The party soon started filling up with more people, and among them was Claire, the girl Noah had helped in the library a couple of months ago to prepare for the mock exams.

"Hey," she greeted him, a smile lighting up her face.

"Hello," Noah replied, his tone warm as he returned the smile.

"Why are you here alone?" she asked, glancing around. "Where's Aiden?"

"He went to the toilet, he'll be back soon," Noah answered casually, leaning back in his chair.

"What about you?" he added, tilting his head slightly. "Where are your friends?"

"They're outside parking the car. I just ca in ahead of them," she explained, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

Noah nodded. "I see."

Claire took a seat next to him, her gaze curious. "So, how did you find the exams?"

"They were alright," Noah replied with a small shrug. "What about you?"

"It was very good!" she said, her enthusiasm shining through. "I think I did well enough to get into the university I want."

"That's good," Noah said, his tone encouraging. "Which university are you aiming for?"

"University of Birmingham," she said, her smile widening. "They have a great program for what I want to study."

"Ambitious," Noah comnted. "You're aiming high."

She chuckled lightly. "I figured if I aim high, I'll land sowhere close at least."

Noah nodded, his expression calm but approving. "That's the right mindset."

For a mont, they sat in comfortable silence, the lively hum of the party surrounding them.

"So," Claire said, breaking the pause, "are you excited about what's next? University, new challenges, new people?"

Noah tilted his head thoughtfully. "Excited? Not really. But it doesn't an I'm not looking forward to it, I have a neutral look on it."

Claire nodded her head, "So...do you have a girlfriend yet?"

"Girlfriend? No, I don't." He responded, with a raised eyebrow.

"Why is that? Are you trying to find one in university?" She responded.

"Not really, I'm just not looking for a relationship anyti soon." He said, shrugging.

Aiden returned at that mont, his grin wide as usual. "Ah, Claire's here!" he said, his eyes darting between the two. "Are you trying to steal Noah away from ?" he joked, pulling up a chair.

Claire blushed and rolled her eyes but smiled. "Relax, Aiden. I'm just catching up."

"Well, don't get too comfortable," Aiden teased, mock-serious. "Noah's already booked as my partner-in-cri for the night."

Noah shook his head, his lips twitching into a smile. "You wish."

As they enjoyed themselves, the atmosphere in the party room seed to swell. Conversations overlapped, laughter echoed, and the clinking of glasses added a rhythmic backdrop to the upbeat music.

Suddenly, the door opened, and a figure stepped inside. The buzz of the room dimd slightly as so heads turned to see who had arrived.

Noah's gaze followed the movent, and his eyes locked briefly with Layla's as she entered. She held his gaze for only a mont before quickly averting her eyes and walking over to Mark, who stood chatting near the buffet. She slipped her hand into his, her movents reserved but deliberate.

'She's changed,' Noah mused, noticing her deanour was less fiery and more subdued than he rembered.

Mark, seeing her approach, turned and smiled warmly. He raised his glass and gently squeezed her hand. Continue reading stories on empire

"Hey, everyone," Mark called out, raising his voice above the music. "If I could have your attention for a mont."

The room quieted as Mark stepped forward, his confident tone commanding the group's focus. "To celebrate our graduation and the ti we've spent together, I've decided to cover all the expenses for tonight's gathering! Everything's on ."

Cheers erupted across the room. Many clapped and hollered their thanks, their energy electrifying the air. A few people muttered quietly about how much Mark must have spent, but the general consensus was excitent.

"Mark, you're the man!" soone shouted, and another chid in, "Layla's lucky to have you!"

Mark chuckled, lifting his glass higher. "Enjoy yourselves tonight! Let's make it a night to rember."

The crowd cheered once more, and the festivities continued. People went back to chatting, dancing, and enjoying the food.

Noah leaned back in his chair, watching the scene unfold. Aiden, seated beside him, nudged him with his elbow. "He's really laying it on thick, huh? Do you think he's trying to rewrite his whole story or what?"

