Chapter 759: Chapter 759: You Should Hurry and Check on Your Brother
Everyone in the circle knew that Old Sir Jiang’s belief in fortune-telling had reached a level of obsession.
But lately, he seed to have scaled it back a lot.
Before that, the Jiang Family’s living room was adorned with Eight Diagrams, and Old Sir Jiang would consult them for almost everything, big or small.
However, in the Capital’s high society, there were quite a few believers, so a plainly dressed lady curiously asked,
“Mrs. Jiang, I heard that your Jiang Li can also tell fortunes, and she’s very accurate at it, isn’t she? Mrs. Li sought her out for a reading before, didn’t she?”
“That’s right, that’s right,” another lady chid in. “A friend of mine got picked for a reading in her live stream once, and afterward, she kept praising how accurate Jiang Li was to all of us. I was even tempted to give it a try.”
Before Jiang Li could speak up, Mrs. ng let out a light laugh, “What’s the point of knowing how to tell fortunes? It’s nothing but a distraction from proper work.”
Mrs. ng then turned to Lin Manru.
“Dear sister, I must advise you, hasn’t your Lili dropped out of school? She can’t continue wasting her ti like this. Since your family’s business is doing well this year, why don’t you plan to send her back abroad? My daughter will be going overseas soon. She just got her IELTS score last month, 9 points. She can pretty much pick from any school in M country.”
Everyone was surprised and hurried to congratulate Mrs. ng.
“9 points, that’s so high! My kid has been taking it for two years and has only ever scored a 7 at most.”
“You know Mrs. ng’s daughter has always been a good student.”
“I’m so envious, Xiao Qian is both beautiful and smart.”
Jiang Li’s gaze swept over Mrs. ng briefly, her lips curling into a barely discernible smirk.
She had heard about Mrs. ng from her mother.
Always pretending to be sothing she’s not.
It seed to be true upon observation.
Such a person at a banquet was bound to be a problem eventually.
Jiang Li smiled faintly and steered the conversation back.
“Mrs. ng, you must have spent a lot of effort and money on your daughter’s education abroad.”
Mrs. ng snorted, preening like a peacock flaring its plus.
“It’s just a few tens of millions.”
“Forgive my frankness, Aunt ng, but hasn’t your husband’s company been performing poorly over the recent years? Allocating so much money for your daughter’s overseas education must have been difficult. And the key point is, she has not even gone abroad yet, and so much has already been spent.”
Mrs. ng’s face had already turned sour, and just as she was about to question back, Jiang Li continued,
“But it doesn’t matter, money can be earned back. The real worry is if those tens of millions were to go to waste like water.”
“What do you an?” Mrs. ng slamd her cup down on the table, her face stern. “Lin Manru, you need to control your daughter properly, don’t you? Is this how she talks to her elders?”
Jiang Li placed her hand over Lin Manru’s, remaining calm as she locked eyes with Mrs. ng’s angry stare.
“Aunt ng, don’t rush, just listen to . I noticed that your Children Palace is weak, and by chance, I learned your birth date from my mother. From the perspective of fate, your daughter lacks the presence of the ‘Children Palace,’ aning her academic journey will not be smooth.”
“And you, if I’m not mistaken, have a brother. Your brother wasn’t very academic. After graduation, he started working at your husband’s company. You’re quite fond of him and often worry about his matters. Furthermore, you trust him a lot. He was in charge of arranging everything concerning your daughter’s study abroad, right?”
Mrs. ng was initially a bit upset, but now, listening to Jiang Li’s spot-on explanation, her expression softened sowhat.
“What you said is indeed true, but I have never spoiled my brother. He is reliable. Look, didn’t my daughter score a 9 on the IELTS?”
“Mrs. ng, did you personally verify this score?”
“Of course, my brother checked it. Don’t believe ? Look.”
Mrs. ng promptly took out her phone, found the score report, and showed it around to everyone.
And indeed, it was a 9.
But in the next second, Jiang Li flipped out her own phone.
“Aunt, I just looked up the candidate number you ntioned, and it showed that there was no such person.”
“Impossible!”
Mrs. ng snatched Jiang Li’s phone, fiddled with it for a bit, and to her astonishnt, got the sa result as Jiang Li.
“How could this be…” She murmured incredulously.
A lady nearby began to whisper in secrecy, “Could it be that the grades were faked? I’ve looked at my son’s transcript and it always felt like the ng family’s didn’t quite seem genuine.”
Mrs. ng stood up abruptly, “What do you an?!”
Jiang Li took a sip of tea, calm and composed, “Additionally, Aunt ng, you might want to check your brother’s accounts. I fear those millions of yours have long been pocketed by him. Also, isn’t it that the accounts at your husband’s company always seem to be mismatched? You might want to look into that as well.”
Mrs. ng was no fool, with Jiang Li hinting so heavily, she couldn’t possibly misunderstand.
She left imdiately, too flustered to even finish her tea, grabbed her purse, and marched out with a pale face.
A wave of snickers spread through the crowd, followed by a round of gossip about Mrs. ng, and then everyone gathered around Jiang Li.
“Miss Jiang, you’re so clever. Give a reading too. My family’s business hasn’t been doing well for years, could we have been cursed by soone?”
“Let have a turn first, I’m more anxious!”
“Miss Jiang, it has to be you. I’ve been sick of that woman for ages. Thankfully you drove her away. Drop by my store in a few days, Auntie will buy you sothing nice.”
“…..”
Unable to withstand the enthusiasm from these aunts, Jiang Li chose two of them and read their fortunes.
Thankfully, she wasn’t entangled for too long before a servant ca to announce that dinner was ready.
The guests then proceeded to the backyard one after another.
To be honest, they had their reservations about the Jiang family’s banquet arrangents.
The initial setup was quite impressive.
The reception at the entrance was warm and welcoming, and the front hall’s ambiance was nearly impeccable.
But now, as the deep winter was approaching, they actually arranged the main seats in the courtyard.
What if it snowed? How would they manage then?
The dishes might turn to ice before anyone got the chance to eat.
But when they arrived at the backyard, they realized their narrow-mindedness.
The Jiang family’s backyard was even warr than the front hall!
There were furnaces burning on all sides, charcoal stuffed inside every table, with a roasting pan in the middle filled with steaming fragrant tea and fruit.
Even the tables and chairs were warm to the touch.
The scent of the tea mixed with the sweet aroma of the fruit, penetrating the heart and spleen.
Having seen all sorts of restaurants and banquet setups, the big shots were srized by the novelty of dining around the furnace in the winter, snapping photos and showing them off on social dia.
And all credit for this went to Jiang Li.
In Daqi, she had watched her mother personally arrange everything like this.
With not enough space inside and the yard too cold, her ingenious and thoughtful mother instructed the servants to light more than a dozen furnaces and spread hundreds of warm stones across the ground.
She effectively made the courtyard even more cozy than indoors.
