Lukas also got up from his seat and smiled politely at the middle-aged man.
"So you are the prodigy, hmm. Go run with them. I'll talk with your coach. Just run enough to warm yourself up, don't burn yourself." The middle-aged man said , while pointing at the players that were running in the field.
Lukas smiled and, nodding his head, ran along. Although he jogged in the morning, there was nothing wrong with getting ward up before trying sothing serious.
Seeing Lukas approaching, the 6 players that were running before slowed down, they wanted to know more about this new and super young guy.
"Hey, are you new?" One of the players asked Lukas first, he was also the oldest among the six players that were running on the field.
"No, actually, I ca here because of so kind of trial," Lukas replied casually, then blended in with them. Lukas didn't know how, but he nicely blended among the players.
" Nice. Where are you from?" The shortest player among them asked, he looked curious about Lukas.
" Well, I study in Princeton. My coach is that fat man over there, he brought here," Lukas said while taking the turn at the field. He pointed at Henry.
"Damn, he's fat, fat, Bro," the one and only Black guy that was training said. He was shocked to see such a fat man.
"Yeah, but he is a very nice person," Lukas said. Although Coach was fat, he felt like only he could call that man fat, if others did it, he didn't like it much.
"I am finished, don't overwork yourselves." The leader of the pack said he was getting out of the field.
" I am out too." The second one to quit was the Black guy, he was funny, and he winked at Lukas.
Lukas also quit ahead, he was not even sweating after running ten minutes, he felt like this was too easy.
After running, Lukas went with the team to the dugout. He was enjoying their company. The players were very simple, they talked funny, and he thought they'd be arrogant, but they were very nice about it.
" Hey, what position do you play in?" The team leader, or the leader among them, asked Lukas.
" I didn't know I could play until very recently. I am a pitcher, apparently," Lukas said, and then he imitated them and did so work out near the dugout.
" Oh!! That's why I was guessing you are a pitcher. They called in the bug guy today for you, Leader said with a smile.
" I don't follow, what do you an?" Lukas asked, he was not sure what big guy even ans.
" Well, in our team we have a star player. He is a batter. He doesn't train or practice with us usually, he only cos when a match is near. Today our coach has called him over, maybe to test you out," Leader said with a smile, then looked in Lukas's direction.
Lukas just smiled wryly, he was not certain if he was worth that much effort, but he would always appreciate the chance given to him by the coach.
" Boys, co over here." The white-haired coach yelled in their direction at this ti.
" Let's go, everyone. Coach is calling for us. What's your na, Newbie?" The oldest of them said he was also the acting leader of them right now.
"Lukas"
Reaching the coach, Lukas also saw a person standing with an arrogant face, he was young, unlike the other players on the field, and he was clearly looking down on the whole team.
"Lukas, co here. This here is Joe, our star player. He is the best player in the whole Eastern League," the white-haired coach said to Lukas. He seed to be smiling a little.
Lukas smiled and then nodded his head. He does not consider himself a good player, so he put out his hand to shake Joe's hand out of politeness, but Joe just looked at him without any expression and then looked away.
This jerk, well, he is the sa age as , so being arrogant is normal.
The white-haired coach placed his hand on Lukas's shoulder. "Lukas, I specifically called Joe and his manager here today to try you out. Henry's told great things about you, so don't disappoint ."
He turned to the rest of the squad and raised his voice. "Alright, everyone, listen up. Joe's heading to the MLB in a few days, but he'll suit up for three gas with us so you can see what he brings to the plate. I'm just laying this out to show you his talent. Joe, head to the on-deck circle and get ready. Fielders, take your positions: Lukas is on the bump, Joe's up to bat, and the rest of you cover the field. Let's go." Seeing everyone understood him, he smiled and then took Henry and Joe's manager sowhere.
Joe just went alone sowhere to change his clothes. Lukas also wanted to go sowhere to bring out his gloves from his backpack, but the oldest of the team just nodded in his direction.
Guess that guy being a jerk has made them like sohow.
Joe was really arrogant, and he even looked arrogant, as if he was so kind of high and mighty person.
"Luke, do you have everything? Cap looks good, oh! Your gloves are also very nice, but you don't have cleats and a rosin bag. I could lend you my old cleats. One of the players said in the dugout when they saw Lukas was actually missing equipnt.
Lukas didn't turn him down, on the contrary, he took whatever was needed right now, as he was short of every possible thing.
" Jockstrap, that's a very important thing, buy it as soon as possible if you want to play in the long run. It's a very private thing, so nobody will give it to you." The leader of the pack said with a smile, then put on his jersey.
Lukas nodded his head in acknowledgnt. He knows he was short on many things. Coach Henry has said those things are costly, so if he signs a deal with the team, Lukas could just buy them himself.
