Rachel turned around and saw Seraphina Kennedy storming in angrily. Her eyes widened, "Aunt... Aunt?"
Seraphina couldn’t believe that Rachel could say such vicious words.
"Aunt, it’s not what you heard, let explain."
Rachel anxiously tried to grab Seraphina’s hand but was directly shaken off by her.
"Sophie is a child of the Lancaster Family. How could you curse her so viciously? Even if she weren’t a child of the Lancaster Family, she’s still just a child. She’s already passed away, and you’re still talking about her like this behind her back. I can’t believe you’re this kind of person."
"It’s not like that, Aunt. It was... it was Ivy Sumrs who deliberately provoked , that’s why I said it!"
Only then did Rachel realize that Ivy had done it on purpose.
Seraphina let out a cold humph, "That’s not what I heard just now."
Seraphina wouldn’t love soone else’s child, but her own, she deeply cherished.
Sophie’s death had already saddened her enough, and hearing Rachel talk like this made Seraphina feel like she didn’t recognize the woman in front of her.
"I... I..." Rachel lowered her head, "Aunt, I didn’t an to..."
"Enough, intentional or not, if I hear those words again, be careful I don’t turn against you."
"I won’t do it again, Aunt. Never again."
Seraphina no longer looked at her, "You should leave first, I need to speak with Ivy Sumrs."
Rachel bit her lip, gave Seraphina an innocent look, and seeing that Seraphina was genuinely angry, she left, feeling dejected.
"Do you know why I didn’t want to tell you about the child? Because you’ll believe soone like her is innocent."
Upon hearing this, Seraphina said, "What Rachel said just now was inappropriate, but we won’t believe anything without evidence."
Ivy let out a helpless laugh and shook her head.
"What did you want with ?"
"Damien still hasn’t woken up, please go see him, talk to him. My son is useless. Talking to him doesn’t help, but if you slap him a couple of tis, he might actually improve."
Seraphina was seeking Ivy’s help out of sheer desperation.
Damien Lancaster had been in the ICU for more than a week. After improving, he spent another five days in a regular ward.
Over ten days had passed. The doctors said his condition had improved a lot, but he just wouldn’t wake up.
Even the doctors were puzzled.
Ivy Sumrs, "Aren’t you afraid I’ll hurt him again?"
"You wouldn’t dare!"
"Please close the door on your way out."
"Ivy Sumrs, you and Damien are still technically husband and wife, how can you be so heartless to him?"
"He’s Sophie’s dad, you’re Sophie’s grandmother, he was once my husband, you were once my mother-in-law. How could you both be so heartless to and Sophie?"
"This..." Ivy’s words left Seraphina speechless, and she could only leave in anger.
Ivy lowered her gaze.
Heartless?
Who is the truly heartless one?
Ivy expressionlessly took two sleeping pills from the drawer and swallowed them dry.
The bitter taste spread in her mouth, but Ivy didn’t feel the bitterness.
After washing up, Ivy lay down to sleep.
Once asleep, she felt that strange sensation again, as if soone had entered her room and was beside her, allowing her to sleep more soundly, with fewer nightmares.
Ivy wanted to open her eyes but couldn’t due to the effects of the dication.
The next morning, the sensation from last night was gone, and no one else was in the room.
Ivy rubbed her head. If this continued, she’d suspect the sleeping pills contained hallucinogens.
The prepared breakfast on the table seed to be set by the caregiver. After washing up, Ivy sat down to eat.
The breakfast was more lavish than usual, possibly because the caregiver knew her tastes after taking care of her for so long. Today’s breakfast was quite to her liking.
But Ivy had only eaten a few bites when Nina Sumrs’ family arrived.
They didn’t knock; they barged right in.
"Ivy, how’s your health?" spoke her aunt Jean Jacobs.
Seeing them, Ivy’s face turned cold, losing her appetite for breakfast.
