Chapter 42: Chapter 38 End of the volu
“Zhao Jun, deputy chief of the criminal investigation team, what the hell do you think you’re doing!” the leader from Shueisha shouted angrily. “Are you trying to publicly attack a subordinate of the National Security Departnt?”
“I’m well aware of what I’m doing!” Zhao Jun said, his expression resolute. “I suspect that this Lin Fei is the murderer of the killing case upstairs!”
“On what grounds?” Lin Fei asked calmly. Despite the fact that he couldn’t possibly dodge a pistol at this short distance, he knew Zhao Jun wouldn’t dare to fire without evidence. So, while it seed dangerous for him, in reality, it was very safe. His current identity was that of a subordinate officer of the National Security Departnt.
“Do you dare to open that bag on your back for us to see?” Zhao Jun smiled confidently. Just monts ago, when Lin Fei brushed past him, he clearly detected a faint scent of blood emanating from the Sword Bag. The brutal death of Chen Kun on the rooftop flashed in his mind, and a surge of anger welled up inside him. So, he made a snap decision and took a gamble. Although he indeed had his gun drawn on Lin Fei, as long as he didn’t fire, nothing would happen. And conveniently, his action had drawn everyone’s attention to the suspicion he had raised, thus taking a bet. Even if he lost the bet, at worst, he would just receive a warning.
Indeed, the situation had unfolded just as he had anticipated.
Everyone’s attention was now focused on the Sword Bag on Lin Fei’s back.
“Do you dare to open it up for us to see?” Zhao Jun asked again, emphasizing each word, his eyes fixated on Lin Fei.
Lin Fei was silent for a mont, then gave a faint smile.
“What’s there to be afraid of.” He unhurriedly removed the Sword Bag from his back, untied the knots, and with a swift motion, he drew the Longsword from the bag, along with the Sword Sheath.
“Tsk,” he said softly as he drew the Longsword, its blade gleaming like new, without a single trace of blood.
“Well, what do you have to say now?” Lin Fei asked composedly.
Zhao Jun was taken aback, his gaze locked onto the blade. After a mont of silence, he said in a deflated tone, “I’m sorry, I was wrong.” He lowered his pistol.
“Then this area is yours to take over, our criminal investigation team will withdraw now,” Mu Yuan quickly interjected, while shooting Zhao Jun a fierce glance. Zhao Jun didn’t interact much with personnel from these special departnts, so he was unaware of the circumstances. But Mu Yuan knew these people had a special privilege that allowed them to eliminate individuals harmful to the state—simply put, a special license to kill. His biggest worry was that Zhao Jun had provoked them, and if sothing were to happen, it would be the criminal investigation team that would suffer.
“Wait a mont,” Lin Fei suddenly spoke up. He glanced at the lead person from Shueisha, who nodded slightly.
“What is it?” Mu Yuan’s heart sank. The thing he feared the most was finally happening.
Lin Fei looked at Zhao Jun with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile. “Deputy Chief Zhao, just because you suspect
of murder, you think you can point a gun at ? If you’re walking down the street and randomly suspect soone of being a terrorist, does that an you can just shoot them and say it was all a misunderstanding later? Is the world really so lenient?”
Zhao Jun’s expression darkened.
Lin Fei didn’t care about his reaction and continued, “With such professional ethics, you sar others based on personal impressions. Soone like you, who can be a deputy chief in a criminal investigation team that carries guns, in my personal opinion, is being grossly irresponsible for national security and the safety of the people!”
“Indeed, Lin is right. I will formally bring this up with Chief Zhou later on. It is indeed too dangerous to have soone with such a character in an ard criminal investigation team,” the person in charge from Shueisha nodded in agreent.
Mu Yuan sighed and glanced at Zhao Jun, whose face was gloomy. “Let’s go.” The others, not daring to say anything, could only silently follow him down the stairs.
Lin Fei and the others stood still, quietly watching the criminal investigation team leave until they were out of sight.
“We have intelligence that soone has leaked your information,” a Shueisha mber approached Lin Fei, moving his lips slightly and whispered.
“Who?”
“Chen Yaojia. The young man you hurt that night.”
“Where is he now?”
“White Smoke Restaurant!”
