Chapter 13: eting the Avengers
“Thanks for the al, detective. I should probably get going now.”
“Alright. Take care.”
As expected, nothing really happened.
The two just chatted as they ate and then went their separate ways.
Benjamin also went back ho and sorted the groceries.
Just as he was wondering what to do for the rest of the day, His phone rang.
Natasha was calling.
“Hey, Nat. What’s up?”
“Ben, can you see if there’s a folder on the coffee table? I think I left it at ho.”
“Hm?”
Benjamin turned to look. Sure enough, there was indeed a folder there with a SHIELD logo on it.
“It’s here. Want to bring it to you?”
“Can you?”
“It’s not a problem but…is it fine? Isn’t this so confidential stuff? Can I look at it? Will they even let in? Where are you even?”
Natasha laughed.
“Haha! You have too many questions!”
“Well, I don’t want to get you in trouble.”
“It’s fine. What’s in the folder isn’t too confidential. Just so target profiles and such.”

Benjamin was curious so he took a look.
Suddenly he was shocked.
“Hm? Don’t tell you’re gonna kill this guy?”
“What are you saying? We’re not HYDRA. He’s just a scientist. I was monitoring him for the past few days and also check his background. If he’s clean, SHIELD will try to hire him. That docunt is my report.”

Benjamin wasn’t even able to answer and the call already ended.
He sighed and decided to just go and do it.

Natasha is investigating Reed Richards and he also just happened to et his fiance, Susan.
Benjamin shook his head and went out. He also brought along several dummy folders just in case so as to disguise the actual folder which he placed inside his Inventory.

He placed them in a bag and went out to hail a taxi.
“The Avengers Tower please.”

There were no accidents at all on the way.
Soon, Benjamin stood in front of the Avengers Tower.
He pulled out his phone to call Natasha.
“I’m here.”
“Okay. I’m coming down to get you.”
Inside the Avengers Tower.
Natasha just ended the call and then glared at Tony and the others.
“Ben’s coming here. You guys better act properly!”

When they saw her finally leave, they all sighed in relief.
“Man, why is she scarier than before? I’m kinda curious as to who this Ben guy is now.”
Tony chuckled and casually got himself a drink at the sidebar.
“I am also curious what kind of mighty person he is. Ah, but I am definitely mightier!”
Thor laughed while waving his hamr around.
He had just returned to Earth recently after dealing with so things in Asgard so he was chilling here.
“Guys, trust . You do NOT want to face an angry Nat. Don’t do anything stupid.”
Clint sighed and warned them again.
“It can’t be that bad…right?”
“Capt., between an angry Nat and Captain Marvel…you’d want to go fight Captain Marvel.”

Steve didn’t know what to say to that.
Soon, they saw the doors open again and revealed two figures.
Natasha and Benjamin.
“And here is the lounge where these guys usually laze around. I think you already know them all so I won’t introduce you anymore. Guys, this is my boyfriend, Ben.”
“Hello everyone. Thanks for taking care of Natasha. My na is Benjamin Freed.”
Benjamin nodded to everyone and did a slight bow.
Steve was the first to approach him and shook his hands.
“Good grip you have there. Where are you from?”
“Brooklyn.”
Steve smiled.
“Then we’re from the sa neighborhood. Nice to et you.”
After Steve, Tony approached.
“So you’re Ben huh? Natasha’s been talking about you a lot.”
“Haha, only good things I hope?”
Tony laughed and rolled his eyes.
“So much it's already sickening.”
“Tony!”
Natasha instantly glared at Tony who winced and quickly backed out.
Clint shook his hands as well and squinted his eyes at him.
“You better not make Nat cry or else…”
“Ah, of course.”

