Another round of terrifying silence.
For what felt like a century, she heard the person on the other side say, "No... Sophie wasn’t kidnapped. It was ... I was the one who sent Sophie there."
There was a loud "boom".
Like a bomb going off.
Damien Lancaster’s voice exploded in her mind, filling her eardrums with piercing noise.
Ivy Sumrs fantasized that she had misheard. Her teeth bit down hard on her tongue, the tallic taste of blood filling her mouth and sliding down her throat.
She continued holding the phone, asking, "It’s not true... is it?!"
Absurd, utterly absurd, so absurd that Ivy Sumrs wondered if she was dreaming.
But! Even in a dream, she wouldn’t believe that Damien Lancaster would send Sophie to the kidnappers.
In Ivy Sumrs’ eyes, Damien didn’t love her, so he didn’t care about her, wasn’t good to her.
But he was a good person; how could he do sothing as outrageous as sending Sophie to the kidnappers?
She didn’t believe it.
She couldn’t believe it.
"You’re lying to ..."
Damien Lancaster took a deep breath on the other end, summoning the strength to say, "I’m not lying to you... Trust , I’ll bring Sophie back!"
Ivy Sumrs dared not ask what exactly had happened.
At this mont, an unfamiliar call ca in; Ivy Sumrs sensed it was from the person who had sent her the photo.
Ivy Sumrs hung up on Damien and imdiately answered the call.
She took a deep breath, "Hello."
"Miss Sumrs, correct?"
"Yes, it’s ."
"Did you see the photo?"
Ivy Sumrs clenched her back teeth, "What do you want?"
"I’ll give you an address. You co alone now, don’t call the police, or I can’t guarantee your child’s life. And don’t think about asking for help; your every move is being watched by us right now."
"Don’t hurt the child!"
"Then you need to behave."
Ivy Sumrs, "Let hear the child’s voice, let be sure she’s okay."
"Is Miss Sumrs bargaining with ?"
Ivy Sumrs was walking out quickly while insisting, "If you want to co over, let be sure my child is okay."
The other person sneered, kicked an iron cage, and said to the person inside, "Hey, kid, say sothing to your mom."
Sophie heard they wanted Ivy Sumrs to co to rescue her, and she refused to speak no matter what.
Ivy Sumrs tightened her voice, "Sophie? Sophie, are you okay? Say sothing..."
Hearing Ivy Sumrs’ voice clearly, Sophie finally couldn’t help but raise her head and softly whimper, "Mommy..."
Although her voice was small, the fully attentive Ivy Sumrs still heard it.
The man on the other side said, "You heard her, now you can rest assured, Miss Sumrs."
"Who are you people?" Ivy Sumrs was already in the car; her eyes narrowed, "You’re the ones who kidnapped Sophie before, aren’t you?"
The other side chuckled twice.
The address was quickly sent over, and the call was also disconnected.
Ivy Sumrs wanted to call back, but it wouldn’t connect anymore.
The air conditioner was running in the car, and the cold wind blew over Ivy Sumrs’ body.
Ivy Sumrs bit her lips tightly, unable to accept, leaning on the steering wheel for a long ti before fully accepting the fact that Sophie had fallen into those hands again.
Sophie had been kidnapped before, and although she didn’t show any obvious psychological trauma, there was definitely a shadow over her mind.
Ivy Sumrs couldn’t imagine what it was like for Sophie to be alone with those people.
So even though Ivy Sumrs knew it would be dangerous, she couldn’t abandon Sophie.
The car turned a corner and quickly sped off.
It took Ivy Sumrs just over an hour to reach the designated location from the Lancaster Family estate, a trip that would typically take two hours.
Ivy Sumrs parked the car, and when she got out, apart from her cellphone, she had a backup phone and a folding knife in her inner pocket.
This was already a remote suburb, and raining made it even more deserted with no one around.
Soon, two n appeared behind Ivy Sumrs and imdiately covered her head with a black hood.
Ivy Sumrs heard footsteps behind her but didn’t resist.
Quickly, she was placed in a car, traveled for an unknown period, and finally, the car ca to a stop.
She heard the heavy sound of an iron door opening.
After entering, her hood was removed, and the sudden light made Ivy Sumrs uncomfortable. She only heard the other side say, "Quite brave, indeed," and then her cellphone was taken from her pocket, and she was shoved into a dark room.
The room was enclosed with rusty iron sheets, filled with a strong iron sll.
Ivy Sumrs lunged forward, "Sophie?"
"Can’t you see for yourself?"
With that said, the man took a photo of her and imdiately closed the iron door.
At that mont, Ivy Sumrs heard a soft, "Mommy..."
Ivy Sumrs turned back and saw Sophie curled up in the corner.
Ivy Sumrs imdiately rushed over and held Sophie tightly, "Sophie?"
Sophie, nestled in her mommy’s arms, let the grievances and discomfort in her heart overflow, tears pouring out.
Ivy Sumrs tried to comfort Sophie, "Don’t be afraid, Sophie. Mommy is with you. Don’t be afraid."
Sophie’s face pressed against Ivy Sumrs’ chest, and Ivy suddenly realized Sophie’s face was burning hot.
Clearly, Sophie had a fever.
Ivy Sumrs imdiately checked if Sophie had any other injuries.
Fortunately, everything else seed fine.
Ivy Sumrs kissed Sophie’s forehead with heartache, "Don’t be afraid, Mommy is with you. Mommy will find a way to get you out."
Ivy Sumrs took out the cellphone she had prepared, but frustratingly, there was no signal here.
Ivy Sumrs gritted her teeth, trying to get close to the iron sheet. This kind of iron sheet wasn’t soundproof, and due to the warehouse’s emptiness, voices echoed, so she could clearly hear voices from outside.
As she had observed when entering, there were many people, but now there were few voices, leading Ivy Sumrs to analyze that they might be speaking secretly around her.
And this iron sheet room was possibly ant to store parts in this warehouse, located at the very corner of the warehouse.
Such warehouses usually have a front door and a back door.
Which ant, if they were in the back of the warehouse, a back door should not be far away.
The few voices she just heard probably ca from two people left at the door to guard them.
Having analyzed this, Ivy Sumrs gritted her teeth, crouched down, and looked at Sophie, lowering her voice, "Sophie, do you trust Mommy?"
Sophie nodded vigorously.
"Good, then listen to Mommy, Mommy will take you out!"
Ivy Sumrs knew that they were doing this under Rachel Shaw’s orders, and Rachel likely wanted their lives.
She couldn’t sit still and wait for death.
She had to escape with Sophie.
After making preparations for more than ten minutes, Sophie suddenly collapsed.
Seeing Sophie’s pale face, Ivy Sumrs scread in terror, "Sophie! Sophie! What happened to you? Say sothing to Mommy... Sophie... Help... help!"
Hearing the commotion inside, the iron door was opened, and the two n glanced at the unconscious Sophie. One of them was about to check but was stopped by the other, "Be careful; it might be a trap."
Ivy Sumrs cried more desperately while Sophie lay motionless, her little face looking even paler in the dim environnt.
"This child can’t die, we can’t handle the consequences if she dies, and why fear a woman who can’t even fend for herself?"
With that, one man went in to check, subconsciously lowering his guard because Ivy Sumrs seed defenseless, crouching down to check Sophie’s pulse.
At that mont, Ivy Sumrs swiftly took out the folding knife she had been clutching tightly in her palm and stabbed the man in the neck.
After the incident in Yrador, Noah Scott had told her.
If faced with life-threatening danger, aim for the opponent’s neck if there is a chance.
The neck is the most vulnerable part; stab as hard as possible.
