Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Three

Xiaoshan had agreed to go with Shangguan Baihe to the city tomorrow to look at dicinal herbs.

Long Xiaoshan hung up the phone.

He continued to examine the items he had taken from Old Taoist Ma.

Before he knew it, it was deep into the night.

Long Xiaoshan quietly left the farm and headed to a remote and rarely visited mountain.

His purpose for being there was nothing other than to conduct a Salvation Rite for the lost souls.

Within the Hundred Ghosts Banner were over a hundred souls, and although these spirits could be used to kill enemies, Long Xiaoshan did not wish to manipulate these souls like the Black Scale Gate did. These souls had been human, bound within the Hundred Ghosts Banner, unable to transcend, which was a tornt for them.

Moreover, conducting a Salvation Rite for lost souls was a deed of great rit.

Long Xiaoshan had experience from last ti when he perford a Salvation Rite for Wang Feng.

This ti, he arranged the altar for the rite as usual.

However, the scale was much larger than before.

Once everything was set up, and as midnight approached—when the yin energy was at its peak—he took out the Hundred Ghosts Banner and began to release the lost souls. Hundreds of souls surged out, filling the surroundings with an eerily cold ghostly aura, accompanied by the wails of ghosts and howls of wolves. Suddenly, an even more terrifying ghost qi burst forth, bringing all the other spirits into submission, and the Ghost General stepped out from the Hundred Ghosts Banner.

Long Xiaoshan could release the hundred ghosts but could not control the Ghost General.

The Ghost General was rely taking shelter within the Hundred Ghosts Banner.

Thus, his stepping out was of his own volition. Seeing the altar Long Xiaoshan had set up, the Ghost General said, "Are you going to help them transcend?"

"Yes, they are pitiful souls, bound here. By helping them transcend, I can enable them to reenter the cycle of reincarnation," Long Xiaoshan replied.

A hint of admiration appeared in the Ghost General's eyes.

A thought struck Long Xiaoshan, and he said, "Would you like to enter the cycle of reincarnation?"

The Ghost General's gaze beca intense, as if pondering the offer, but he shook his head after a mont, "My ghost body has solidified, and my cultivation has borne fruit. In the future, I may not be unable to follow the Path of Longevity. If I were to enter the cycle of reincarnation, all mories of my past life would disperse like smoke, and I would still be struggling within the cycle. I do not wish that."

"That is your choice," Long Xiaoshan said with a smile at the corner of his mouth.

Honestly, he did not wish for the Ghost General to enter the cycle of reincarnation either.

The Ghost General's strength was much greater than his own.

With him around, he himself would be much safer.

"Alright, I'm going to begin the ritual," Long Xiaoshan said, checking the ti, holding the Seven-Star Sword in his hand, and silently reciting the Salvation Rite mantra. He began to perform the ritual by circumambulating the altar.

As the ritual proceeded,

winds arose from nowhere,

and a violent gale ensued.

The moon in the sky gradually beca obscured by dense clouds, and the surroundings beca pitch-black, as if filled with malevolent spirits.

Above the altar, a huge pathway for reincarnation slowly took shape.

At this mont, the spirits within the Hundred Ghosts Banner, drawn by the pathway for reincarnation, began to drift up, showing expressions of relief on their faces.

Before the souls were drawn into the pathway for reincarnation,

they knelt toward Long Xiaoshan, continuously kowtowing in gratitude for his salvation.

At this ti, Long Xiaoshan's expression was solemn, exuding the air of a virtuous and respected Taoist.

As the souls entered the pathway for reincarnation one by one,

Long Xiaoshan felt a massive amount of rit points converging from all directions. The number of these rit points exceeded even his expectations.

Salvaging a hundred people was an act of great virtue.

With the influx of a vast number of rit points into the Virtuous Jade Spiritual Purification Bottle, it suddenly radiated a dazzling divine light in Long Xiaoshan's Divine Sea.

Behind Long Xiaoshan, a Divine Wheel Halo materialized.

This greatly astonished the Ghost General.

The ghost body trembled uncontrollably, and he couldn't help but prostrate himself.

At this mont, he felt as if he were in the presence of a deity spirit.

Imdiately after, a golden Talisman erged from the Jade Purifying Bottle and integrated into Long Xiaoshan's soul.

Boom!

