Chapter 403: Chapter 439 Thoughts of Affection
Chapter Four Hundred Thirty-Nine
“Don’t be afraid. Although they are ghosts, they are different from ordinary ghosts and not as terrifying. They are my friends, and they should be living here with us in the future. So, I wanted you to et them,” Long Xiaoshan said.
Despite his words, the expressions of the won were genuine.
“Big Brother Xiaoshan, this… are you really going to live with ghosts? That’s so scary,” Long Shiyu burrowed her head desperately into Long Xiaoshan’s embrace, sticking out a round and perky bottom, looking like a quail.
“Don’t be scared, don’t be scared. Once you see them, you’ll understand. Besides, don’t you trust ?” Long Xiaoshan coaxed.
The won finally cald down a little.
All of them stood behind Long Xiaoshan, each gripping onto his clothes or arm as if this would bolster their courage. Long Xiaoshan didn’t waste any more words and took out the Black Soul Banner, giving it a shake, and said, “Brother Yue, little Ning, please co out.”
A gust of cold wind arose.
The won, terrified, closed their eyes, and only partially opened them after Long Xiaoshan’s continuous reassurance.
The room was dimly lit, and two figures stood there, one a handso young man and the other a pretty girl.
When the won actually saw them, they realized it was completely different from what they had imagined.
Originally, they thought they would be eting ghastly ghosts with green faces and long tongues or pallid complexions. But these so-called spirits looked almost like ordinary people, just a bit ethereal upon closer inspection.
“See, they’re not scary at all. Brother Yue is a descendant of Yue Wumu. As for little Ning, her background is also extraordinary. You don’t have to be afraid, and I will tell you more about them later.”
Little Ning, looking bewildered and frightened, hid behind Yue Ling.
While Chun Tao and the others feared ghosts, little Ning was also afraid of humans.
“Little Ning, co here,” Long Xiaoshan called. Little Ning shuffled forward and said timidly, “Big Brother Long.”
Although Yue Ling could suppress the Ghost Qi, he was still a Ghost King, and hence, imposing to ordinary people.
Little Ning was different, being a Spiritual Body, unlike ordinary spirits. She emitted no Ghost Qi but instead had a pure aura, which instantly cald the won. They felt that not only was this spirit not at all frightening, but there was also a sense of closeness and peace.
Long Shiyu huddled in Long Xiaoshan’s arms and stealthily opened her eyes, scrutinizing the young female ghost in front of her. The more she looked, the more endearing she found her. It was as if there was an aura inside her that felt very familiar, and she was no longer very afraid.
She asked, “What’s your na, sister?”
Little Ning saw Long Shiyu was about her age, at least in appearance, and also sensed a Pure Yin aura from her, which made her feel close as well. She whispered, “My na is little Ning.”
Long Xiaoshan patted Long Shiyu’s bottom and said, “Little Yu, get up and play with little Ning. Don’t be afraid, little Ning won’t hurt you. Actually, she is quite pitiful…”
Long Xiaoshan recounted little Ning’s experiences.
He spoke of how little Ning, a ghost, had wandered for decades, forgotten her past life mories, and was nearly refined by a human Taoist. She managed to live with a group of Resentful Spirits for a few years, but now Long Xiaoshan had perford the Salvation Rite for those spirits, leaving her alone.
Shen Yuerong, Chun Tao, and Jin Lian couldn’t help but feel sympathetic, with tears welling up in their eyes.
“It’s so pitiful, to drift alone for so long, so lonely, with no friends, no family… Just thinking about it is terrifying.” Their last bit of fear and concern was washed away by their sympathy.
They gathered around little Ning, but since Ning was a spiritual body, they couldn’t touch her.
“Sister Ning, don’t be afraid, and you won’t be alone anymore. From now on, you can be with us, how lively it will be,” Long Shiyu reached out to pull little Ning, and actually managed to lift her hand.
Long Xiaoshan was surprised that Long Shiyu could actually lift little Ning’s hand.
Then he thought that it might have sothing to do with her Pure Yin Body constitution.
Little Ning was also very happy; she felt a special closeness to Long Shiyu and felt like they were of similar age. The two young girls quickly started talking.
Long Xiaoshan breathed a sigh of relief; he had been concerned that little Ning might not be able to blend in with them, but now that worry had vanished.
“Brother Yue…” Long Xiaoshan introduced Yue Ling to Shen Yuerong and the others.
Shen Yuerong had actually seen Yue Ling before; he was the one who had kidnapped Shen Yuerong’s Taoist and his Hundred Ghosts Banner. However, Yue Ling had completely changed since then, and after undergoing the Heavenly Tribulation, he had beco a Ghost King, at least in appearance, having regained his forr look.
With the precedent set by little Ning,
it was much easier for everyone to accept Yue Ling.
Moreover, Yue Ling was the descendant of a loyal and good official, and although there was no necessary connection, this identity made the won feel as if Yue Ling was full of righteousness and not like a bad person.
Yue Ling stayed for a while, then turned into a gust of darkness and disappeared; he was a Ghost King, and his Ghost Qi was too heavy to be close to people, and since this place was full of Long Xiaoshan’s won, it was awkward for him as an outsider, so he simply left to cultivate.
Little Ning stayed behind.
Being a spiritual body, even if little Ning contacted people, she wouldn’t cause them to absorb Ghost Qi.
Long Xiaoshan let the two young girls play by themselves.
Watching Shen Yuerong, then Jin Lian and Chun Tao, looking left, right, up, and down, made the three won feel as if tiny bugs were crawling on their skin, making them itchy all over, deep into their bones and hearts.
“What are you looking at? As if you’ve never seen us before. Be careful, I’ll dig out those goggling eyes of yours,” Shen Yuerong finally couldn’t help but say in a sowhat coy tone.
As a noblewoman from the Capital City, she had a considerable temper, usually suppressed in the political arena, only showing her true nature around those she was close with.
“Tsk tsk, Sister Yuerong, do you really have the heart?” Long Xiaoshan said, grinning wickedly.
“What’s there for to mind? You’re not my boyfriend, let alone my husband. I couldn’t care less; not one bit. I wish you’d go blind, so you wouldn’t go all hormonal every ti you see a beautiful woman,” Shen Yuerong said loudly, but her voice beca less certain as she spoke.
Especially under the strange looks from Jin Lian and Chun Tao, she couldn’t continue.
Jin Lian’s gaze was aningful, and Chun Tao wasn’t the naive girl she used to be. Living in the city had made her mature quickly, and she always felt that there was sothing more than just friendship between Shen Yuerong and Long Xiaoshan, definitely not the usual male-female relationship.
“Taozi, Jin Lian, don’t misunderstand,” Shen Yuerong said, waving her hands, “I’m speaking up for you, blaming this fellow for his awful gaze.”
Jin Lian smiled, ca over, and embraced Shen Yuerong’s hand, “We’re not misunderstanding, you did well scolding him. He really is terrible, and Yuerong, if you can keep him in check, that would be best. You have higher authority, and he’s just a little village chief under you; however detestable he might be, he wouldn’t dare to disobey you.”
Chun Tao looked hesitant, but soon, her face lit up with a relieved smile. She knew she was just a young widow and was already grateful to be with Xiaoshan. She had promised Mother He that she wouldn’t interfere if Xiaoshan married soone else in the future, so if Xiaoshan truly got together with Shen Yuerong, she wouldn’t mind, and would actually be happy for Xiaoshan. Shen Yuerong was noble and beautiful, a fine lady from the Capital City; she was quite a match for Xiaoshan.
