Chapter Two Hundred Forty-four

"There really are ghosts!" Bai Xuehen stepped into the yard, looking here and there, "Where’s the ghost?"

"I told you, I’ve driven them away," Long Xiaoshan said proudly.

"Big Brother Xiaoshan, you’re amazing. You could be a charlatan," Bai Xuehen said with a pursed smile.

"What charlatan? I’m a grandmaster, you know. I can do fortune-telling and divination, Golden Needle Point Determination, anything!" Long Xiaoshan huffed.

"Pfft—" Bai Xuehen’s face was full of disdain.

"You don’t believe ? Then let read your palm; I offer a tenfold refund for any falsehood," Long Xiaoshan said.

"Pfft, a tenfold refund, as if you’re selling fake dicine," Bai Xuehen laughed.

"You don’t believe , give your hand," Long Xiaoshan said earnestly, exuding a faint aura of a superior being.

Practicing the Longevity Art, his True Qi began to circulate, and his deanor suddenly changed, making him seem like an ethereal Heavenly Being, startling Bai Xuehen, who couldn’t help but extend her hand, muttering, "Fine, I’ll let you have a look."

Long Xiaoshan grabbed Bai Xuehen’s flawless, snow-white hands.

Her palms were beautiful, fair and delicate like jade, especially her fingers, which were particularly long, soft at the tips, with nails like transparent shells; her hands felt soft in Long Xiaoshan’s grasp.

Long Xiaoshan held her hand, pretended to study her palm lines for a long ti, then suddenly exclaid, "Good!"

Bai Xuehen was startled, "Good what? You’re always startling people."

"I just saw that your love line is very favorable, and this year, your destined love will appear. From your palm lines, tell , were you born on the seventh day of the fourth lunar month at the hour of You?"

"Yes, how did you know?" Bai Xuehen exclaid in surprise.

Indeed, her birthday was on the seventh day of the fourth lunar month at the hour of You.

Long Xiaoshan didn’t respond but, with a Grandmaster’s deanor, murmured and calculated before slapping his thigh, "I’ve got it! Your fated person was born on the ninth day of the eighth lunar month at the hour of Hai and is exactly two years older than you. You two are like heavenly stems matching earthly branches, yin and yang in harmony, a once-in-a-century mandarin duck and butterfly fate. This combination of birth elents is rare in a century, born out of past life karma. Once you et, you will definitely fall in love, and after marriage, you’ll have imnse happiness, with the man bringing prosperity to his wife and vice versa. In short, it doesn’t get better than this."

Bai Xuehen was dumbfounded by Long Xiaoshan’s smooth talk.

She was sowhat panicked, saying, "Is it true?"

Though an atheist, not buying into any of these mystical notions,

What Long Xiaoshan said was too enigmatic, seemingly profound, and he even managed to predict her birth date and ti.

But she was afraid,

What she hated most was this notion of things being predestined.

What if the guy wasn’t to her liking at all?

And she hadn’t prepared for anything yet.

While Bai Xuehen’s mind was racing,

Long Xiaoshan spoke up again, "Do you want to know where the man born on the ninth day of the eighth lunar month at the hour of Hai is?"

A flicker of unrest passed over Bai Xuehen’s face. She wanted to say no, but driven by an overwhelming curiosity, blurted out, "Where?"

Long Xiaoshan pretended to calculate then burst into laughter, "Great, I’ve figured out this person; far in the horizon yet near at hand..."

Suddenly, a cold voice cut in, "Stop fooling around, Bai Susu, you see your daughter being bamboozled by this darn fool and you don’t step in."

Unbeknownst to them, Song Yi had co out, standing in the doorway of the main room.

"What fooling around," Long Xiaoshan snorted. "You’ve seen my skills before."

Song Yi scoffed and extended her finger, pretending to calculate as she suddenly exclaid, "Ah, I’ve figured it out too. The person born on the ninth day of the eighth lunar month at the hour of Hai is you, right?"

"Uh." Long Xiaoshan gave a sheepish smile.

Bai Xuehen was a clever person and imdiately understood she had been played by Long Xiaoshan.

Fuming, she kicked Long Xiaoshan’s leg hard, "Jerk."

Long Xiaoshan winced in pain and hopped around holding his foot.

He glared at Song Yi forcefully.

Song Yi ignored him and turned to say coldly, "Bai Susu, what are you doing here again?"

Bai Susu was not offended by Song Yi’s tone and said gently, "Song Yi, you’re alright now, aren’t you?"

Song Yi said, "I’m not going to die, and I’ve told you before, don’t co into my house anymore."

"Hey! How can you talk like that?" Long Xiaoshan was not pleased. Between Bai Susu and Song Yi, he would obviously choose Bai Susu. Hearing Song Yi’s rude tone towards Bai Susu, he stepped forward.

"How I speak is none of your business," Song Yi replied.

"Damn, are you on your period?" Long Xiaoshan retorted with venom.

"You..." Song Yi turned pale.

"Little Xiaoshan, how can you talk to Auntie Song like that? Don’t be like this," Bai Susu quickly said.

Long Xiaoshan scratched his head; he also felt that he had gone a bit too far.

"That... sorry!"

Song Yi snapped, "Bai Susu, spare your fake kindness."

For so reason, seeing Long Xiaoshan being so obedient to Bai Susu made Song Yi even angrier.

"Look at my temper..." Long Xiaoshan thought this woman needed to be put in her place.

Bai Susu quickly pulled on Long Xiaoshan, "Xiaoshan, don’t. Song Yi, I wronged you that year, but it’s been so many years, he’s long gone, it’s been almost twenty years. Can’t we let it be the past?"

"I can’t let it go, Bai Susu, get out, get out!" Song Yi, with tears streaming down her face, shouted pointing at the door.

Bai Susu sighed.

She took Long Xiaoshan and Bai Xuehen and started to leave.

Long Xiaoshan, not understanding the situation, could only be pulled along to leave.

After they walked out, Bai Xuehen asked, "Mom, what exactly happened between you and Auntie Song?"

Long Xiaoshan pricked up his ears.

This was sothing he wanted to ask as well, but since he was an outsider, it wouldn’t be proper for him to butt in. But now that Bai Xuehen had asked, he, too, wanted to hear the answer.

Bai Susu looked sowhat sorrowful.

Seeing this, Bai Xuehen said, "Mom, if it’s too difficult to talk about, let’s forget it."

Bai Susu stopped walking, gazed at the sky, let out a long breath, and said, "It’s all in the past now. I didn’t want to bring it up again, but since you want to know, and you are grown up now, I guess it’s okay to talk about it. This has to do with your dad."

Bai Xuehen was born posthumously and had never t her father.

But upon hearing it involved her dad, she paid closer attention. Bai Susu continued, "Back in the day, Song Yi, your dad, and I were classmates. Song Yi and your dad were childhood sweethearts. When he transferred to our school and also due to our elders’ arrangent, they were betrothed, and Song Yi always liked your dad, growing up believing she would marry him. However, as we grew older, your dad fell in love with . That era’s childhood promises of marriage weren’t taken so seriously; they were just verbal agreents made by elders, so your dad didn’t take it seriously. In college, your dad and I got together."
