Minghao ate her breakfast chanically, her sharp mind working through the puzzle piece by piece. Her parents had left suddenly without proper goodbyes. Twilight was being deliberately evasive. Nanny Yun was hiding sothing.

Sothing had happened, sothing related to whatever her mother had been involved in that night she ca ho covered in what definitely hadn’t been paint.

But Minghao was intelligent enough to know when to stop pushing. So answers would only co with ti. And so secrets were kept for good reasons, to protect rather than deceive.

She caught Twilight’s eye across the counter and saw a flicker of understanding there, a silent acknowledgnt that yes, there was more to the story, but no, now wasn’t the ti to discuss it.

"Okay," Minghao said finally, returning her attention to her breakfast. "Thank you for taking care of us, Twilight."

"Of course," Twilight replied warmly. "That’s what family does." And it was for her momma, she didn’t mind being the older sibling.

The conversation shifted to lighter topics, Qin Xinyu’s enthusiasm about an upcoming school project, Qing Qing’s questions about when she could start attending classes, and Nanny Yun’s gentle fussing over whether everyone had eaten enough.

By 7:30 AM, Minghao and Qin Xinyu were ready to leave. They grabbed their school bags, said goodbye to Qing Qing and Nanny Yun, and followed Twilight out to the waiting vehicle where additional security personnel were stationed discreetly around the property.

The drive to school was quiet but comfortable. Twilight navigated the morning traffic with casual competence, occasionally glancing in the rearview mirror at the two students in the back seat.

After a while, Minghao broke the silence. "Twilight, my mother trusts you a lot, doesn’t she?" Yes, it’s not sothing hidden; they have seen it, their mother loved and trusted Twilight more than anyone else... Her actions were visible and open.

Twilight’s eyes t Minghao’s in the mirror, steady and honest. "Yes. She does."

"Because you’re family," Minghao continued, as if working through a puzzle aloud. "Not by blood, but by choice."

"Exactly," Twilight confird, a small smile touching her lips. "Sotis the family we choose is just as important as the family we’re born into, or probably better than a family that’s blood related."

"Like and Qin Xinyu and Qing Qing," Minghao said softly, understanding dawning.

"Exactly like that," Twilight agreed. "You’re building your own family, your own bonds. That’s sothing to protect and cherish." Twilight actually didn’t understand why she was asking that but she honestly gave her response.

Soon, they arrived at the prestigious academy, joining the procession of luxury vehicles dropping off students for another day of classes.

Twilight pulled up to the entrance and turned to face them, her expression warm but serious.

"Have a good day at school. Study hard. Be kind to each other. I’ll be here at 3:30 to pick you up."

"Thank you, Twilight," they both said in unison, gathering their bags.

As they walked toward the school entrance, Minghao glanced back once. Twilight was still watching them, her expression protective and alert.

Around the school periter, Minghao recognized several security guards from ho, positioned discreetly but unmistakably present.

Whatever was happening with her parents, whatever secrets they were keeping, at least she knew they cared enough to ensure she and the others were safe and protected. That would have to be enough for now.

They went to their various classes while Twilight drove back to the mansion.

Ocean Villa - 9:00 AM

Morning sunlight flooded through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the master bedroom, transforming the rumpled white sheets into pools of liquid gold.

Beyond the glass, the ocean sparkled brilliantly, each wave catching the light as it rolled toward the private beach in an endless, hypnotic rhythm.

Tang Fei stirred first, consciousness returning slowly and pleasantly like a gentle tide. She was warm, comfortable, cocooned in expensive sheets and strong arms. Her body ached with a soreness that was both uncomfortable and oddly satisfying, a visceral reminder of the previous night’s passionate intensity.

Several sensations registered simultaneously: the steady rise and fall of the chest beneath her cheek, the arm wrapped securely around her waist, the leg tangled intimately with hers, and the unmistakable feeling of being thoroughly, completely claid in every possible way.

Her eyes fluttered open to find herself staring at Huo Ting Cheng’s chest, her head resting directly over his heart where she could hear its steady, reassuring rhythm.

Carefully, trying not to disturb his sleep, she tilted her head back to study his face. He was still deeply asleep, his features relaxed in a way they rarely were during waking hours. The sharp, intimidating angles of his face were softened by sleep, his usually stern mouth slightly parted, his breathing deep and even. His dark hair was thoroughly mussed, falling across his forehead in a way that made him look younger, less formidable, almost vulnerable.

He looked peaceful, content, and Human enough rather than the powerful, dangerous man the world knew.

Tang Fei felt sothing warm and complicated bloom in her chest as she observed him, this man who had possessed her so thoroughly throughout the night, who had pushed her past every limit she thought she had, who had then cared for her with such unexpected tenderness in the aftermath. He was a walking contradiction she was only beginning to understand.

As if sensing her gaze through so sixth sense, his breathing pattern changed slightly. His arm tightened around her waist, pulling her increntally closer, and his eyes slowly opened to et hers.

For a long mont, they simply looked at each other in the golden morning light, neither speaking, both caught in that liminal space between sleep and full wakefulness where everything feels surreal and deeply intimate.

"Good morning," he finally murmured, his voice rough and wonderfully deep with sleep, the vibration resonating through her body where she was pressed against him.

"Good morning," she replied softly, suddenly feeling unexpectedly shy despite everything they’d done together in the darkness.
