Chapter 593: Chapter 592: It Seems I Understand

“Crabs? I don’t need to guess to know, it must be Nianhe who asked you to bring them over, right?”

At Sun Bo’s doorstep, he teased Su Yuncheng while holding a crab basket.

“Yeah, Nianhe bought them,” Su Yuncheng said, “She was worried about affecting your family reunion, so she waited for to co back to deliver them.”

“This girl…” Sun Bo chuckled and shook his head, then stepped aside and said, “Have you two cooked yet? Why not co over for a al?”

“No, Nianhe has made food.”

“Tsks tsks,” Sun Bo pursed his lips, “Showing off to you.”

Su Yuncheng was unconcerned: “You’re busy, I should go back and help her.”

“Go on then, go on. In a little while I’ll call Minister Lin to report, tell him you bully Nianhe into doing chores.”

Su Yuncheng glanced back at him, wondering whether he should take the crabs back with him.

Sun Bo let out a “hey,” quickly pulled back a step with the crabs, and closed the door behind him.

Su Yuncheng chuckled and went back to his place, just as he had taken off his clothes and was about to enter the kitchen, Lin Nianhe said, “Brother Yuncheng, my dad called for you, asking you to call him back when you return.”

“Okay.” Su Yuncheng had to stop in his tracks, and couldn’t help saying as he dialed the number, “Leave it, I’ll do it.”

“Okay.”

Lin Nianhe responded quickly, yet her hands didn’t stop.

“Hello, this is Lin Binghui.”

“Minister Lin, this is Su Yuncheng.”

“…”

Mr. Lin was silent for a while, as if trying hard to suppress his anger.

After a long mont, he asked, “How goes the investigation?”

“Not too smoothly,” Su Yuncheng replied truthfully, “Visited three families today, two of whom have passed away, the one that’s alive is ntally unstable and doesn’t recognize anyone.”

“Sigh…” Mr. Lin let out a long sigh, and after a mont said, “In that case, the two of them can’t be declared dead yet, their testimonies are still key, one sentence could clear soone’s na.”

“I understand,” Su Yuncheng said, “The interrogation on them hasn’t stopped.”

“Um, get on with it as quickly as you can,” Mr. Lin’s voice lowered, “The longer the night, the more dreams may co.”

“Um.”

“Su Yuncheng.”

“Here.”

“If you dare do sothing you shouldn’t, I’ll smash you to pieces!”

Mr. Lin’s tone shifted suddenly, and Su Yuncheng held the phone sowhat baffled.

He asked instinctively, “Do what I shouldn’t?”

Mr. Lin: “Don’t play dumb with !”

Su Yuncheng: “…?”

He wasn’t playing dumb, he truly wasn’t.

Of course, Mr. Lin wouldn’t believe it, and after threatening for five hundred characters, he hung up the phone.

In those few minutes, Su Yuncheng thought over everything he had done in the past twenty-three years of his life.

None of it was worth getting shot for.

Until Lin Nianhe ca out of the kitchen with a plate of crabs.

Su Yuncheng: “…”

He seed to have figured it out.

“Brother Yuncheng?” Lin Nianhe looked at him puzzled, “What’s wrong with you? Are you sick?”

“No, I’m fine.”

“But your face is so red.”

“I’m really fine.”

“But you look like you’ve been stead too.”

“Don’t, don’t co over, I’m really fine.”

Lin Nianhe thought Su Yuncheng was very strange today, just like Old Lin…

She seed to know why his face was flushed.

Lin Nianhe blinked and turned around, scurrying back into the kitchen.

Flirting is one thing, fooling around is another—jokes shouldn’t be made when a man is hot-blooded.

Lin Nianhe dawdled in the kitchen until Su Yuncheng had composed himself and ca to look for her before she dared to face him directly.

Because there were crabs, Lin Nianhe made a few matching dishes and a warm beef soup,

“How did things go?” Su Yuncheng peeled the hard shell of the crab and presented it before Lin Nianhe.

“Pretty smoothly,” Lin Nianhe said, “I had a cordial and friendly conversation with Factory Director Tian, and we reached a mutually beneficial cooperation.”

Su Yuncheng: “…”

It felt like things were not as simple as she made them sound.

“I might be a bit busy during this period,” Lin Nianhe looked up at him, “Ten Miles Team is going to build a factory, and I’m afraid I won’t be able to co over often.”

“Alright, I’ll co to see you when I have ti,” Su Yuncheng said, “Call if you need to do anything.”

“Mhm, there is indeed sothing— I scattered so flower seeds at the front door, water them when you have ti, and take good care of the jasmine plant.”

“Okay.”

Su Yuncheng wanted to drive Lin Nianhe back that night, but she shook her head and declined: “You’d spend two hours driving back, then another two hours to return and you have work tomorrow. Don’t you care about your health?”

“It’s too late, it’s not safe.”

“Fourth Sie will co pick up, and I’ve bought a soft sleeper ticket. The train conductor knows , so don’t worry.”

Su Yuncheng was still worried. He saw Lin Nianhe onto the train, checked around, and repeated his instructions to the train attendant. When the train was about to depart, he was finally shooed off by Lin Nianhe.

“Rember to call when you arrive,” Su Yuncheng instructed below the train window, “No matter how late, definitely give a call.”

“Okay, I rember, you should head back now,” Lin Nianhe smiled and waved at him, “I left so things at the house for you, take your ti finding them.”

Su Yuncheng was montarily stunned, not imdiately recalling what she could have left at ho.

As the train moved away, Su Yuncheng returned ho and noticed her little leather shoes placed next to his army boots on the shoe rack, and her white slippers next to his; the cupboard contained two extra boxes of biscuits and milk powder with a note saying “Eat well” and a smiley face drawn on it.

Back in the bedroom, a new photo was slotted under the glass on his desk—a photo of her, likely taken by Sie Yufei at Ten Miles Team.

Su Yuncheng couldn’t help but smile, his fingertips gently touching her cheek through the glass, feeling cool.

“After this mission, I’ll accompany you to study.”

He whispered softly.

Lin Nianhe was almost getting used to the noise and rocking of the green-skin train. She lay down in her bunk, fell asleep, and woke up to find they had arrived at the station.

“Xiao He! Xiao He!”

Sie Yufei was running alongside the train, still waving at her nonstop.

Lin Nianhe yawned, grabbed a bunch of snacks Su Yuncheng had bought her and passed them out the window, then carried her small suitcase off the train.

Apart from Sie Yufei, Li Dahe had also co to pick her up.

As soon as he saw her alight from the train, Li Dahe ca forward and handed her two warm eggs from his pocket: “Here, they’re warm.”

“Thank you, Uncle Team Leader,” Lin Nianhe said with a smile, taking them, “What brings you here?”

“What, you find an eyesore?”

“Of course not, I was just worried you didn’t get enough sleep,” Lin Nianhe chuckled, handing Sie Yufei her suitcase, and followed Li Dahe while peeling an egg.

“Shui originally said to have you stay at her sister-in-law’s tonight, but I figured you’d feel uncomfortable at soone else’s place,” Li Dahe said, “Let’s go, head ho.”

They had co on two bicycles, and on the way back, Sie Yufei gave Li Dahe a ride while Lin Nianhe rode the other bike.

It was midnight, the road was deserted, lit only by the moonlight illuminating their way ho.

“Girl, how did the talk go? They didn’t give you a hard ti, did they?”

“Of course not, the negotiation was very friendly.”

Li Dahe: “What did you do to the factory director?”

Lin Nianhe: “…”