Long Xiaoshan felt a surge of information flood into his Sea of Souls.

His forehead felt scorching once again, and was imdiately followed by the intense pain of sothing tearing open. Clenching his teeth and letting out a low growl, a third eye split open on Xiaoshan's forehead.

If the eye that erged in his battle with Old Taoist Ma was an illusory Spirit Eye,

then now, on Xiaoshan's forehead, a real third eye truly opened.

This eye, with its golden vertical pupil, was ancient and profound, vast and imasurable, as if with the indifference of a deity overlooking the ever-changing vicissitudes of the world.

Divine Skills—Heavenly Eye!

When the Heavenly Eye opened,

Xiaoshan was ecstatic within.

From the wealth of information that had flowed into his soul from the Jade Purifying Bottle, he understood that each ti virtue accumulated to a certain stage, the bottle would bestow upon its master a divine ability; this divine ability was the evolved version of his forr Spirit Eye.

When Xiaoshan acquired the Virtuous Jade Spiritual Purification Bottle, he already had the ability of the Spirit Eye.

But it was a very basic ability, although already very powerful for ordinary people.

Yet, it could not be ntioned in the sa breath as a true divine ability.

And now, after the Salvation Rite of a hundred people,

his accumulated virtue had finally reached the level of a minor deity.

He had gained a true divine ability, the Heavenly Eye.

At the sa ti, the previous envelopnt of divine light allowed Xiaoshan's soul to possess a minor Divine Body.

At this mont, his spiritual body flowed with a faint golden light, the sign of a nascent Divine Body taking form, ready to leave the physical body and roam the void at a re thought.

Defying the heavens!

This is too heaven-defying.

Xiaoshan couldn't help but rejoice.

He had not expected the Virtuous Jade Spiritual Purification Bottle to be sothing simple like condensing Spiritual Liquid and catalyzing everything.

Furthermore, it was an artifact that could confer divinity.

Which is to say, if Xiaoshan were now in the Heavenly Court, he would already be regarded as the most basic level of deity.

Obtaining this treasure was truly a heaven-defying opportunity.

After suppressing the excitent in his heart, Xiaoshan saw the Ghost General prostrate on the ground and asked with curiosity, "What's wrong with you?"

The Ghost General looked up in fear and said with a trembling voice, "Supre God, spare my life."

If the Ghost General had followed Xiaoshan before only out of greed for the Elixir Pills that Xiaoshan concocted, without truly revering him, then now he was truly terrified and in awe.

Because deities naturally have an innate suppression over ghostly beings.

This wasn't about the gap in strength.

It was the laws of Heaven and Earth coalescing, the assembly of the Laws.

At that mont, in the eyes of the Ghost General, Xiaoshan was not a re mortal but a figure bathed in imasurable divine light, majestic and tall, as if a Heavenly Deity had descended from the higher realms, too dazzling for mortal eyes.

After a mont's thought, Xiaoshan understood.

The information given to him by the Jade Purifying Bottle was sufficient for him to understand divine abilities and deities.

He willed his mind, withdrawing the Heavenly Eye, restoring his forehead back to its smooth appearance.

Then he used Divine Arts to conceal his deity aura.

At this point, in the eyes of the Ghost General, the blinding golden light on Xiaoshan dissipated, and the intense pressure he emitted lessened.

Despite this, facing Xiaoshan, the Ghost General still felt an inherent fear.

Xiaoshan destroyed the altar.

He said to the Ghost General, "We have yet to properly get to know each other. Tell your na and your history when you were alive."

"Supre God, my humble na is Yue Ling. I was a military commander at the end of the Qing dynasty. I died from random gunfire in battle against the Eight-Nation Alliance, and my ancestors were from Tangyin in Xiangzhou," explained the Ghost General Yue Ling.

"Xiangzhou Tangyin..." Xiaoshan's eyes lit up slightly as he said, "Yue Wumu, what relation is he to you?"

"Great General Wumu is my ancestor," Yue Ling replied.

Xiaoshan applauded and saluted with cupped fists saying, "So you are a descendant of a hero. Brother Yue Ling, I offer you my respects."

Xiaoshan was naturally familiar with Yue Fei and held him in great esteem. He never expected the Ghost General to be a descendant of Yue Wumu, which explained why Yue Ling's deanor was so extraordinary and uncommon when they vanquished Old Taoist Ma.
