Chapter 46: Chapter 42 Shadow 2

Lin Fei jogged at a steady, unhurried pace, occasionally stopping intentionally to listen for any sounds behind him, confirming that soone indeed followed before continuing to run forward.

He headed towards quieter areas, gradually delving deeper into the park. He considered his own tracking and counter-tracking skills extrely poor, although his excellent physical condition provided him with keen senses. Yet, he hadn’t expected to encounter a rookie even greener than himself.

After several twists and turns, he stopped in a spot surrounded by gardens, his body turned sideways, where the dim, yellowish light of a streetlamp further highlighted the quietude of the area.

“So you’re Lin Fei?”

Lin Fei turned around abruptly.

From the shadows, a tall man with his hair standing on end and a silver earring dangling from his right earlobe, slowly stepped forward.

“Who are you?” Lin Fei asked with a look of puzzled anxiety. “I don’t know you, sorry, I’m going ho.”

The man chuckled, “You look so weak.” His right hand trembled as he flicked open a small silver knife. “And you expect

to believe that soone like you could have killed Sun Chengbin? That’s a joke.”

Lin Fei was astonished and seed sowhat at a loss.

“What do you an? Talking about killing and all, I don’t know anything about it. Could you have mistaken

for soone else?”

“Mistaken?” The man scoffed disdainfully. “Does it really matter if it’s a mistake? Why don’t we find out with a try?”

He lunged forward, aiming the knife diagonally towards the young man’s chest.

Unexpectedly, Lin Fei reacted even faster; upon seeing the man’s movent, he imdiately turned and ran.

“Help! Murderer!” The lad shouted while running, narrowly escaping the attacker’s strike by a re fraction.

The man was visibly frustrated and, with an exertion of force, instantly gave chase.

The setting was already secluded, compounded by the night’s lateness. The two ran a distance, still no one else in sight.

************

In the dim park, by the concrete garden edge.

He Wenwen stood calmly, observing the sowhat embarrassed looking boy before her. She wore a light blue spaghetti strap top with a cinched waist, her full bust prominently displayed, bangs swept to one side. She had tied her shoulder-length hair into a little ponytail at the back of her head.

“Why have you called

here so late? I need to go ho.”

“Wenwen, in what way am I not as good as Du Zixuan? Why did you leave

to follow him?!” The boy’s face turned red, his fists clenched as he beca agitated.

“In what way are you his equal?” He Wenwen replied with disdain. “He’s handsor than you, cos from a better family, and even his studies are superior. Now, unless you have sothing else to say, I am going ho.”

“But… after all this ti we’ve spent together, don’t you feel anything for

at all?” the boy said, his head hanging low.

“If I hadn’t rembered how good you’d been to

before, I wouldn’t have even paid attention to your call today! Let

tell you, Chen Hao, you should stop seeking

out from now on. If Du Zixuan finds out, he’ll definitely have soone corner you,” Wenwen’s voice softened a bit. Although she admittedly liked dressing up and was fond of material comforts, Chen Hao had taken care of her for a long ti, and seeing his current state, she still couldn’t help feeling so compassion.

The boy remained silent, his head bowed.

The atmosphere around them turned eerie with the boy’s silence.

“I gave you a chance,” the boy suddenly said in a low voice.

He Wenwen suddenly felt uneasy. The environnt, deserted with no one else around, just a boy and a girl…

She started to think of multiple incidents in parks at night that she had seen on the news. As she watched Chen Hao’s face turn pale, she realized it wasn’t the ti to continue provoking him.

“Chen Hao, I know you have been good to , but Du Zixuan has been cornering

every day at school, deliberately boasting in front of everyone that he and I are a couple. I can’t help it. You know his background, how strong his family is, and that he has connections with gangsters in society. There’s nothing I can do,” He Wenwen quickly positioned herself as a victim.

Standing under the shade of trees, in a spot that was relatively dark, He Wenwen’s fear escalated; if Chen Hao really ant harm, in the quiet of the night, no one would hear her cries for help.

