Song Tingfan looked at him quietly, neither agreeing nor disagreeing, and just as Xu Bo thought he had tacitly consented, he suddenly kicked the soldier beside him who was administering punishnt.

Swift and fierce.

The soldier imdiately fell to the ground and passed out.

The force was evident.

The entire scene fell silent.

Xu Bo’s expression changed drastically, "Song Tingfan! What are you doing? Do you intend to defy military orders?"

"Military orders? Where are they? Let the General bring them out right away!" Song Tingfan let out a cold laugh, not letting any of them off the hook.

He stepped on the unconscious soldier’s leg, slowly grinding down, and continued, "If you can’t produce military orders, then the General is administering punishnt privately."

"Private punishnt, twenty lashes."

Xu Bo indeed did not have military orders, nor would the General give him any since writing them down would be leverage against them.

After all, inefficiency in executing orders is not the sa as not executing them at all.

In case he was reported, both he and the General would be implicated.

His expression turned ugly, "Song Tingfan, you are insubordinate; truly outrageous."

"The General is administering punishnt privately!" Zhou Fu’an shouted with his neck stiff, followed by Gao Qiang, and then the soldiers present started voicing their discontent.

Qin Dewen inside the tent was alard and ca over, sternly shouting, "What are you yelling for!" while scanning Song Tingfan with his eyes.

Song Tingfan t his gaze, neither avoiding nor backing down.

Xu Bo recounted the earlier incident in detail, and Qin Dewen frowned, looking at Song Tingfan, "I ordered this; what now? Are you planning on insubordination?"

Listening to him, Song Tingfan’s mind flashed with brutal scenes, a hint of malevolence in his eyes.

He said coldly, "I dare not be insubordinate. I’m only considering for you, General—Archery Camp is the most crucial camp in the army, originally ant for training, yet you want us to clear the drainage?"

"What are you planning, General? To send us to our deaths?"

Qin Dewen couldn’t answer this; answering anything would leave leverage.

Underestimated him.

Turns out he’s not a fool.

He pressed his lips together, "Since it’s the first ti, I’ll waive the punishnt." After speaking, he turned and left.

Xu Bo hurriedly called soone to take away the injured soldiers.

Gao Qiang spat and said, "Maggots!"

"Calling them maggots even elevates them, rotting-hearted maggots."

Zhou Fu’an followed suit, giving a thumbs-up to Song Tingfan and added, "Vice General Song, you’re tough!"

Earlier, when he was at odds with the General, I was worried sick.

Can’t die here; if death cos, let it be on the battlefield.

Seeing Song Tingfan staring at him made Zhou Fu’an, a sturdy man, a bit embarrassed. He touched the tip of his nose, "Vice General Song, I assu I’m not as good-looking as your wife."

Gao Qiang burst into laughter, hearty and unrestrained, "You old rascal, what are you thinking? Do you assu Vice General Song has taken a liking to you?"

The two n lived their lives before his eyes, as if the corpses lying in pools of blood were just a dream. Song Tingfan withdrew his gaze, "Take them back for recovery."

"Yes." Zhou Fu’an and Gao Qiang nodded simultaneously.

...

The vast grounds were covered by yellowed weeds pressed against the earth, chaotic footprints, no uneven cobblestone surfaces.

Song Tingfan scanned the area; apart from the people, everything else was different.

Why...

Suddenly a woman’s slightly rough voice called out, "Song Tingfan!"

Soon she ran up to him, her high ponytail slightly tousled.

"Song Tingfan, this is what you get for provoking ! Not just yesterday, more will follow."

Song Tingfan’s eyes were filled with disgust and chill, devoid of any warmth.

Seeing him about to leave, Qin Wuli was sowhat enraged, reaching out to grab him, "Song Tingfan, don’t go too far... Uh, uh..."

In an instant, sothing constricted around her neck, too fast for her to resist.

In sheer terror, she looked at the man exuding a violent aura before her, the killing intent in his eyes unmistakably clear.

Song Tingfan watched as her face turned from flushed to pale, said grimly, "Don’t provoke again, or you’ll be the first to die." With that, he flung her away and strode off.

He walked for quite a while before Qin Wuli lay on the ground, coughing "cough" "cough."

...

At noon, Lin Qiao was busy with the shop and didn’t return for lunch, thus avoiding contact with Song Tingfan.

Finally done with the work, she asked the cook to make a couple of dishes for herself.

Just as she picked up her chopsticks, Wei Yun arrived.

Wei Yun glanced at the food on the table, "Haven’t eaten yet?"

"Just finished getting busy. Have you eaten? If not, I’ll have the cook make a couple more dishes."

"Already eaten, about the matter I promised you last ti."

Wei Yun turned his head slightly to look at the servant behind him who nodded eagerly then went out, soon dragging a large wooden box inside.

"No need, the Ruyi Shop does well so I can earn a bit more." Lin Qiao shook her head.

"They’re not valuable items, just dicinal herbs. I’ve had soone bring over a box." Wei Yun spoke as the servant opened the box, revealing it contained indeed so herbs.

Seeing several good herbs for replenishing blood and energy, Lin Qiao hesitated a bit. Now that she’s pregnant, she indeed needs so nourishnt.

Back then, she could rely on Song Tingfan, but now, not expecting anything from him; if he doesn’t strangle her in the night, she considers herself lucky.

After thinking for a while, she opened her mouth to accept them, "I won’t be reserved about it then."

Their interactions were fully witnessed by the man at the door, his eyes turning deeper before he stepped inside.

Upon hearing the sound, Lin Qiao glanced over, instinctively startled by his dark expression, whispering warmly, "Tingfan."

Song Tingfan didn’t respond to her, his sharp gaze falling upon Wei Yun.

Extrely displeased.

His gaze was too sharp, causing Wei Yun to furrow his brows slightly, but considering his previous assistance, he did not express dissatisfaction, "I have so matters to attend to, I’ll leave first."

"Okay." Lin Qiao thought he had sent an entire box of dicinal herbs, hence wanted to see him out. But just as she took a step, her wrist was grabbed.

A low voice tinged with nace sounded, "Where do you think you’re going?"

Despite the tone, Lin Qiao was terrified, her instincts for survival strong, "Cough, I’ll get you a bowl."

This antagonist has so quirks.

Upon hearing this, Song Tingfan’s ominous mood lifted sowhat, and he released her hand, "No need, I’ve already eaten." As he spoke, he glanced at the box on the ground.

Under his gaze, Lin Qiao finished the chicken soup that was brought to her. Perhaps due to fright and pregnancy symptoms, she couldn’t resist the urge to vomit, the nausea overwhelming, causing her to disgorge at once.

After a few bouts of retching, she felt sowhat better. Upon closer inspection, most of the vomit landed on the man’s shoes before her, "..."

Her body went limp, leaning against him softly, "Tingfan, I feel awful."

Song Tingfan pressed his lips together but didn’t push her away, then lifted her up horizontally.

Lin Qiao was caught off guard and frightened, imdiately clutching his neck. The next mont, she t his deep, probing gaze, her heart skipping a beat, then she closed her eyes as she leaned against his chest, weakly panting.

She seed extrely uncomfortable.
