Ivy Sumrs widened her eyes in horror.
The man said, "Shh."
Ivy Sumrs nodded.
The man let her go, and Ivy took a step back. "Zachary Lancaster, what are you doing!"
Zachary Lancaster raised an eyebrow, casually leaning to the side. "Sis-in-law, shouldn’t I be asking you this? What are you doing with a man this late at night? Seducing him?"
Ivy Sumrs turned around and looked ahead. The man stopped by the roadside, and a van ca over to pick him up.
Ivy Sumrs gritted her teeth, took out her phone, snapped a picture, and sent it to the police, then looked at Zachary Lancaster. "You seem more like the seducer, hiding here late at night. Why weren’t you seen at Grandpa’s birthday banquet inside?"
Zachary Lancaster chuckled, "Didn’t I see you all scheming in there, so I ca out for so fresh air? You haven’t said what you’re doing with that man? Did he owe you money?"
Ivy Sumrs’ expression turned colder, "He owes a life! That person is a kidnapper who kidnapped Sophie before."
"I have heard of this incident, but it’s none of your business. Sophie has a mom and the police. Why are you taking risks late at night?"
"? Isn’t it okay for to fight evil? Besides, the police said they’re a group of kidnappers, organized, specializing in abducting and trafficking children. Helping the police catch them is benefiting humanity."
Ivy Sumrs started to walk back, and Zachary Lancaster chuckled and followed.
"Sis-in-law is so righteous."
"But, sis-in-law, did you ever think that if I hadn’t stopped you, you might have been pulled into that van?"
Kidnappers, a bunch of savage fugitives, are always tense, with hearing more sensitive than average. So if Ivy Sumrs was following, that man probably noticed.
"I know."
Ivy Sumrs was aware, but she believed taking the risk was worth it to catch them quickly.
Then the original police officer ssaged her back, saying they would imdiately investigate.
Ivy Sumrs sighed, not knowing whether they would catch him this ti.
The two previously caught didn’t expose Rachel Shaw; this ti, catching this person might be an opportunity.
Ivy Sumrs collected her thoughts and returned to the old manor to find Damien Lancaster.
"Damien Lancaster, let’s talk."
Damien Lancaster raised his gaze, his calm and indifferent eyes looking at her, "About what?"
"If you can’t take care of Sophie, let do it."
"Annelise Lancaster won’t enter the villa anymore, you can be at ease."
At ease?
How can Ivy Sumrs be at ease?
Ivy Sumrs took a deep breath, "Damien, you promised Ella Morgan to take care of Sophie for a while, can you do it properly?"
Damien Lancaster saw her anxious deanor, his gaze deepened, a faint confusion arising between his brows. "So concerned? Your anger didn’t resemble caring for soone else’s child; rather, it seed like worrying for your own."
Ivy Sumrs was unperturbed, "Shouldn’t I be angry? Do you think everyone is cold-blooded like you?"
Damien Lancaster didn’t respond.
Ivy Sumrs, thinking of how Annelise mistreated Sophie, felt enraged, "Damien, you saw how those kids bullied Sophie. If it were your child, would you endure seeing her treated like that?"
No response from Damien Lancaster.
Silence ensued.
Damien Lancaster slightly frowned, a touch of coldness creeping into his eyes as he looked at Ivy Sumrs’ angry face. With a cold smile, he said, "Unfortunately, she’s not."
Ivy Sumrs clenched her molars, "So you can be indifferent to her being bullied? If that’s how it is, give her to ."
Another silence.
They stared at each other; every ti the topic of children arose, the atmosphere turned tense.
Because children were always a thorn between them.
"I understand, I will take care of her."
Damien Lancaster stepped forward to leave, but Ivy Sumrs blocked his path, "The man who kidnapped Sophie appeared tonight. If you’re not giving Sophie to , at least ensure her safety, have soone pick her up from school."
Damien Lancaster frowned, "You an the one who escaped at the ti?"
"Yes, that person appeared near the old manor today, strangely. I’ve reported it to the police, but I’m not sure if they can catch him."
After all, the police said these people are pros at this, with strong anti-detection skills.
Damien Lancaster nodded at her words, "I understand."
Once done speaking, Ivy Sumrs said, "It’s getting late, I have things to do. I’ll head back."
Damien Lancaster stepped forward, "I’ll escort you."
"No need."
Damien Lancaster grabbed her wrist, his previously cold face softened as he looked down at her. He said, "Mrs. Lancaster, it’s Old Master Lancaster’s birthday banquet today, at least act like a loving couple."
Ivy Sumrs lifted her head, "Didn’t expect Mr. Lancaster to love acting so much?"
"For Grandpa’s happiness, no?"
Damien Lancaster wrapped an arm around Ivy Sumrs’ waist, leading her towards Old Master Lancaster.
Ivy Sumrs tried to break free from his embrace, only to be held tighter, pressed together.
Ivy Sumrs pushed him, Damien Lancaster looked down at her, reminded her, "Smile."
Ivy Sumrs gritted her teeth, forced a smile, "Grandpa knows what situation we’re in now, who are you putting on this act for?"
