"Heh!"

Ning Huaixiu laughed at herself, her salty tears slipping into her mouth, leaving a lasting bitterness in her heart.

Indeed, he had never considered her as anything of importance. In his eyes, she was as repulsive as mosquitoes and bugs. How could he stoop to issue her an order?

It was the Empress Dowager who gave the order. She had always been thinking about how to get closer to her man, yet she forgot about the Empress’s feelings. As his wife, she must have despised her to the extre, hating her for her shalessness and willingly degrading herself. Indeed, any woman would find her actions utterly repulsive and contemptible.

After all, they were a loving couple; what had it to do with her? Why did she insist on interfering and making them loathe and despise her? Now, looking back, her past behaviors seed incredibly foolish and worthless.

That’s right, she deserved to die, to pay for her own stupidity. However, she felt terribly sorry for her parents who gave birth to her and raised her. They had treasured her for eighteen years, and she hadn’t even begun to show them filial piety before she would end up dying because of her impulsiveness and foolishness. Not only had her parents not enjoyed any duty of care from her, but they would also be despised for her stupidity, and even more heartbroken by her death...

Thinking of this, her heart soured, and her tears flowed freely. She struggled to get up, her shaking hand taking the dicine bowl, and she looked up to speak to Huan Qiu, "Sister Huan Qiu, could you please deliver a ssage to my parents for Huaixiu?"

Huan Qiu asked coldly, "What ssage?"

Ning Huaixiu replied, "Please tell my parents that Huaixiu realizes her errors. In this lifeti, I have let them down. In the next life, I shall be a good daughter and won’t cause them any trouble..."

After speaking, she closed her eyes and gulped down the black powder soup in the bowl.

Having finished the dicine, she felt as if her last bit of strength had been drained away. Her arm drooped, the bowl dropped to the floor, and she collapsed, limp.

Huan Qiu frowned slightly and signaled a palace maid to co forward and unbutton Huaixiu’s clothes. The dying Ning Huaixiu opened her eyes, weakly asking, "What are you doing?"

Huan Qiu said, "By the Order of the Empress Dowager, to apply dicine on madam’s wounds and bandage them!"

Ning Huaixiu was shocked and her eyes widened, "Isn’t the Empress Dowager trying to kill ?"

Huan Qiu glanced at her coldly and said, "When did I ever say the Empress Dowager wanted to kill you?" Ning Huaixiu replied, "But, but, I offended The Emperor and the Empress Dowager, and also... coveted The Emperor, does the Empress Dowager not plan to kill ?"

"Hehe, madam, you think too highly of yourself!" Huan Qiu mocked rudely, "Whether in appearance or ability, you are not remotely close to the Empress. How could The Emperor possibly fancy you, and why would the Empress take you seriously? She has so many important matters to attend to every day. If she had to be troubled by such insignificant people, she would have nothing else to do!"

The pale face of Ning Huaixiu flushed montarily, but she did not get angry at Huan Qiu’s mockery. Instead, there was a hint of hope as she said, "Are you implying that the Empress Dowager isn’t angry with ? She’s not blaming ?"

Huan Qiu said with a cold smile, "The Empress Dowager is magnanimous. Why would she be angry over soone unworthy, over sothing insignificant? Rest assured, not only is Her Majesty not angry with you, she even plans to employ your services again once you’ve recovered from your injuries!"

While they spoke, the little palace maid had already undone Ning Huaixiu’s garnts. But upon revealing her neck, one could see a purple-green hue of a handprint starkly imprinted there, grueso and terrifying, making it clear that whoever had struck her had intended to kill.