Noah smirked, his eyes scanning the room. "Looks like he's trying hard."

As they spoke, a sharp knock on the door interrupted the party once again. This ti, Mark took it upon himself to answer.

"It's probably just a refill on the drinks," he said, moving toward the door.

He opened it to reveal a hotel manager dressed in a sharp uniform, his expression professional but warm. "Hello, sir. I hope the party is going well?"

Mark nodded at the manager, a polite smile on his face. "It's going great. Thanks for checking in."

The manager, a middle-aged man with a neatly pressed uniform and a professional deanour, gave a slight bow. "I just wanted to confirm, sir, that the arrangents for tonight are still on schedule. Is there anything else you'd like us to prepare or adjust?"

Mark shook his head, his tone amiable. "No, everything's perfect. Thanks for asking."

As the manager turned to leave, Mark added, "Oh, and make sure the refill for the drinks cos soon. My classmates are having a blast."

"Of course, sir," the manager replied before walking away.

Mark returned to the party room, where the energy was electric. People were chatting, laughing, and clinking glasses as the upbeat music filled the space. Lily was by the buffet table, chatting with a few friends, and Layla stood near the edge of the room, observing everything quietly.

"Alright, everyone!" Mark said, clapping his hands to grab their attention. "Let's get so gas going, huh? Who's up for a little friendly competition?"

The room cheered in agreent, with people shouting suggestions for gas.

Noah, sitting at his table with Aiden and Claire, leaned back in his chair, observing the scene with a faint smile.

"Mark's really trying hard to fix his image, isn't he?" Aiden said quietly. "it's like watching a lion turn into a kitten. Can't say I hate it, though."

Claire nodded, her gaze flicking toward Mark. "People can change, I guess. He seems sincere about it."

Noah humd noncommittally. "We'll see."

Just as Mark was about to announce the ga, Layla unexpectedly walked up to him and whispered sothing in his ear. Mark's expression shifted slightly, and he nodded, raising his hand to signal a brief pause in the festivities.

"Sorry to interrupt, everyone," Mark said, his voice loud enough to be heard over the music. "There's sothing Layla and I need to discuss real quick. Enjoy yourselves for now—we'll be back in a mont."

With that, the two slipped out of the party room, leaving a ripple of murmurs among the crowd.

Aiden leaned toward Noah. "What do you think that's about?"

Noah shrugged, his eyes narrowing slightly as he watched the door close behind them. "No idea."

A few minutes later, the party continued as though nothing had happened. People were engaged in gas and lighthearted conversations, while the staff discreetly refilled drinks and food.

When Mark and Layla returned, their expressions were unreadable, but they seamlessly rejoined the festivities. Layla stayed close to Mark, occasionally glancing around the room, her gaze lingering on Noah more than once.

Noah noticed but didn't react, his expression calm as he sipped his drink. However, the slight tension in her body didn't escape him.

'Sothing's off,' he thought but chose not to dwell on it for now.

As the night went on, the party showed no signs of slowing down, with laughter and excitent echoing through the room.

"I'll go to the toilet real quick," Noah said, standing up from his seat and glancing at Aiden, who was busy stuffing his face with dessert.

"Sure thing, bro. Don't get lost," Aiden quipped with a mouthful of cake, waving Noah off absentmindedly.

Noah smirked and shook his head as he weaved through the crowd. The hotel's party room was bustling, with classmates laughing, chatting, and taking pictures, but Noah made his way out with ease.

He stepped into the quieter corridor, the muffled sounds of the party fading behind him. The plush carpet underfoot dampened his footsteps as he walked toward the restrooms. The hallway was dimly lit, a clear difference from the chaotic energy of the party.

As he reached the restroom door, he paused, his senses picking up a faint sound nearby, it was a soft shuffle, like soone adjusting their position. His sharp eyes darted toward the corner of the hallway, where the faint glow of a phone screen briefly illuminated a figure.

Noah's brow furrowed, but he shrugged it off. 'Probably soone taking a break from the noise,' he thought, pushing the restroom door open.
