Lin Huai Zhou walked into the hospital room and nodded at the doctor, "Thank you, I need an hour."
"No problem," the doctor replied promptly and securely closed the door of the room.
Among the three mbers of the Liu family, only two were watching Lin Huai Zhou, Liu Lipu was still out of it.
"Are you Liu Lipu’s wife?" Lin Huai Zhou asked the woman.
"Yes, yes..."
"Sit over there," Lin Huai Zhou pointed to the door, "Don’t go out, don’t interrupt."
Mrs. Liu hesitated for a mont but couldn’t hold back, "Young comrade, what are you here for?"
"You have no right to ask," Lin Huai Zhou replied firmly.
"You..." Mrs. Liu sneered, "Truly... a tiger falling to flatland being bullied by dogs."
It’s often said that if you want to know what parents in a family are like, just look at the children.
To have raised a son like Liu Danian, Mrs. Liu certainly played a major role.
She snarked as she took a chair to the door.
She’s been very annoyed lately. Ever since Liu Lipu had both legs amputated, so people ca to see him the first day, saying a lot of nonchalant things. After the second day, no one ca to see them again.
Mrs. Liu still harbors a ray of hope—Liu Lipu was injured going to a eting of the Red Star Team, shouldn’t this count as a work injury? The leaders surely wouldn’t just strip Liu Lipu of his post.
She thinks her Old Liu can return to the commune sooner or later.
Even if Old Liu can’t, then surely her son can!
So she doesn’t find this young man in front of her frightening at all.
Until she heard Lin Huai Zhou say:
"Now, due to reports from the people, a special investigation team has been set up to thoroughly investigate cris led by Liu Lipu and Liu Danian..."
"Considering Liu Lipu’s severe injuries, he will be temporarily detained at the hospital, Liu Danian and Wang Lijuan are to be arrested imdiately."
After reading the words from the docunt, Lin Huai Zhou directly took out a pair of silver handcuffs and walked towards Liu Danian.
Liu Danian was montarily stunned before suddenly lashing out, raising a hand to attack Lin Huai Zhou.
Lin Huai Zhou laughed, his expression much more animated than when he read the docunt, "You want to resist arrest?"
"Damn it, why are you arresting ? What cri did I commit? My dad is Liu Lipu!"
Liu Danian jumped and bounced on the bed, his mother hearing she was also on the arrest list, was already dazed beyond reason, not even daring to believe her ears as she sat there.
Lin Huai Zhou sneered, reaching out to spar with Liu Danian.
It wasn’t really sparring; it’s just that after Liu Lipu got beaten up by Su Yuncheng, he’s now experienced enough to know how to protect himself from getting a critical hit, without Lin Huai Zhou having to avoid him.
Five minutes later, Lin Huai Zhou opened the door and tossed the beaten and bruised Liu Danian to the Public Security officers who ca with him.
The officer was startled, "Commander Lin, what’s this?"
"Oh, he resisted arrest," Lin Huai Zhou said, "Rember to ntion to Yan Kuan."
"Yes."
Lin Huai Zhou took out another pair of handcuffs and turned to Wang Lijuan, "Extend your hand."
Wang Lijuan dumbly extended her hand.
It was only when the cold tal touched her skin that she seed to awaken and suddenly said to Lin Huai Zhou, "I don’t know, I really don’t know the things Old Liu did, I really don’t know!"
Lin Huai Zhou had deliberately asked her to stand by the door earlier to guard against this crying drama.
With a casual push, he locked her outside the door.
"If it gets too loud, gag her; don’t scare the people," Lin Huai Zhou thoughtfully reminded.
"Yes!"
The two Public Security officers left with the two individuals, only then did Lin Huai Zhou close the hospital room door and walk to Liu Lipu’s bedside, "Let’s start the interrogation."
Whether his son made a fuss or his wife cried, Liu Lipu showed no reaction, but now he moved.
He turned his head to look at Lin Huai Zhou, his voice trembling, "I’m already a cripple, can’t you, can’t you let go?"
Lin Huai Zhou’s eyes were icy, "Can the people who died of thirst and hunger because of you co back to life?"
Liu Lipu opened his mouth but said nothing.
Lin Huai Zhou asked several consecutive questions, but Liu Lipu showed no reaction.
So Lin Huai Zhou closed his work notebook and said, "It doesn’t matter if you don’t speak, soone will make you talk."
He decided to let the professional Yan Kuan handle this; he planned to verify the list, and if there were any evaders refusing arrest, it would be his turn to step up.
Lin Huai Zhou stood up, but Liu Lipu suddenly called out to him, "Kid, who are you with?"
Lin Huai Zhou looked at him and didn’t answer.
Liu Lipu said, "You and that Lin Nianhe have similar eyes, you must be her brother, right?"
Lin Huai Zhou nodded, "Yes."
"Who are you with?" Liu Lipu furrowed his brows and repeated.
"Beijing, the Lin Family."
Liu Lipu suddenly laughed, "Then I don’t die unjustly, to have the Lin Family handle ."
Lin Huai Zhou said, "You’re overthinking it, my parents are unaware."
Liu Lipu’s laughter abruptly stopped.
His face flushed a deep red, finally squeezing out a sentence, "If only I had known she was from the Lin Family sooner..."
He thought if he’d known earlier, he would have treated Lin Nianhe well, ensuring she couldn’t find fault at all.
"No, your downfall isn’t related to how you treated my sister," Lin Huai Zhou said, "What you did, everyone reviles."
Liu Lipu showed disdain, "You don’t an to say you’re doing this for justice, do you?"
In his view, no one could act entirely selflessly.
They are humans, not saints.
Lin Huai Zhou looked at him, feeling there was no need to reason with soone like this.
If it wasn’t for the fear of accidentally killing him, Lin Huai Zhou would have treated him the sa as Liu Danian.
Lin Huai Zhou said nothing, cuffed Liu Lipu’s hand to the hospital bed, and then turned to leave.
In his current state, escaping was impossible.
Walking out of the hospital room, he found the doctor who had shown him the way surprisingly waiting outside.
He held a notebook in his hand and approached Lin Huai Zhou as he ca out.
"Leader, I’ve been here for five years," the doctor handed the notebook to Lin Huai Zhou, "This is what I’ve learned of the evil deeds of Liu Lipu and Liu Danian... take a look."
Lin Huai Zhou took the notebook and casually flipped it open, seeing that the first page was indeed dated five years ago.
The text was a bit faded, a few places on the page showed tear stains, the edges were frayed from wear, likely having been opened countless tis.
The first entry detailed a girl’s ordeal, and the faded words resounded with thunderous anger.
He flipped through several pages; the record spanned large periods, so two to three months, others two or three entries in a single day.
The language gradually beca concise.
From initial anger to mid-stage bewildernt, and by the recent pages, only recorded nas, injuries, and one or two sentences explaining the cause.
Lin Huai Zhou flipped through the notebook, seeing in the lines a burning heart slowly turning cold.