*************
In the white rcedes, the elegant music of Bandari flowed softly like water.
Lu Jun rested one hand on the steering wheel while clutching a cigarette with the other, the crimson tip burning constantly, sending wisps of smoke drifting.
“Dudu… Dudu….”
Suddenly, the Samsung phone placed on the car window sounded a text ssage alert.
Lu Jun checked his phone.
“Lin Fei is going after Chen Yaojia. Shall we stop him?”
“Tell him, as long as no lives are taken, it’s fine. Give Chen Yaojia a spot in the national public mission in ten days.”
“Understood.”
*************
“Hey! Big brother, that kid is definitely done for this ti. People in front and guns behind, he’s caught between a rock and a hard place!”
In a private room of the White Smoke Restaurant, about a dozen people were surrounding the banquet table, eating and drinking rrily. A muscular man with dark skin and dressed in a black shirt chuckled softly.
Chen Yaojia was wearing a red shirt with the top button undone, revealing the white bandage wrapped around his chest. Hearing the big man speak, he rely smiled faintly.
“Boss Hu will be here soon, so let’s not ntion that loser’s na. It’d spoil the mood.”
“Right, right, even if that kid could fight like Bruce Lee, it wouldn’t help him against Chen Yaojia big brother,” a fair-skinned young man said with a chuckle.
Outside the restaurant, on the bustling sidewalk, a young man wearing a checkered shirt looked up with a smile at the restaurant in front of him.
He was holding a black Sword Bag in his hand.
Next to him, a girl with long bangs stood excitedly.
“Which private room specifically?”
“Second Layer, room 013. The person in charge said to avoid fatalities.”
“Understood.” Lin Fei walked into the restaurant composedly.
Two girls wearing fiery red cheongsams greeted in unison with delicate voices, “Welco.”
Lin Fei walked straight to the counter and asked with a smile, “Could you please tell
how to get to room 013? I’m a friend of Chen Yaojia’s inside.”
The receptionist at the counter responded politely with refined etiquette, “Please wait a mont.” She called over a girl who had just finished delivering dishes.
“This gentleman needs to go to room 013 on the second floor, Xiao Wei, please take him there.”
“Alright.”
“Thank you.” Lin Fei said warmly to the girl with a smile.
Following the wooden stairs up within the bustling restaurant, they reached the second floor. The girl from Shueisha who had co with them followed closely behind, her face filled with anticipation and excitent.
The three of them walked towards the most secluded private room at the end of the second-floor corridor.
Along the way, Lin Fei crossed paths with a clean-cut handso young man who had two young followers behind him, exuding an unopprecible aura.
Since Lin Fei and company were walking fast, they directly passed the trio. However, as they reached the end, both parties realized they had the sa destination—the private room 013.
As they passed by the young man, he politely smiled faintly at Lin Fei.
Lin Fei nodded his head and unslung the Sword Bag.
The girl from Shueisha imdiately understood and walked to the periter, blocking the custors headed this way, starting to clear the area.
Slowly drawing his Longsword, Lin Fei’s mouth curled into a sinister arc.
The mont the door opened.
Before his eyes was a group of people imrsed in eating and drinking.
Sitting at the head seat was Chen Yaojia, smiling. The sound of the opening door imdiately attracted his attention, but as soon as he clearly saw who had co, his face instantly changed.
“Ding….”
Lin Fei flicked the Longsword, producing a crisp ringing sound.
“There are always so people, so naive, so naive,” he sighed softly. With a burst of energy from his feet, his body slightly bowed.
In an instant, a flash of silver light swiftly slashed across Chen Yaojia’s right hand and right foot. The banquet table in the middle was cleaved in two, and countless dishes were spilled on the floor.
Chen Yaojia scread as he fell to the ground, blood spurting out like a fountain. The others were completely unable to react in ti.
In the whooshing sound, Lin Fei’s figure returned to the entrance of the private room, back facing the room, not even looking. With a clang, he sheathed the Longsword and gracefully walked down the corridor to leave. The door to the room slowly closed behind him.
The fair-skinned young man stood frozen in place, rigid until Lin Fei brushed past him, with his figure disappearing into the second floor of the restaurant. Only then did he snap out of his daze.