Leading the group was Nina Sumrs, arm-in-arm with Holly Sutton, her grandmother.
In truth, she should no longer call her grandmother because after her father’s death, Holly had forced her and her mother out, branding them as jinxes.
The villa Ivy was staying in now was left to her by her mother, having nothing to do with the Sumrs Family.
As for why they would co today, Ivy never assud they were there to care about her.
"What do you want?"
Nina wore a sly grin, "Cousin, I heard President Lancaster has completely abandoned you. Now that your child is gone, as family, we naturally ca to check on you."
No one knew about Damien Lancaster’s injury and hospitalization, but there were online rumors that Ivy had been abandoned by Damien and cast out by the Lancaster Family.
Ivy knew exactly who was behind this.
Though she didn’t care about these things and had no energy to deal with them.
She hadn’t anticipated it becoming a reason for them to mock her.
Holly coldly huffed, "You really are like your mother, both of you are jinxes. Your mother cursed my son, and you cursed your own daughter!"
Knowing full well her child had just passed and she was grieving, they ca to stab her further.
This was the family she was blood-related to.
Ivy let out a cold laugh, "My grandfather died early too, and my mom hadn’t even married in yet. Why don’t you say you cursed my grandfather, why don’t you say you cursed your own son?"
"You! How dare you! I’m your grandmother! How dare you speak to like that?" Holly scolded.
Nina pursed her lips, "Grandma, cousin clearly doesn’t respect you."
"Are you reprimanding ? You probably don’t have the right. Back then, you were the ones who said we had no relation to the Sumrs Family anymore."
Holly, frustrated, said, "You don’t need to block my words with things from the past. Blood is thicker than water; you can’t change the fact that Sumrs Family blood runs in you."
"So?"
"So I’m still your elder, and you must listen to . I know you’ve been cast out by the Lancaster Family. It’s disgraceful, but I can’t ignore you. You’re still young; it’s appropriate to remarry.
I’ve found soone for you, good family, good job, good person. If you marry him and have a son within a year, they’ll treat you well. I’ve shown your picture to him, and he likes you. Tomorrow you two can et, and our families can discuss the marriage."
So this was why. Ivy’s eyes were icy cold, "Isn’t he good enough for you? Why don’t you marry him yourself?"
"Ivy Sumrs, that’s too much! How can you speak to your grandmother like that?" Uncle Justin Sumrs angrily said, "We’ve chosen soone very suitable for you, soone we know. I’m even friends with him; he won’t dare mistreat you."
Friends with Justin Sumrs.
Justin was over fifty, so the other party must be in their forties or fifties.
Ivy looked at Nina who was snickering and didn’t know how to describe this family.
"I’ve already inford you. You’ve been hospitalized long enough, injuries should be almost healed. Pack up, get discharged tomorrow and et him."
They didn’t intend to stay long and turned to leave.
Nina giggled, "Cousin, I’ve checked that guy out for you. He’s wonderful, he could even be your dad, you’re a perfect match."
With that, Nina left with a smile.
Once outside, Nina called Rachel, "Don’t worry, my grandmother arranged for her to marry a man old enough to be her father. Once she’s married, she’ll have to bear his children."
"Ivy Sumrs won’t easily succumb."
"That’s simple." Nina pulled Jean closer, "Mom, what if cousin doesn’t want to marry?"
Jean smirked, "Once the rice is cooked, how could she refuse?"
Nina and Jean exchanged knowing smiles, "Did you hear that, Rachel?"
Rachel on the other end laughed as well, "Don’t go easy on her. If you’re going to drug her, make it strong so she can’t escape."
"Don’t worry, we will."
After hanging up, Nina glanced back at the ward.
Ivy Sumrs, let’s see if you can remain proud after marrying an old man, being forced to bear his children, and being mistreated by him.
Ivy naturally couldn’t et the man. To prevent her relatives from bothering her again, she hired two bodyguards to stand at her door.