"Maybe Grandpa thinks we’ve reconciled, it might comfort him."
"Three years without getting better, and suddenly he’s cured overnight? Grandpa’s sick, not senile."
Damien Lancaster looked at Ivy Sumrs’ false smile and curved his lips into a grin, "It’s good to trick the old man a little."
As they approached Old Master Lancaster, Ivy Sumrs compromised.
To outsiders, the couple seed to be chatting and laughing, appearing exceptionally affectionate.
After saying a word to the old man, Damien Lancaster took Ivy Sumrs outside. Once outside, Ivy Sumrs broke free from his embrace.
"The show is over, you can leave now."
"I’ll drive you ho."
"Drunk driving, be careful or I’ll call the cops on you."
The driver brought the car over, Ivy Sumrs opened the car door, and Damien Lancaster raised his hand to block it.
At that mont, the sound of soone falling ca from behind.
Rachel Shaw, rushing while using crutches, fell on the ground awkwardly.
Ivy Sumrs glanced at her and turned her gaze back to Damien Lancaster, "What are you looking at? Your beloved fell, aren’t you going to help her up?"
After saying this, Ivy Sumrs opened the car door.
Damien Lancaster pressed down on the car door again, "I said she’s not my beloved, and you don’t have to use her against every ti. I’ve told you I don’t want to divorce you, and you should understand my feelings for you."
"What feelings for ? Damien Lancaster, back when we were together, you didn’t cherish it. Now that I don’t want you, you’re clinging on to , right? Do you know what this is called? It’s called being shaless!"
After saying this, Ivy Sumrs forcefully opened the car door and left.
Damien Lancaster stood in place, watching the car drive off in front of him.
In his ears, Ivy Sumrs’ two words still echoed.
Shaless!
He really was shaless.
Damien Lancaster turned to look at Rachel Shaw, who was struggling to get up from the ground.
Rachel Shaw was panicked; she didn’t expect to fall so awkwardly. At this mont, a pair of high-end n’s leather shoes appeared in front of her.
Rachel Shaw looked up, staring at Damien Lancaster, her eyes reddened, looking pitiful.
"Damien..."
Damien Lancaster’s face was cold and indifferent as he stared at her, his thin lips parted slightly, "Your Shaw Family is quite bold."
"Damien, I... Uncle Lancaster saw I was hurt and allowed to stay in the country a few more days. With Grandpa Lancaster’s birthday banquet, I thought I’d leave after attending the banquet."
"Is that so?" Damien Lancaster’s tone was cold, "Now that you’ve attended the old man’s birthday banquet, you can leave. Don’t wait for to handle it personally."
After saying this, Damien Lancaster lifted his foot and left.
Rachel Shaw bit her lip and lowered her head, feeling aggrieved as she watched Damien Lancaster.
Damien Lancaster, you really are heartless.
Rachel Shaw sat on the ground for a while before struggling to get up. At this mont, her phone rang.
Rachel Shaw took out her phone from her bag, looked at it, and angrily hung up.
After taking two steps, the call ca in again.
Rachel Shaw bit her teeth, walked to a secluded place, and answered the phone.
She lowered her voice and angrily questioned, "Why are you still contacting ? Haven’t you idiots caused enough trouble?"
The man on the other side, "Miss Shaw, after all these calls, you’ve finally decided to answer."
"What do you want?"
"Because of the job you involved in, the police are now searching for all over the city. I can’t even leave Aethelgard. If this continues, I’ll get caught sooner or later. If I do get caught, don’t expect to cover for you like those other two."
Rachel Shaw’s eyes turned sinister, "Are you threatening ?"
"No, how could this be a threat? I’m rely reminding you to save yourself. Can we et?"
"Not convenient. I’ve already paid the money I promised you. If you can’t leave Aethelgard, that’s your own incompetence. Don’t call again."
Rachel Shaw was about to hang up when the man on the other end said, "If Miss Shaw doesn’t co, I’ll have to find you. Oh no, I’ve already been to see you at Old Master Lancaster’s grand birthday banquet."
"You!" Rachel Shaw was extrely panicked, "Are you crazy? Do you dare go to the Lancaster Family, not fearing for your life?"
"I’ll send you an address in a mont. If you don’t co, I’ll visit the Lancaster Family again."
"Hey, hey..."
The call was hung up by the other side, and a mont later, an address was sent over.
Rachel Shaw stared at the address, nearly smashing her phone in anger.
Useless and damned scum. She’d spent money, yet Ivy Sumrs and Sophie were fine, while she was implicated. Now this person dared to threaten her.
Damned!
Truly damned!
Rachel Shaw didn’t want to wade into this ss anymore, but she feared these desperados might bring her down with them, so in the end, she had no choice but to et him.
One hour later.
In an abandoned warehouse, it was pitch-black inside. Upon entry, the sll of mold from the rain hit her nose.
Rachel Shaw, using her crutch, walked slowly. Suddenly, a yellow light ca on in front, swaying in the breeze blowing through the cracks, flickering in and out among many n who appeared ahead, all with malicious intent and holding weapons.
Rachel Shaw felt a chill down her spine. As she turned to run, it was too late; she was shoved to the ground.
