1014: Chapter 1016: The Enthronent of The Prince (1) 1014: Chapter 1016: The Enthronent of The Prince (1) Great Jin Nation, the twenty-ninth year of Saint Wu, July
In the bustling Capital, three major events occurred, causing citizens to rush about spreading the news.
At street corners and alleys and around the tables after als, what everyone discussed were these three matters.
The first event was the Emperor’s enfeoffnt of his legitimate son Nangong Yi as The Prince, relocating to the East Palace and temporarily acting as the regent for court politics.
The second event was the Khan of the ng leading his subjects to the capital to surrender, presenting the maps of Lingbei, tributes, and swearing eternal allegiance to Great Jin, pledging loyalty to Great Jin.
The third event was the opening of a ‘Yishan Hall’s dical Center’ in the Capital, offering free consultations and dicine to the poor who could not afford treatnt, winning a chorus of praises from the citizens…
These three events caused a strong reaction among the populace.
The first matter related to court politics; not many people dared to discuss it openly, but there were so bold enough to whisper behind closed doors.
It was said that the Emperor intended to abdicate in favor of The Prince, devoting himself to cultivating immortality because a few days ago, the Emperor had been visited by a real immortal, assisted by the immortal, and had a narrow escape from death.
He beca even more yearning to pursue the path of cultivating immortality.
Now, the Emperor neglected his duties to court politics, daily pressuring The Prince to ascend the throne, so that he could focus entirely on cultivation.
However, The Prince did not wish to ascend to the throne so early.
He wanted to live a few more years of leisure and ease.
Because of this, father and son argued ceaselessly every day, causing the entire Palace to be in unrest…
The second event was the heartwarming surrender of Lingbei.
Lingbei originally belonged to Great Jin but had been occupied by the ng slaves for more than a hundred years.
Now that it was recaptured, having the leader of the ng slaves co in person to surrender truly made the citizens of Great Jin stand tall and proud, invigorating public sentint.
What excited everyone even more was that the ng slaves brought a type of object called glass.
It was said that this glass was installed in windows as a replacent for paper, but it was much superior.
It wouldn’t tear in the wind, unaffected by water, and provided insulation.
Most importantly, it was transparent, more so than Goryeo paper, almost as if there was nothing separating the two sides.
Installed in windows, rooms were bright and lit up, with the Sun’s light not wasted at all, all of it shining into the rooms!
However, such a rare object could only be used by the Emperor, and the common people could only hear about it or, if lucky, get a brief look.
They dared not even dream of a day when they might use glass themselves!
The third event was a blessing for the impoverished commoners: the opening of the Yishan Hall’s dical Center allowed many destitute people to receive dical treatnt.
Due to poverty, many who fell ill had to endure without visiting a dical Center for treatnt.
And there were many who died because they couldn’t afford dical care.
The establishnt of the Yishan Hall’s dical Center was akin to Guanyin Bodhisattva coming to the world to save sentient beings, suddenly giving those sick and penniless commoners hope for life!
Of course, the master of Yishan Hall was not to be easily deceived; the managent was extrely strict.
The big shopkeeper was a young man nad Mo Liancheng.
Although Shopkeeper Mo was young, he was utterly impartial and just.
He could see at one glance who was genuinely poor and who was faking poverty to cheat the dispensary.
Those who attempted to deceive the dispensary were promptly sent to Ying Tianfu, where the Prefect ted out a flogging so harsh it nearly took their lives.
Since then, no one dared to defraud Yishan Hall again…
For a full half-month, the citizens discussed these three matters.
When two acquaintances t, they couldn’t get through three sentences without touching upon one of these events.
And the woman who was relevant to all three events was recently very busy.
Her Yishan Hall had opened, and so had her Pawn Shop.
Along with the earlier established Dim Sum Shop, Cloth House, Restaurant, Zhenbao Pavilion, Ginseng Vendor, and a total of nearly ten shops, managing them every day took a lot of her energy.
