Chapter 1274: Chapter 1280 Xiang Yun’s Thoughts (4)
Last night was too dark; she couldn’t see his face, but she vaguely saw that he was very tall, with a slender and graceful physique, and that there was a faint and refreshing fragrance coming from him, which slled very good.
She liked it very much!
The hand wiping her tears was as gentle as the one from last night and had the sa hint of roughness, except it lacked that faint scent, almost indistinguishable from the night before.
Xiang Yun stopped crying, sniffled, and said, “Is it you? Have you co again?”
Suddenly, the hand caressing her face halted, becoming rigid on her cheek.
“What are you talking about?” A familiar voice rang above her head, completely waking her up. Xiang Yun’s eyes opened drowsily, and in a daze, she saw the outline of Mo Zili. She sat up abruptly, terrified, and scrambled to the corner of the kang, finally shouting at the newcor.
“You… How co you’re here? Who let you just walk into my room? Get out!” Xiang Yun panicked as she rembered that, when he left that morning, he had said he’d accompany her to stay here. She thought he was just speaking casually, not anticipating that he would really co.
The visitor was indeed Mo Zili, who, at this mont, was dressed in a dark blue plain brocade robe, looking extrely comfortable and casual.
“I am your husband; if I don’t co here, who will? Are you perhaps waiting for soone else?” Mo Zili’s eyes were sharp as he gazed at her, seemingly trying to read the answer off her face.
When he had arrived, he saw her restlessly sleeping on the kang, with her pitiable little face all scrunched up and crying in her sleep; it had pained him to see her like that. Yet, the mont he heard her say, “Is it you? Have you co again?” his heart sank to the bottom. Who was the ‘you’ she referred to? The tender tone in which she spoke those words told him intuitively that the ‘you’ must be a man.
A man, could it be that while she was living here alone, she had found another man?
The thought was too terrible. Just the possibility fueled a destructive impulse within him.
Although he was the one who had been unfaithful first, it was considered reasonable for a man to have a few won aside from his wife, but it was different for won. Conventional social norms imposed harsh expectations on won, not allowing even a hint of a blemish on them.
She was his wife, married to him openly and honorably, Mo Zili’s wife. If she were to fool around with another man behind his back, what would the people of the world think of him? Would he have any reputation left in this world? Besides, she had already conquered his heart unconsciously. To know that she had betrayed him emotionally, even setting aside the matter of reputation, he would not be able to accept it!
Xiang Yun’s expression flickered montarily, thankfully it was nightfall, and Mo Zili, not wanting to disturb her sleep, had ordered just a solitary candle to be lit far away in the room. Since the candlelight was dim and her fleeting expression was obscured, Mo Zili did not notice any flaws.
Xiang Yun jumped at Mo Zili’s words, recalling the sentence she had uttered half-asleep, and felt a sudden panic. The words she spoke were indeed suspicious, the kind any man would inquire about.
She wanted to go her separate ways from Mo Zili, but she was acutely aware of her current predicant; he would not let her go easily, and with Mo Zili’s character, if he found out she was thinking about another man or knew that another man had touched her, he would surely complete in the darkness what he had failed to do during the day.
Thus, for the sake of her little life, he must never find out about this.
“Do you really consider your wife? How did you treat this morning? Have you forgotten? Do you really expect to welco you?” Xiang Yun cried with a sense of injustice, making a ceaseless fuss.
