t hire anyone. She would be scrambling to hide herself, and certainly couldn’t appear to harm Ivy Sumrs.
Damien Lancaster’s head ached.
"Could it be the Scott Family who has already acted?"
Damien Lancaster was reminded by Zachary Lancaster’s words.
The Scott Family had the largest rcenary organization.
But there was another issue here.
Currently, Ivy Sumrs was connected to the Sterling Family. Anyone wishing to harm her would have to consider whether they could handle the Sterlings.
The Scott Family didn’t bear a grudge against Ivy Sumrs; just over a proposal, there’s no other conflict to warrant killing soone, it simply doesn’t make sense.
More importantly, if the Scotts really wanted to act, they would consider whether it would cause Noah Scott to completely break with them.
Therefore, it couldn’t be the Scott Family!
Tristan Sterling and Kyle Sterling rushed over.
Glancing at the tightly closed door of the operating room, Tristan Sterling tightened his thin lips, looking at Damien Lancaster, "There was nothing unusual at the scene."
They stayed to investigate the surroundings and check the surveillance.
Of course, it’s possible that during the chaos, those who acted simply fled.
There were many people present, most of them parents and children, making it too easy for people’s guard to be lowered.
Clearly, it was a preditated act to strike at that location.
Kyle Sterling clenched his palm, "What did the doctor say?"
Damien Lancaster’s temples throbbed, his voice hoarse beyond recognition, "The situation is very bad."
...
Inside the operating room.
Ivy Sumrs awoke painfully from her coma, her vision a white blur, intense pain at her lower back while her body was cold, a numb sort of cold.
She coughed lightly, and a mouthful of blood spewed from her mouth, the blood dark red, a clear sign of poisoning, yet the doctors seed helpless.
The wound could be treated, but without knowing what poison it was, they couldn’t detoxify, so they called over experts in this field.
The poison’s composition still awaited test results.
Ivy Sumrs half-closed her eyes, her mind flashing through past mories.
Scenes of her parents taking care of her during childhood.
A mont where her mother sat by the window, telling her she was trapped here and could never get out.
The day she married Damien Lancaster.
The births of Annie, Cherie, and Sophie.
She seed to hear her mother calling her, "Ivy..."
And even Holly Sutton’s warning, to be content and not to follow her mother’s old path.
What counts as following her mother’s old path?
How does one be content?
Ivy Sumrs closed her eyes.
Beside her, the monitor asuring life signs emitted an alarm sound.
"Beep——"
Piercingly harsh.
Every doctor inside the operating room tensed their nerves.
...
Outside the operating room, Damien Lancaster suddenly stood up, walking to the door.
Zachary Lancaster thought he was about to rush in, quickly blocking him, "Bro!"
Damien Lancaster’s dark eyes stared fiercely at the tightly closed door of the operating room, pushing Zachary Lancaster aside, his clenched hand slamd against the door while his other hand pressed against his heart.
Just now, he vividly felt a sharp pain.
A premonition too terrifying to think about surged.
Ivy Sumrs!
Don’t let anything happen!
...
At the Lancaster Family.
Seeing the three little ones arrive, Seraphina Kennedy was overjoyed.
Seraphina Kennedy put down the cup she was holding and walked quickly over, "Annie, Cherie, and Sophie! Grandma’s precious ones, you’re here, today isn’t..."
Seraphina Kennedy rembered the children were supposed to be with Ivy Sumrs today, why did they co over on their own, she glanced at Julian Jacobs standing behind.
Not seeing Damien Lancaster, she asked, "Where’s Damien? Didn’t he co back with you?"
"Sir... has matters to attend to."
Seraphina Kennedy sensed sothing odd from Julian Jacobs’ expression.
Arranging for the three little ones to head upstairs, Seraphina Kennedy asked, "Is it sothing serious?"
"Yes, Miss Sumrs encountered an incident, Madam, the kids will likely be staying with the Lancasters for the next few days."
Seraphina Kennedy’s face lost its cheer, worried she asked, "What happened to her?"
"I can’t be sure yet, it happened while picking up the kids, Sir has already taken Miss Sumrs to the hospital."
"Is it very serious?"
"It appears so, Madam. I have to attend to matters, I’m leaving now."
"Alright, go quickly. Let know if you get any news." Seraphina Kennedy watched Julian Jacobs leave, clutching her chest, her heart inexplicably racing.
Previously she resented Ivy Sumrs for keeping the children hidden.
But since Rachel Shaw’s actions were exposed, she couldn’t bring herself to dislike Ivy Sumrs anymore.
Now she was sowhat worried.
...
Ivy Sumrs’ condition was very poor, the bleeding couldn’t stop.
And Ivy Sumrs has Rh blood type, also known as "golden blood." When the doctors in the operating room saw this result, they looked at each other in dismay because the blood bank didn’t have reserves of this blood type.
This special blood type is difficult for other hospitals to transfer either.
With no other options, the doctor had to co out to explain the situation to Damien Lancaster.
"This is the current situation, the patient’s blood type is special, our hospital doesn’t have reserves of this blood type..."