“Is it true? Is it because he forced you?” Hope rekindled in the boy’s eyes.

“It’s true!” He Wenwen said, wanting to appease Chen Hao at all costs, frantically nodding.

A fleeting look of joy crossed the boy’s face.

“Well then, I’ll go find Du Zixuan tomorrow. Wenwen, don’t worry, I’ll make him leave you alone. What does he have, other than so money?”

He Wenwen hurriedly nodded, “Okay, it’s all up to you then. I’ll wait for your news tomorrow. It’s really too late now; I need to get back.”

*********

In the pitch-black night, within the dimly lit park.

One figure chased closely after another, rapidly running and weaving through the small paths in the middle of the garden.

This pursuit had already lasted for two minutes.

The one being chased had thought that Lin Fei would continue running.

Unexpectedly, Lin Fei suddenly stopped and turned around.

“What’s the matter? Not running anymore?” The chaser asked with a slight gasp.

“So you’re eager to die?” Lin Fei said with a bashful smile on his face, speaking softly. “Human life is like a burning torch. Yours is exceptionally bright. I really didn’t want to put it out.” He stood quietly in place, his right hand lightly gripping the handle of the Bear Claw knife in his pocket. With a swift sound, the ferocious Bear Claw neatly fell into his hand.

“See that? Your ‘Life Fla’ through my eyes.” Lin Fei chuckled, twisting his foot, making a forward leap, and with a backhanded motion, the Bear Claw swiftly traced a dark arc. The other person hastily stepped sideways to avoid it.

The two swiftly brushed past each other.

“Shh!”

The sound of the blade cutting through fabric.

A faint scent of blood slowly began to spread.

Lin Fei slowly turned around, a complex and unexplainable expression in his eyes, saying from a superior position, “Get down on your knees and beg for rcy. Maybe I’ll grant you a quick death.”

The man was half-kneeling on the ground, with a rapidly growing patch of crimson on his chest.

“Heh, no wonder Brother Bin died at your hand. So that’s how it is…” He began to laugh miserably. “You lured

here with a plan all along, didn’t you? Looks like I really can’t escape today. I thought I could avenge Brother Bin…”

Lin Fei remained silent. After his first kill, life hadn’t seed all that precious in his eyes anymore. He felt like a lion living among sheep, always having to be careful to restrain his sharp claws and fangs, fearing he might carelessly harm the sheep in his circle.

“Again!” The man’s eyes showed one last struggle as he suddenly threw his knife at Lin Fei.

Lin Fei dodged to the side, the Bear Claw held level as he lunged forward at great speed. In just an instant, a splash of crimson blood flew from the man’s throat.

With the sound of a body collapsing to the ground, Lin Fei calmly stood behind.

“You, who knew nothing, paid everything just for what you called loyalty. How pathetic.”

The night wind blew, lifting the white shirt on his body. Who would imagine that this ordinary young man, as pure as the color of snow, was a cold-blooded murderer who held human life in disdain just monts before?

Lin Fei looked towards the dark area to his right.

“Co out, or if you prefer, you can try to see who’s faster.”

Lu Jun erged from the darkness with a look of resignation.

“I was nearby, and I ca as soon as I got the ssage,” he said, looking at the body on the ground, “You’ve killed again.”

“What, is there a problem?” Lin Fei questioned in return.

“Nothing much. It’s just that Sun Chengbin once had many underlings. You can kill one today, but what about the next, the second or third? What if four or five co at once? How many can you kill?” Lu Jun shook his head and sighed.

Lin Fei looked stunned as if he had heard sothing amusing.

“Why not just kill them all?” he said, as if it were the most natural solution.

Upon hearing this, a chill ran through Lu Jun. As he stared at the young man before him, he suddenly felt an indescribable sensation.

In the shadowy trees not far away, a girl tightly covered her mouth with her hands, watching everything with horror, daring not to make the slightest noise.
