Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Money God (Seeking Subscriptions and Monthly Tickets)_1

Due to the recent bowl-kicking incident, Qian Yixiu started reconsidering Monkey Brother’s accommodation issue. Originally, she had intended to use a large straw basket with so hay inside for its nest and have it stay with Dashan in the partially damaged side room. This arrangent was already akin to a luxury mansion compared to its previous living environnt in the mountains. But now it seed unfeasible, for if it noticed any differential treatnt in lodging compared to humans, it would surely create a fuss again.

After so thought, Qian Yixiu went into the cabinet in the left side room and took out a small cotton-padded jacket from the original owner, spreading it in the basket. Then, while the family was engrossed in the “monkey show,” she sneaked into Lady Wu’s bedroom, found the fine blue cloth from the Zhang family, and secretly cut a piece to use as bedding for the little monkey.

The thought that Lady Wu might spank her own little butt if she knew such wasteful actions crossed her mind. While cutting the cloth, she felt her little butt twitching in anticipated pain.

There was no other way; the ancestor had to be appeased first. Once it fully recognized its master, she would teach it the rules step by step. She still needed to take it into the mountain to “pluck treasures from the nest” and acquire things she had never dared dream of before. It was the Money God of their household.

Later, she would ask Grandpa to weave a small straw mat for it.

Qian Yixiu also sought the opinions of Cheng Yue and Qian Yijin about having the little monkey sleep in the sa room with them. Cheng Yue eagerly nodded; she too liked the little monkey. As for Qian Yijin, there was even no need to ntion—he was extrely excited to know the little monkey would sleep in the sa room as him.

Afterward, Qian Yixiu and her little aunt gave the little monkey a bath, dried its fur with a towel, and used a small comb to make its red fur fluffy and loose.

Qian Yixiu clicked her tongue in praise, “Ay, after a little grooming, Monkey Brother really looks handso.”

Monkey Brother felt so pleased that it scratched its ears and cheeks.

Its adorable antics made Qian Manxia laugh joyfully.

Qian Yijin saw that the Little Monk was extrely “knowledgeable,” and to his surprise, could recognize all the characters in the books. Not only were the “stories” he told very engaging, but his explanations of the books were also spot-on, sotis even better than Mr. Zhang’s. As this thought flashed through his mind, he imdiately felt ashad of his “disrespectful” attitude towards his teacher and hurriedly dispelled the thought.

But it was an undeniable fact that the Little Monk was learned.

He kept asking the monk questions about the book, eager to beco accomplished quickly so that he could protect his mother and sister from being bullied and make life better for his grandparents and aunt.

Lady Wu was pleased to see this, so she let him stay with the little guest in the main room for the night.

Upon hearing her son was going to sleep separately from her tonight, Cheng Yue was reluctant. She confessed to her son with sincere emotion, “Jinwa, Mom can’t be without you.”

Qian Yijin persuaded her, “Son is not playing around but learning more from the little master. Son will just not accompany Mom and Sister for tonight. Don’t be afraid, Mom; son can hear any noises from your room, and no bad people will get in.”

Before going to sleep, Qian Yixiu locked all the pastries and candy in the cabinet. She also quietly instructed Lady Wu to close the kitchen window firmly and lock the door. The Fierce Red Monkey had a keen sense of sll; if the food wasn’t locked away, it could follow the scent and would be capable of stealing all the treats.

Monkey Brother’s little bed—the straw basket—was placed in front of the big bed where Qian Yixiu and the others slept. The little monkey was reluctant to sleep in its “little bed” and jumped onto the big bed, wanting to sleep with Qian Yixiu.

Although Cheng Yue liked Monkey Brother, she didn’t fancy it getting too close. Seeing it jump onto the bed, she was so frightened that she sat up and didn’t dare to lie down.

Qian Yixiu had no choice but to open a drawer, take out a piece of candy, and pop it into Monkey Brother’s mouth. Monkey Brother had a sweet tooth and felt one piece wasn’t enough—it wanted more.

Qian Yixiu refused, “You can’t eat too much sugar at night, it’s bad for the teeth and could lead to worms.”

Monkey Brother beca unhappy upon Qian Yixiu’s refusal. With one hand hanging on the lock nose, he prevented Qian Yixiu from locking up, trying to forcefully snatch with the other.

Qian Yixiu scolded, “Little Monk is still in the main hall, and if you don’t follow the rules, we will no longer want you here. You might as well go back to the temple with him, and then let them send you back to the deep mountains.”

At the sound of that, Monkey Brother deflated, angrily hopping to the ground. After rustling around in the grass basket for a while, it quickly fell into a deep slumber.

However, Qian Yixiu remained wide awake for a long ti, this ti due to excitent.

With Monkey Brother around, so plans could be brought forward. Once Monkey Brother grew bigger, the family’s combat power would surely increase significantly. But the monkey was mischievous and fierce, and there was still a need to find a way to properly ta it.

Early the next morning, everyone except the two sick mbers rose early from bed. Qian Yeejin resud squatting and practicing his punches, and the Little Monk joined in, occasionally correcting their forms.

Qian Yixiu sensed there was sothing extraordinary about the Little Monk. A year younger than them, not only was his learning excellent, but his martial arts seed professionally trained as well.

Luckily, the presence of Monkey Brother regularly attracted him to co and tutor Little Brother. Later on, so tasty vegetarian snacks would ensure his more frequent visits.

Qian Yixiu washed Monkey Brother’s face, which was caked with eye boogers, and even though it was impatient, she rinsed its mouth. She then rubbed the tuft of white hair on the back of its neck, and after a while, Monkey Brother began to hum, complacently letting her fuss over it.

For breakfast, the family had a vegetarian al—a steaming pot of plump white buns, cornal porridge, a dish of crispy fried peanuts, and a dish of pickles. This was the first ti Qian’s third wife made white flour buns and the best breakfast they had ever had.

The Little monkey also joined at the table, with peanuts being its favorite. After eating two, it moved the dish in front of itself, glaring at anyone who dared to take so, its rich expressions amusing everyone.

Today was the tenth of June, and Qian Yeejin happened to have a day off. After breakfast, he went with Lady Wu to see off Monk Hongji back to Daci Temple on Xiding Mountain.

Monkey Brother tearfully bade farewell to his forr master and, seeing the Little Monk disappear from view, ran to his new master to ingratiate himself. Wherever Qian Yixiu went, it followed closely, its clueless expression evoking pity. Qian Yixiu used the opportunity to bond with it further while training it. Whenever it got impatient, she would rub the tuft of white hair on the back of its neck.

All monkeys love peaches, so once it was familiar with its new ho, it took the opportunity to scurry up the peach tree when Qian Yixiu wasn’t looking. The tree had many green peaches tinged with red, but though they were fragrant like peaches, they were inedible—sour and astringent. It excitedly picked a small peach to nibble on, but to its disappointnt, it tasted nothing like it had imagined. The sour taste made it spit it out imdiately and throw away the peach as it scampered down the tree.

It climbed into Qian Yixiu’s arms, whimpering, blaming her for not warning it in ti.

Qian Sangui laughed heartily, “This monkey is more endearing than a child.”

This was the first ti Qian Yixiu heard her grandfather laugh so heartily. Before his injury, her grandfather must have been a bold and carefree man with a generous spirit.

Qian Yixiu chuckled, “Monkey Brother doesn’t just endear itself; it also annoys. Once it gets used to the house, it’ll start making mischief.”

At noon, Lady Wu and young friend Qian Yijin returned ho in high spirits. It turned out that the Little Monk was highly esteed, actually the junior brother of Master Hong Yuan, the host of Daci Temple.
