Scarlet was sorting her laundry into two piles. one heavy clothes which would be used in the winter season and others her grim reaper outfits, those that she thought were no longer in style. Not that being a stylish grim reaper mattered anyway.

It was a simple task, quite mundane and not the kind of thing she would be doing on a normal day but it was a boring task which helped her think and lately, she had many thoughts on her mind. At the top of the list was Esong’s continued absentia.

It had been three months and he was still not ho. Despite the reassurances from the underworld deities, she was not as settled as she wished to be. After so much running around, Wisdom was the one who let the secret about Esong and Nyx’s rger spill.

Everyday that ended without his return, she worried about the failure of the process. If her opinion had been considered before the process was started, she would have told them to let things be because the failure of the rger was death. He would simply vanish away like smoke and cease to exist.

She sighed and picked up one of the yellow ducks which she had lined up on the washing machine. For no reason, she squeezed it, and it complained, loudly. The noise woke up the white cat whose favorite sleeping corner in the house was the laundry room. It teleported out of the room.

Severus teleported in with the other hounds just as the cat’s tail disappeared.

"Are you going to shoot the ducks again?" he asked.

Scarlet placed the small yellow duck back down, ensuring that it was in a perfect line with the others.

"I am just getting them in a row." She answered in monotone.

The hounds looked at each other and most of them teleported out of the room, leaving behind Severus and Blaze.

They didn’t want to stick around to watch her shoot the rubber ducks with her green fla which she had trained to be so precise and form different shapes, like that of a bullet. It didn’t just form shapes now, it ford solid tangible items now that Scarlet could control at will. The fla was still evolving, the more that she trained.

"Shooting ducks will not make him co ho any sooner." Blaze told her.

She pointed a pinky finger at the ducks and sliced through them with a green laser like beam. Then, she flung away what remained of them with her ntal strength and started lining up a new set of toy rubber ducks to kill.

Severus had asked her many tis why ducks, and she had no answer. Slicing or shooting up stuffed animals would be worse.

"Who says that I am thinking of him?" she denied.

Blaze looked at the wasted rubber ducks on the floor and he said, "You are shooting ducks again and you said that he reminds you of a duck. Far be it for to jump to the conclusion that you shoot rubber ducks when you think of him."

Scarlet teleported out of the laundry room and opened the font door to her house.

"Hello brother." she greeted.

Adler was standing outside on her porch. He had yet to ring any bell, knock or wave to one of the many caras outside the house.

"Every ti!" he exclaid in wonder. ’How do you keep showing up at the right ti?"

She let him in with a dry smirk on her face and said. "The house tells ."

"Houses don’t talk." he told her.

"Houses that are controlled by AI brains do." She told him.

He took off his shoes and sat down in the chair which was closest to her now favorite sitting spot, a big self rocking chair.

He looked up at one of the caras in the living room and said in a commanding voice. "Alex, turn on the tv and tell the maids to bring so food and passion fruit juice." He sniffed the air and looked at her worriedly. ’I sll burning rubber. Have you been shooting or burning rubber ducks again?"

He had seen her doing it once and she hypnotized him into thinking that he had seen a weapon in her hands instead of the green fla.

"It’s a sport." she answered.

Adler sighed and searched Scarlet’s face for anything that stoniness. He couldn’t see anything, not in her eyes or her lips. She had been like this for almost two months, emotionless like a robot.

You couldn’t even get her to fake a smile no matter how much you tried. She had been living in wine country, keeping a distance from the rest of the family as much as she could. Luckily, Justin had chosen to stay at school with Gregor so he didn’t see like this.

This had all started after the cha warriors who went out with Esong returned without him. Everyone was worried of course. It was said that he was off on so kind of solo mission but without much information, everyone was worried. Search parties had been dispatched by the emperor and their family but no word so far of his discovery had been heard.

"You only took it on when the cha warriors returned without your husband." He stood up and walked over to her. He squatted down and took both of her hands in his and said in a gentle voice. "Scarlet, it’s . You can talk to and tell anything that is on your mind.

I am not like our mother that will begin crying or Carolyn who will tell you to keep your mind occupied with work. I am also not our father. I will not try to stuff the empty hole in your heart with too much affection or kindness.

I am Adler, your rock. I will simply sit here, listen and take you to an underground fight where I will sit back and watch you break the arms of so poor bloke who underestimates your strength."

She raised her eyebrows and asked, "Aren’t you tired of doing this everyday?"

He shook his head and replied, "Never."

It was his thing now. Every single day since she moved out here permanently, he would co by for lunch. He would sit with her and ask her to have so kind of big blow out to express her anger or worry for Esong.

Everyday, she would stare at him blankly or roll her eyes and deny him the reaction she wanted. He had tried to move in but she turned him down.

He was not the only one who made that offer. All of the mbers of her family had made that offer separately and she turned them all down.

Of course, if she had known that they would visit every single day, she would have just let them move in. Usually after Adler left, Dorian would show up, at night Elroy would drop by. In the mornings it was always her mother and Fey. Carolyn bought the two houses on her left and right side. Every other week when she was on the Blue star, she would sleep next door.

It was safe to say that they made sure she was not alone often and felt their support as much as possible.

"I guess it’s food and a book as usual." Adler said with a sigh. "Why did you refuse to go for the ancestral honoring ceremony in the capital?" he asked her.
