Chapter 142: I pity you

When Ashton ntioned being a sacrificial lamb, I had pondered about it every night. No matter how I shunned the idea and deny it, it kept coming back to . Haunting , forcing

to think about it. So I did.

I admit. I denied it multiple tis. But when I couldn’t anymore, I considered if that was the case, then that was a pity. But... it hurt

more than I thought. Because there was this small part of

that sincerely hoped that Ashton was lying. That my parents truly loved .

Either way, even when I thought I accepted the past, the excruciating pain of this betrayal ripped my heart in half, leaving it just enough to pump blood and keep

alive.

The lamb. That poor, poor Rinnie... was akin to a fly stuck in the cobwebs of lies all her life. Not knowing when the spider would devour her. That attack in Everfell hurt

like hell, but what was even more painful was that I wallowed in guilt when, in fact, it was a blessing.

"I know," the man shrugged, wiping my nonexistent tears. "People make

sick too; vampires, werewolves, humans, this world... they make my stomach turn. Everything, little lamb, deserves to die."

I looked at him with dead eyes, barely registering the words he uttered. I was in pain. Aside from that, I didn’t know all other emotional having a fierce tug of war in my wounded heart.

"I want to go ho," I whispered, feeling breathless with every passing second. "I will die... I can’t breathe."

"Which ho are you talking about? I can give you a new one."

My eyelids drooped until it was partially closed. "Edge. Let’s go back." I didn’t know why I thought of calling Edge, but for so reason, he grunted right after. From my peripheral vision, Edge moved, only to realize he was tied up.

While Edge grumble in confusion before setting his eyes on

and the man squatting in front of , I kept my eyes on the person. Whoever was controlling this man... I knew we would et soday. If he wasn’t here, a huge part of

was certain we could escape him if we struggled just a little.

"Thank you," I expressed, making the man raised his brows. "For giving

the answer I could never answer on my own. If you want to see , visit Belcoot. You don’t have to keep trying to abduct . You’ll never succeed. A certain wolf will chase

to the ends of the world. It’ll be a long and tiring chase, but he will never give up because..."

I paused and smiled warmly at him. "... wherever the lamb goes, the wolf will always follow. I don’t hate you; I pity you. I think that will be a good reason to be an option which... is also a pity. To be an option." My voice didn’t have the touch of sarcasm, but I knew that hit a few nerves.

I understood that this man wanted to save

that night in Everfell. But... I wasn’t foolish to think it was simply out of the goodness of his heart. Because one fact was unchanging. When I lived in deception, this man, Ashton, and everyone just watched on the sidelines while I danced, smiled, giggle, like a fool who knows nothing.

Getting deceived again... never.

"Anger... good." He smirked as if he could see sothing within

I wasn’t aware of.

"Luna!" Edge finally snapped, making

turn my lifeless eyes to him. His eyes popped open as soon as our gaze t. "I..."

"Edge, can’t you break the ropes?" I asked in a low tone, not expecting anything from him as fear slowly dominated his face.

"That rope is ant to subdue a wolf." The vampire remarked, watching Edge struggle to break free. Like usual, when Edge knew he couldn’t break free, his lower lips trembled.

"Luna... we’re dead." His heart sank as his voice ca out airily. His quick surrender didn’t even surprise

or disappoint .

"What a strange wolf," our abductor intoned while I faced him. "How can he give up so easily? I thought he was faking his cowardice, but I don’t think that’s the case. My. Why would that mad dog leave such an incompetent wolf to guard you?"

"Incompetent... I’m incompetent, so I need to die..." Again, Edge started his mumblings with his pale complexion.

A shallow sigh slipped past my lips, fluttering my eyes back to our abductor. "Hugo will co," I affird calmly. "You shouldn’t stop moving because once you do, he will catch up. Your people won’t be safe — no one will be safe."

"What a strong faith you have there, Princess." The man laughed, shaking his head lightly. Shortly, he slapped his thigh while standing up, towering over .

He walked over to Edge, pulling him by the collar with one hand. Edge, despite leaving the floor, kept mumbling. He stared at the vampire in fear, mumbling not to kill him. But the forr just snorted before setting his eyes on .

"Well, since you’re that sure that mad dog will co and kill all my n, it’ll only be fair if I kill one of his, right? The lamb is neither good nor bad; she is just. So, you will understand this, correct?" He cocked his head, stressing his words.

anwhile, I pressed my lips and secretly clenched my teeth. "Edge... can you co to your senses?" ca out a muffled voice, angry and desperate at the sa ti. Not to Edge, but to myself. Hugo chose

as his Luna and yet, I couldn’t protect our people when they needed it.

"Hah... how tragic. If you only ca to ... you will never be this powerless. The Everfell robbed your everything. Poor lamb. Maybe killing him will bring all that was lost." My heart sank as I witnessed him grin from ear to ear.

When the vampire faced Edge, he cocked his head. "I can’t believe soone like you calls yourself a proud werewolf. What a disgrace to your race. Even I am angry." Without a second hesitation, the man strangled Edge while the latter struggled.

"No, Edge..." I also toiled to break free, but what could a weakling like

do? Nothing but watch as Edge choked before receiving a heavy blow on his abdon. Edge hunched in, dropping to his knees with a thud.

"What a weak body." The vampire gazed at his fist in disappointnt. But just then, he quirked a brow as he glanced down at Edge. I also shifted my attention to him after hearing his voice.

"Hey... what the hell was that punch?" Edge looked up at him blankly. His tremblings stopped as if he was simply confused. "Didn’t you say you will kill ? That punch barely tickled. Are you fucking with ? That won’t kill ."

"Edge...?"
