Chapter 426: Chapter 463 Below

Chapter Four Hundred Sixty-Three

Long Xiaoshan drove his car to Baixi Village, a large village with a population of over a thousand, where the Su surna was predominant.

There was a brook in the village known as Bai Xi, from which the village got its na.

Su Wan’s ho was located in the west of the village, right beside the Bai Xi river. It was a three-story tiled house with red brick walls that hadn’t been plastered over.

On his way there, Long Xiaoshan had taken in the situation of Baixi Village.

It was certainly better than Longyang Village had been before, but not by much. Over half the houses were still those mud-brick ones built in the ’70s and ’80s. A brick and tile house was considered quite decent.

Long Xiaoshan parked the car at the entrance.

Father Su opened the large gate of the courtyard, and Long Xiaoshan and the others went in. On one side of the yard, chickens and ducks were raised, and the air was filled with the sll of poultry manure. On the other side, there was a small plot of land with so vegetables growing, firewood was stacked in the corner of the wall, and farm tools like harrows, hoes, and shoulder poles were placed near the door—a typical large rural courtyard.

Father Su, rubbing his hands together in slight embarrassnt, said, “Xiaoshan, the house is a bit dirty and the sll is strong. You city folks might not be used to it, please bear with us.”

Long Xiaoshan smiled and replied, “Uncle, you are mistaken. I’m also from the countryside. My house was much worse than this before; we had paper windows and the roof leaked whenever it rained. Aren’t you satisfied with this three-story tiled house?”

“Really?” Father Su said with a smile, his face wrinkling up, “I really couldn’t tell. You look so clean, not like a country person at all. Actually, how could I afford to build a house? It’s all because little Wan is thinking of the family. She earned the money and built this house.”

“Yes, we have really relied on little Wan these years. Ah, it’s just that we’re of no great ability. That year, little Wan had such good grades in her college entrance exams. She placed sixth in the city, and she even received an acceptance letter from Sichuan University. But that year I injured my back, and little Wan gave up on university to go work and earn money,” Mother Su said, wiping tears from her eyes.

“Mom, that’s all water under the bridge now. Why do you keep bringing that up?” Su Wan quickly interjected.

“Alright, let’s not talk about it anymore.”

The family walked into the main room and sat down. Mother Su then said, “You all sit for a while. I’ll go cook sothing for you to eat.”

“Auntie, I’m not hungry. Please, you should rest.”

“No, it’s necessary,” insisted Mother Su warmly.

Unable to refuse, Mother Su went to the stove to boil water and cook. Su Wu, covered in blood, went to bathe. Father Su went to the yard to fetch firewood. Long Xiaoshan sat in the main room while Su Wan brewed him a cup of tea.

“Must be tough, huh?” Long Xiaoshan suddenly said.

“What?” Su Wan looked over.

Long Xiaoshan pointed at the house and said with a look of compassion, “The feeling of supporting a family all on your own.”

Su Wan’s body trembled slightly and, placing the teacup in front of Long Xiaoshan, she said, “What’s tough? Once you get used to it, it doesn’t feel hard anymore.”

“Is that so? You were crying in the car just now,” said Long Xiaoshan as he patted his sturdy arm and continued, “If you feel too tired, you can always lean on Sister Su Wan’s shoulder.”

Su Wan looked into Long Xiaoshan’s deep, dark eyes, nearly losing herself in them for a mont. Then, biting her tongue hard, she said, “Go deceive other won. I’m not falling for a playboy like you.”

Long Xiaoshan said with a wry smile, “Sister Wan, you have a prejudice against .”

“Do I?” Su Wan said with a coy smile, “Then tell , how many girlfriends do you have right now?”

Long Xiaoshan groaned.

He really couldn’t casually say that he didn’t have any girlfriends at all; he might be fickle, but he always despised deceiving won with sweet talk and lies.

