Lin Qiao knew that Song Tingfan’s monthly salary was thirty taels. He was probably holding so position in the military camp, but he hadn’t ntioned it, and she hadn’t asked.

She had a headache and spoke seriously, "Mother, you can’t disregard my and my little uncle’s opinions just because you and father are in favor. Marriage is about forming a family, not creating enmity."

"I don’t mind, but my little uncle is different. He’s grown up, he has his own thoughts. Mother, you said he’s capable, handso, and many girls like him."

"Why would he like , a widow nearly twenty years old? I know in your and father’s eyes I’m the best, but in others’ eyes, I’m just a widow who lost her husband."

These words hit the knot in Li Guifen’s heart, "It wasn’t what you wanted. It was because your father and I were foolish at the ti and pushed you into the fire pit. It has nothing to do with you."

Seeing her eyes redden, Lin Qiao quickly comforted her, "I’m not blaming you and father, I haven’t blad anyone."

She only blad the ruthless heavens.

Then she continued, "My little uncle should have his own life. He’s suffered enough, and now that things have improved a little, let’s not drag him into this."

Li Guifen understood, but what about her daughter, "Your father and I wouldn’t leave you alone, once you’re married, we’ll give you whatever you should have."

"It’s not about silver, it’s about liking soone. My little uncle should find soone he likes."

Lin Qiao saw she had cald down, and continued, "I will look for soone. If you find soone you think is good, help assess them, and if suitable, I’ll marry."

She wasn’t just placating them. Watching Song Hao and his wife having children made her think about her own major life decisions.

She took a step back, and Li Guifen wasn’t as angry as before, "How do you know Tingfan doesn’t like you? We asked him before, and he said he’d be willing to marry you."

Lin Qiao: "..."

She couldn’t help but rub her brow, "When did you ask?"

"A few years ago, I asked him again when he was leaving. He said he would marry you." Li Guifen raised her hand as a guarantee she wasn’t lying.

When Song Tingfan left, he said he’d marry her when he returned, and she hadn’t misheard.

Lin Qiao: "..."

They must have said sothing to make Song Tingfan agree; his heart is kind, he would definitely agree.

But it’s different from liking, he wants to repay a favor.

"Why would you say that? My little uncle must think we’re forcing him. Mother, I treat him well not to make him marry , I want..." to survive.

She swallowed the last two words and changed her tone, "I want him to be well, that’s all."

"We weren’t forcing him. At the ti he had nothing, what could your father and I want from him?" Li Guifen understood the logic, but she wouldn’t change her mind. Apart from Tingfan, she didn’t trust anyone else.

A daughter is always a widow who lost her husband. Could any family truly treat her well?

She stubbornly continued, "This isn’t up to you. Even if you hate , I will talk to Tingfan."

Seeing she couldn’t reason with her, Lin Qiao’s mind was a ss. After holding in for a while, she finally couldn’t help but say, "Tingfan can take care of this family now. In a few days, I’ll tell him to move out."

To be blunt, she’d rather marry Niu Er than Song Tingfan.

It’s not about right or wrong, just that she raised him, she can’t marry him.

It’s like marrying her "child."

Li Guifen didn’t expect her to say this. She never wanted to leave Song’s second family before, and now that Song’s second family had everything, she wanted to leave.

Her eyes reddened, "I’m not forcing you, daughter, I want what’s best for you more than anyone."

Lin Qiao knew well. The Lin couple had treated their daughter like no one else. She comforted, "Mother, I’ll start looking tomorrow. I promise I won’t beco a nun."

Right after she said that, she caught a glimpse of a tall, dark shadow at the door. She paused and opened the door, and sure enough, it was Song Tingfan.

She didn’t know how much he had heard, but it was good. She didn’t know how to explain to him.

She hadn’t asked him to repay her.

"Little uncle, weren’t you hunting on the mountain?"

Song Tingfan had returned from the mountains and heard Song Qin saying Li Guifen had dragged Lin Qiao into the house.

He had been at the door since she said, "I will look for soone. If you find soone you think is good, help assess them, and if suitable, I’ll marry."

She didn’t want to marry him.

His throat felt tight, "The bow broke."

He paused and solemnly said, "No need to help assess, I already have a girl I like. In a while, I’ll bring her to et you all."

He understood; she was distancing herself and didn’t want to marry him.

Upon hearing this, both Lin Qiao and Li Guifen were stunned. Lin Qiao quickly smiled brightly, "Why didn’t you say earlier, little uncle? That’s great, I won’t need to help assess anyone. A girl from the border?"

"Yes, her family runs a noodle stall."

Watching her genuine smile, Song Tingfan’s chest hurt more than when he was pierced by a sword years ago.

Compared to Lin Qiao’s joy, Li Guifen felt like she had been dealt a heavy blow. The thing she and Lin Han worried most about had co to pass. She held back from questioning Song Tingfan.

Lin Qiao finally felt at ease, and as for Li Guifen’s mood, it’ll get better in a few days.

...

Li Guifen returned ho, went into the room with her head down. Lin Han called her several tis, but she didn’t respond. So he quickly went inside, finding her in tears, "What’s wrong? What did our daughter say?"

"Alas, if our daughter really doesn’t want it, let it go."

"It’s not up to our daughter’s wishes." Li Guifen felt very uncomfortable. She thought Song Tingfan was a dependable child, but now he was like any other man outside.

After being away for years, how does he rember the hardworking daughter at ho?

"What do you an?" Lin Han asked.

"Song Tingfan has a girl he likes, even said he’d bring her to see us later. I don’t want to see her! I’ll never set foot in their house in the future." Li Guifen vented with a bit of anger.

After Lin Han replied with an "Ah," he sighed deeply, "Don’t say that, it’s just that there’s no fate."

"Fate, fate, damn fate, it’s just for youth and looks." Li Guifen cursed while choked.

When their wife gets angry, this is how she behaves, but there’s nothing wrong in her heart. Lin Han didn’t respond, letting her vent her feelings for relief.

Suddenly, Lin Xushi’s voice ca from outside the house, "Father, mother, Tingfan is here."

Upon hearing this, Lin Han quickly said to Li Guifen, "Stop crying, it’s not good to be seen later."

Li Guifen sniffed, wiped her tears, and replied, "I know, you go out and say I’m busy in the room."

"Alright."

Lin Han left the room and saw Song Tingfan, greeting him with a smile, "Tingfan."

"Uncle Lin."

Song Tingfan glanced around the house again and asked, "Where’s Aunt Lin? I have sothing to discuss with you."

"She’s busy in the room."

Lin Han thought he was here to apologize, so he led him to the second family’s room, which was currently empty.

He sighed, "I’ve heard from your aunt, there’s nothing wrong, we didn’t consider you initially."

"When will you bring that girl ho? We’ll take a look for you..."

Song Tingfan interrupted him, firmly, "Uncle Lin, no, I only want to marry my sister-in-law."