Benjamin laughed in his mind at the thought of that.
Next, Bruce ca up and shook his hand.
“Hey. Well, I don’t really know what to say. Good luck.”
“Thanks?”
Benjamin was confused.
Why does this sound like he’s already going to get married?
Then, Thor stepped forward while still holding onto his hamr.
He looked at Benjamin from top to bottom and put down his hamr to shake his hand.
“Thor Odinson. Son of Odin. God of Thunder. It is a pleasure to et you Benjamin of Freed.”
“Likewise.”
Benjamin turned to look at Mjolnir as he was naturally curious about it.
Thor noticed his look and smirked.
“Are you curious about my hamr? Do you want to hold it?”
“Can I?”
“If you can lift it.”
Natasha rolled her eyes beside them.
Here we go again…
Benjamin didn’t mind and grabbed onto the handle.
Then, with a light pull…he lifted the hamr.
Benjamin could feel a surge of power flow through his body.
As if lightning currents filled his veins!
Beside him, Thor and the rest had dumbstruck faces. Especially Thor.
Benjamin ignored them and tossed Mjolnir a few tis in the air and caught it.
“Good hamr.”
After saying that, he handed it back to Thor.
“Ah…thanks…”
Thor still hasn’t quite snapped out of it and could only receive it halfheartedly.
Benjamin chuckled in his mind.
Does this an I’m worthy?

Benjamin didn’t stay for long. After he handed the docunt to Natasha, he left as he didn’t want to bother them anymore.
He also needed to prepare dinner.

“I’m back.”
“Ah Sue! Can you pass that thing over quickly? I’d get it myself but I can’t really stretch my arm all the way over there.”

Susan sighed as she saw Reed still engrossed in his research.
She passed the thing over and didn’t say anything else as she started to sort out the groceries.
Watching them like that, Ben Grimm sighed and shook his head.
“Hey, Suzzie. Did you eat yet?”
“I did. I ate out with soone earlier.”
Susan said in a seemingly loud but not-so-loud voice as if she wanted to be heard by soone else.
However, Reed didn’t reply as if he didn’t hear anything.
Ben kinda felt like he was about to step into a landmine and didn’t know what to say anymore.
At this mont, Johnny appeared and asked without a hint of tact.
“Was it a guy?”
Ben glared at him for asking that but he just had a clueless look.
Susan rolled her eyes but still answered.
“Yeah. We t earlier and chatted a bit. Then he invited for lunch.”
“I see. Can you pass that one please?”

Reed still didn’t react and continued to ask her to pass sothing.
Annoyed, Susan took it and slamd it on his desk.
“Are you not going to react at all when your fiance is having lunch with a stranger!?”
“Oh co on Sue. We both know you didn’t really an anything by it. Stop overreacting.”
“Oh yeah!? Are you still gonna be the sa if I sleep with him then!?”

Reed said without even lifting his head and still focusing on the papers in front of him as he was in the middle of scribbling sothing.

Susan groaned and stord out.

They didn’t say anything more and just left.
Alone, Reed muttered to himself.
“If I just finish this, I can take Sue out to space on a date. I’m sure she’ll like it…then I’ll…”

Benjamin’s phone rang as he was watching TV.
“Hm?”
Looking at the unknown caller, Benjamin raised a brow and answered.
“Hello?”
“Detective? It’s , Susan.”
“Huh? How did you get my number?”
“I went to the 99th Precinct and asked for it there.”
Benjamin was speechless.
Do they just hand out our numbers if soone asked?

“Are you busy?”
“Nope. I’m just chilling right now.”

Benjamin sighed.
It seed sothing happened on her end.
Although Benjamin felt kind of guilty to be drinking with an engaged woman…it seems that Susan will go drink whether he goes or not anyway. At least he can make sure that she doesn’t get harassed by strangers or sothing.

After getting the address, Benjamin called Natasha.
“Nat, I’ll be out to drink with soone tonight.”

Soon, Benjamin got out of the taxi and found the club Susan spoke of.
She was already there standing at the side and being harassed by a few guys.
Seeing that, Benjamin quickly made his way and held Susan’s hand.
“Sorry fellas. She’s with .”
“Hey, took you long enough.”
“I’m here alright? They didn’t harm you, right? Just say the word and I’ll have them arrested. I brought my cuffs with .”
Susan laughed.
“Do you bring that with you everywhere or what?”
“I do. Catching a few petty criminals while outside is sort of normal around here.”
Benjamin chuckled and the two made their way inside.
They ordered so drinks at the bar and found a corner to seat.
The club was relatively full and there weren’t many free seats so they could only choose the one that had one couch for two people to sit on.
“So? Wanna talk about it?”
“Don’t bother. Let’s just drink and have fun!”
“As you wish.”
Just like that, the two drank and chat. Drank and chat. Drank…drank…drank…
Susan had drunk so much that she had already started to lean on Benjamin.
Since Benjamin held back a bit and his tolerance is also higher than normal, he was still able to think straight and hold himself back.