Fortunately, at that mont, Father Su brought in the firewood, sparing Long Xiaoshan from having to answer the question.

About ten minutes later.

Mother Su finished cooking the noodles and served them to Long Xiaoshan and the others, topped with a poached egg and sprinkled with so green onions.

Long Xiaoshan practically slurped down the entire bowl of noodles and said, “Auntie’s noodles are really delicious.”

That comnt made Mother Su beam with happiness, she said, “Xiaoshan, if you like it, feel free to co by and eat more often.”

Admiring the sweet-talking and handso Long Xiaoshan, the more she looked, the more she liked him, almost feeling like a mother-in-law looking at her son-in-law, she said, “Actually, little Wan’s cooking is also quite good. In the future, ah, just let little Wan cook noodles for you.”

“I would love to, but I’m afraid I’m not that fortunate, Sister Su Wan, don’t you think?” Long Xiaoshan turned his head and winked as he spoke.

Su Wu almost spit out the noodles from his mouth back into his bowl.

Su Wan hadn’t felt anything was amiss at first, but seeing Su Wu trying to hold back his laughter, her face suddenly turned red, and she glared at Long Xiaoshan. She then shoveled more than half of the noodles and egg from her bowl into Long Xiaoshan’s and said, “Just eat your food; even with sothing to eat, nothing seems to shut you up.”

After finishing the noodles.

It was almost ten o’clock, and Su Wan took Long Xiaoshan upstairs, entering a very clean room with an unmistakable feminine touch, and said, “You will sleep here tonight.”

“I’m sleeping here? Whose room is this?” Long Xiaoshan surveyed the pink bedding on the Xingsi mattress.

“Mine,” Su Wan said, her face reddening.

“I’m sleeping in your room!” After a mont of surprise, Long Xiaoshan’s eyes glead with excitent as he rubbed his hands together.

“What are you thinking? Since my sister and I don’t co ho often, we share this room. There are only three beds in our house, we can’t have you, a guest, squeeze into a bed with my brother, can we? So, my mom and I will share a bed, and my dad will bunk with my brother. This bed can only be for you,” she explained.

Before Su Wan had finished speaking, Long Xiaoshan had already thrown open his arms, plunged onto the bed, buried his head in the pillow, and took a deep breath.

“What are you doing?” Su Wan was startled by Long Xiaoshan’s actions.

Turning over, Long Xiaoshan squinted his eyes and said with evident bliss, “It slls like Sister Wan…”

“I can’t be bothered with you, you nutcase.” Su Wan, flushed with embarrassnt and feeling an inexplicable warmth in her heart, quickly grabbed so change of clothes from the wardrobe and left.

About seven or eight minutes later.

Su Wan walked in carrying a basin with a towel and a toothbrush on top.

By this ti, Su Wan had changed into a set of very traditional and plainly colored howear. It didn’t look bad on her, though. She had washed off her makeup and was bare-faced, losing so of her charm but gaining a bit of purity.

“We don’t have an extra towel, so you’ll have to make do with this one,” Su Wan said, her cheeks slightly red.

Long Xiaoshan held the obviously wrung towel and said, “This couldn’t be Sister Wan’s, could it?”

“If you’re going to use it, just use it. Stop asking so many questions,” Su Wan’s face grew even redder.

“Heh heh,” Long Xiaoshan chuckled, spread the towel over his face, and vigorously wiped his face with it. After that, Long Xiaoshan took off his shirt.

Su Wan asked nervously, “What are you doing?”

“I’m a bit dirty too. Could you help wipe my back?” Long Xiaoshan handed the towel to Su Wan.

Su Wan was incredibly frustrated; Long Xiaoshan really didn’t treat her like an outsider. But considering he had helped her so much today—pretending to be her boyfriend and rescuing her brother—she really couldn’t refuse him.

After stirring the towel in water, Su Wan began to wipe his back. The lines of his strong muscles, even through the towel, traversed under the palm of her hand.
